    Aug 23, 2023 Vitamin D was 56 ng/ml I was 74 years old then now 75. So far no colds, flu covid and I don't do flu covid, Pneumococcal shots. Yesterday when walking my daily mile a fellow senior I hadn't seen for a while told me he and his wife had a bout of covid. He'd been jabbed 3 times and still got the bug.

    My wife and I are 70. We appreciate your channel. I've been somewhat athletic since my youth, and stuck with resistance training throughout my life, albeit a few breaks. I have bad 3 region progressive spinal arthritis with subluxations & severe crippling bilateral sciatica & osteoarthritis. I still lift but only moderately heavy concentration on rep progression. Incredibly I feel much better when working out. I can even leg press being careful not to roll my lower back. While I go to the gym, I'm fortunate in having my own well stocked gym. Another MRI next week to check progression. I miss being able to take a long fast walk, hills, slopes, etc. I get cardio by doing a 20 minute round robin with my free weights & machines; no rest. My wife is outdoorsy. She has to take care of all the landscaping and despite losing her entire inner right thigh from the pelvis to the knee from cancer she can run 30 yr olds in the ground. I've been taking 5000IU for YEARS now. I have my level checked annually and it's always normal (was 51 this last time). I live in Michigan and am 54.
    A very common mistake is that some people only take the supplement during the colder months when they feel they are not outdoors enough. The vitamin D supplement or the form produced in your skin by UVB is cholecaciferol.
    This may be stored in fat cells or converted by the liver into calcifidiol, the storage form which is what is measured in the vit D assay.
    This can be converted by the kidney into the active form calcitriol. Many other cells can also make this conversion as required.
    The fastest way to increase your level if required is to take calcifidiol.
    If you have an inoculation or an infection this can severely deplete your levels of vitamin D.
    Taking calcifidiol is the fastest way to increase your levels back up.

    Yes your doctor can do a differential Vitamin D test and it will report what Vitamin D analogs it finds in the blood. This allows them to tell if your Vitamin D level is from food and sunlight or supplement form. The key though to taking high levels of Vitamin D and not having toxicity and having a great outcome lies in Vitamin K supplementation and vitamin K intake from food. That and not supplementing with Calcium if taking Vitamin D unless you have active osteoperosis. Vitamin D 3 increases calcium absorbition by 20,000X so you have to approach the combination of D3 and Calcium with caution and make sure you include lots of Vitamin K and Magnessium and Boron to keep things optimal and balanced so that the calcium ends up in your bones and not in soft tissues and your blood! If you want to push levels up to the point that they can actual heal and reverse dissease states you have to do a lot of research. Sadly the best research on Vitamin D is 1950's and previous. Just like Iodine research 1950's and latter is absolutely criminal and backwards to reality. Similar can be said for sodium and colesterol being absolutely criminal and backwards you can likewise make a case for all research 1980's and latter on Boron being backwards and criminal. A lot of the best research has not been made available digitaly so you have to have access to old journals, research and medical texts that are out of print and only avialbe in paper formats and often not in English either!

      I studied with an ‘ahead of his time’ genius some years ago, and he talked about how sulfur was necessary for the processing of vitamin D… If you live in a highly polluted area, have toxic mercury dental amalgams or eat a lot of tuna, mercury can bind the sulfur, which is necessary for utilization of D. I recall him saying that sulfur was the third most important mineral in the body.
      Maybe your Microbiome is also lacking. Even vitamin supplements need to be fermented in the gut for availability to your cells.

    ?**? Question: If Vit D Absorption is OK, does that imply absorption of other Fat Soluble Vits (E,A,K) is likely good too? Vit D was OK last year, but considering getting the Test for the others (which will automatically include re-test of Vit D) however, the '4 Vit Test' is expensive, so thinking maybe just Test Vit D again, hopefully as an indicator of all at Fat Soluble Vits?

    If anyone might know .. Whenever I take any Vitamin D3, even very small amounts such as the 200 iu's that are in a cod liver oil, for the next few days I have quite scary skipped and extra heartbeats. I especially notice it while I lie down to sleep at night and it is scary enough that I am too concerned to keep supplementing even though my Lab Levels are at the bottom of the scale in the 20's. How can I fix this?

    I've been on Carnivore for almost a year, so my body is constantly shuttling fat around from the OMAD meals I eat. Would I need to take vitamin D with a fatty meal or might I have enough circulating in my body that I can just take it with water?

    I have a couple full spectrum grow lights. Could I use these to help get some Vit D? It would be easy for me to lay under one for a bit during the winter months.

    • @corym.johnson7241
      @corym.johnson7241 Před 6 měsíci

      Depends, what you mean by full spectrum. As in it mimics the same spectrum the sun gives off or the optimal spectrum for plants? Which will be similar to the suns spectrum but different for example consider plants that exist on the floor in jungles versus up in the canopies of the jungle. They require totally different spectrums.
      Check with the manufacturer of that product to find out the spectrum of that light. If nothing else it may very well be an alternative in the winter months but is never going to be a replacement for the sun.

    What is the best way to get vit D levels tested in the UK? If I get it done with my GP is the result likely to be reliable? Any potential pitfalls to be avoided?

    • @paulcampbell840
      @paulcampbell840 Před 6 měsíci

      You can buy a test kit from a pharmacy, or health food store, or, as you say, blood work from the GP may be available if you don't want to fund your own healthcare. I understand it was the case that doctors would not test for vitamin D levels in the UK because EVERYONE was deficient. Remember, we live further north than most Canadians - to give it a transatlantic perspective. Only in summer, can we produce some of our own vit D from sunlight. Supplementation in winter is essential, and even in summer, most people working indoors, or covering up outdoors will still be deficient. I do find that with the higher level of supplementation I now take, I do tend to tan more easily if I do catch a bit of sun. The body probably indicating that it already has adequate vit D.
