I dislike the low quailty off shore Key-in-Knob and Lever Locks but sometimes you have to rekey them. This is one of the most common locks that we have that are the inexpensive, let's call it cheap garbage, that we're seeing in the home hardwares, the Walmarts of the world, the offshore made key and knobs or lever lock and we have to re-key them. They come apart differently from a lot of our commercial grade locks.

This video saved me from buying a new lock.
Key would not go into the lock and it only worked from the inside. Took it apart as you showed, rekeyed and reassembled even thought a small part got disconnected but it works. All the keys worked, thank God.
Thank you Sir for your knowledge shared.
Thanks, this was exactly what I needed. Ran into a Taiwanese knockoff Kwikset knob. Could not get the cylinder out until you told me to put the key back in and whack it haha. Piece of junk lock but it lives past today.
This was so helpful! For instance, I didn't even have to remove the doorknob to rekey, just put a pin in the retainer and pull the knob and lock cylinder off! Thanks
Thank you, just what I was looking for.
Thankyou so much sir because of your video I get my stuck key🥰
I picked one of these up at a garage sale. getting the rekeyed cylinder back in the knob was a chore lol fat fingers always get in the way
constantly am rekeying these style knobs in the apartments i look after...i often find spool security pins in them from the factory? in the cheapest knobs..there will always be at least two spool drivers...but still easy to pick.. i rekey them with a more radical bitting and add a couple serrated pins and it makes them harder to defeat.. but the overall quality of them is pretty bad.
Great video, thank you sir!
mswtoyota Thanks!
How would I go about removing the key cylinder if a key is stuck in the knob locks you show?
Prinz Heinz Ketchup Usually the key gets stuck because you have the key upside down to the bible or the end cap is loose. ( Watch my video on Top 10 locksmith mistakes)
Help I was rekeying and one of the pin didn't quite match up and now my key won't turn
I DO THIS EVERY DAY
seen a knock off of Kwikset Titan, picked it and two lugs retract into cut outs in the plug.

man.... i am having HARD time depressing "pin" and pulling handle off on my defiant lock (looks pretty much just like in video) . I tried for hours. Using a tiny finish nail. I dont hear a click. After rotating to expose "pin" then Pressing tiny nail into the tiny hole with little and lots of pressure....no click and as i pull on it it would not budge, maybe the maximum i pulled of is 1/16 or 1/8 ...... any advice for me?
Crap lock, replace it.
I have a Kwickset deadbolt and I use the original key. When I turn to the right to lock, I could not turn the key back to the upright position. I had to jiggle the key numerous times until the lock allows me to turn the key upright. What can I do to fix this? thanks
I had the same problem. I found that you have to go up one number on each of the 5 bottom pins to get it to work smoothly.
Here the best advice I can give anyone is just throw lock away and put on Schlage grade 2 lock. It isn’t any more expensive.
nice video...some of these locks are just not worth rekeying!
