Way to go Matt. You killed it! As the word gets out more and more people are realizing how right you are. It's great to see the growth in the hunt quietly movement.
God damn he hit the nail on the head. I felt this and knew it intuitively but he explained it way better than I ever could. I'm amazed they even let him speak.
Thank you Matt!! The primary focus MUST be ACCESS. The inevitability of "pay to play" is only expedited by R3. Follow the money and you will see R3 is only about saving hunting for those with their own land or sell goods for hunting. Hunting benefits poor and marginalized groups the most, and they're the ones who will be left out.
I listened to the entire presentation and a few podcasts you have been on. I am 95% with you. I have also wanted to start a channel, a better one than a lot out there but couldn't really justify it. Something stopped me but I didn't know why. You articulated many things I have thought, but didn't put into words. Peace!
Thanks Matt for the insight into this industry. Makes one think about if certain hunting personalities are really genuine in why they show content? If they are truly genuine in their support for conservation.
Thank you for bringing your stance to the table. I have been a life long hunter and a big fan of your brother along with some other social media hunting. I felt shows like your brothers and the hunting public were a large upgrade in comparison to more traditional hunting tv like real tree. I first learned of your stance on your brothers podcast and have been a fan ever since. You have changed the way I view hunting and social media.
Great work by Matt uncovering the profiteering and plunder of these hunting resources. Its basically like a wall street operation for the pursuit of hunting and its disgusting. Again good job Matt and also an big thanks to Pope and Young for having him as a speaker
This is a core critique posed by Aldo Leopold many many times. He was very critical of hunting “boosters” of all stripes - even hunters reliant on sporting industry "gadgets".
Spot on Matt, thank you for your presentation. Crowding is certainly becoming an issue here in Michigan as well. The interesting part however, the herd size continues to grow. The new generation only wants a social media post with their trophy. They will not shoot a doe because they believe it is beneath them. These hunters could care less about putting meat in the freezer. It’s all about the gear that they possess and the image they are trying to create.
Your point is well made. I have thought these things true since the 90's as all the areas I hunted as a teenager were shut down and no longer available to my children. I will not be watching Meateater podcasts.
Thank you for taking a stand and speaking the truth, few would. Didn't hear any applause from the crowd at the end? I've had threats and nearly assaulted for speaking out against land owner license abuse at Game & Fish meetings. I do not support any hunting non-profits. The worst is Muley Fanatics, two guys getting rich off the decline of mule deer.
I have never considered the motive behind hunter recruitment or actually thought it could be a negative thing. Very eye opening. I will be following this closely. Canada still has a lot of land to hunt but it's slowly eroding here as well
Thanks Matt. I feel like I have been duped by the Industry. All of the data is helpful. Growing up in Texas I was not aware that public land hunting was even possible. It has always been who you know or how much money you had. I have never liked social media posts around dead or dying animals. Shows no respect to post to everyone in my opinion. More power to your work. I am going to start helping where I can.
I have been aware of the greed involved in hunting especially from the dnr and in my case ODNR. The traveling across the country harvesting animals for the act of making money is unethical to say the least.
Too many modern hunters that expect to walk out sit down shoot a buck take pictures and post it. No major effort and will not even process the animal or eat it. Instant gratification is all they want.
@JordanStreun. R3 stands for recruit, retain and reactivate. All 3 an incentive for more hunters with complete disregard for the over crowded public lands and added pressure on wildlife.
Matt makes some good points but I also think he is wrong in some areas. I support the hunt quietly movement mainly for one reason. I think social media has increased the number of people that hunt just to kill for views. I primarily waterfowl hunt so I cannot speak to other forms of hunting but the amount of people that hunt ducks now just for the "Gram" or views is through the roof. Many of these people are poachers that do not eat their game. I have seen and hear stories all the time of groups of guys going out and shooting a bunch of mallards for a social media post and then let their ducks rot and do not care. Every season I run into it 2-3 times a year. Its poaching plain and simple, poaching for a photo or video is wrong. It degrades hunting and is morally abhorrent.
Spot on , but the only thing I would say is the hunter recruitment, we need the recruitment of the younger generations to unsure the future. Thank you for what you are doing for conservation. Thanks, Terry L. Zink
You cant have free market capitalism and then b!tch about privitization of hunting land. The issues you are raising are microcosms of your entire country.... 1% of americans have 90% of the wealth type things.
Way to go Matt. You killed it! As the word gets out more and more people are realizing how right you are. It's great to see the growth in the hunt quietly movement.
Well articulated, Matt! Thanks for being a voice for authentic hunting

Knocked it out of the park. Keep up the great work so the movement can keep growing!

Very eye opening, good work. Let's put the focus and having fun and not so much on a body count. Very well spoken!!
Thank God .I've been been a taxidermist and bowhunter for over 40 years I could write a book on the destruction of the true woodsman.
Keep up the great work and words
You are THE MAN!!!
Thank you Matt and hunt quietly crew for speaking out against the forces that are ruining hunting for all of us.
Great job Matt! Very well spoken!
Great job matt!!
This was absolutely sensational! I do think it’s a fight that will over time be lost.

Damn Matt you are driving those nails deep... all true

Interesting perspectives. Food for thought, for sure.
just facts lol
It’s really hard to argue with most of these points
Finally someone publicly saying what average hunters have been saying for decades

I had no idea man
Its sad. Devalues the life and purpose of the animal too.

17:33 maybe I’m the only one who doesn’t know but what is R3?
@JordanStreun. R3 stands for recruit, retain and reactivate. All 3 an incentive for more hunters with complete disregard for the over crowded public lands and added pressure on wildlife.
Wow, I’ve done real conservation for 35 years, I’ve never heard of R-3 what exactly is it ??
Another stupid marketing tactic

You're doing the opposite of what you're saying though... You're talking about it!
no choices left.
Wow I wonder what your brothers reaction to this will be....
Who gives a fuck he’s part of the problem!
Spot on , but the only thing I would say is the hunter recruitment, we need the recruitment of the younger generations to unsure the future. Thank you for what you are doing for conservation. Thanks, Terry L. Zink
I have never listened to something where I completely disagree with the speaker more, but still enjoyed listening to it.
