I reccomend making a 30mm version but with a longer body and larger casing fired from your howitzer because then you can get a faster moving projectile and have to worry less about CG and more about air resistance. Then as long as the weight is centred around the "head" of the projectile, you don't have to worry if its moving fast enough
To be fair, there's videos about homemade "napalm" here on YT. The recipes usually use Styrofoam and either nail polish or gasoline (gas seems to work better in the end result, if you're curious...)
You might want to consider having the front of the find be further clockwise than the back, to create a diagonal wings and allow for a (theoretically) clockwise rotation through the air
Stability requires velocity, charge balance and proper fin design. The velocity, if high enough, would impart a slight spin when the fins are deployed and assuming the fins are designed properly to impart a stabilizing spin at speed. Lastly is the weight of the projectile itself to allow a flat trajectory prior to fin deployment while attaining terminal velocity.
Cool video! I commented fixes to problems halfway through watching but realized you had already implemented them by the end. I appreciate and applaud your ability to test different iterations of an object in such an effective manner. Looking forwards to the next video :D
Dude, I've never clicked a video so fast, haha. Your channel has quickly become my most favorite on youtube and most anticipated watch for new content!
Maybe some kind of base bleed system might help the projectile? A Co2 canister punctured with the right timing might also be more than enough pressure to give sufficient propulsion.
the classic struggle of 3d printing, layer adhesion have you considered printing it flat - the same orientation it sits onto your wrist and/or adding some kind of rubber blast cap behind the shell casing?
Finally came from school, and I can confirm this channel teaches better than school (I might have been there right after release but my friends are slow)

basic aerodynamics! stability is based on the distance between the center of gravity and the center of friction. If the CG is far forward and the CF far back, it'll be maximally stable. Those fins push the CF back a good ways but they also bring the CG back, and the bumpy surface of the filament print adds a lot of friction all over, diminishing the fins effects on the CF. For a good rule of thumb though, just keep the projectile nose-heavy and you should be gold
There are Airsoft gas powered 40s...you could combine the gas holding back end of one of those with your printed projectile. Or just wodge the projectile down the barrel in front of the gas shell, I launch rubber balls and all sorts out of mine like that for funsies!
You should reprint the wrist launcher with the layers going perpendicular to the lateral forces of the recoil. This way it goes against it and is stronger. Or you could reprint it with thicker walls :o
Hi, I would recommend looking into homemade model rocket engines as starting point. There is some precedence for adding a delay between launch and ignition to protect the operator and equipment. Perhaps a small rf module with a MOSFET and capacitor connected to the igniting wires.
I am obsessively curious to see if the energy a system like this has is enough to make a self-loading action where the energy of one shell cycles and feeds the next one. Gonna see if I can do some research myself, too bad hydroxy gas doesn’t seal easily and the hydrogen leaks out of everything
Instead of using black filament for intricate components such as the fins, how about using glitter filaments? I feel that the light glinting off the various sides shows off intricate fdm designs better.

Hey, am i ok to make my own designs based on your mechanisms for detonation and propulsion? Or do i gotta do some legal/credit stuff?
as a weaponry officer of OTO Melara 76mm this is epic. I believe with long barrel the projectile can go more strait than short barrel. Try it out
@@MIKE_WOLF_GR he tried the long barrel las episode but the suction of the HHO gas turning back into water pulls the projectile back in

honestly this chanel is wayyyy to underrated despite how awsome this and the other things are.
Using a section of cut filament for the rods is genius! I hadn't thought of that at all in my models. Plus we all already know the diameter.
You need to have the fins surface angled or varying thickness so that the projectile starts spinning for stability.
