    John Logie Baird invented TV. From Helensburgh near Glasgow. While you were gallivanting Eddy, you walked past the bank where Stevie the bookie (thieving prick) got Winston his £32,500!

    My first wide screen TV, before HD etc. was only 36" and cost me nearly £2K. I think it was a Panasonic Viera. Expensive back then, almost 20 years ago. But it's still working and is now in my bedroom. Today's TV's and appliances are cheaper, basically because they've become 'throw away' items that aren't economically viable to get repaired. It's all down to consumerism and 'planned obsolescence'. You've also got 'perceived obsolescence', where trends in colours, finish and looks come into play. One year it'll be black stuff, another year it'll be stainless stuff etc. Basically a 'keeping up with the Joneses' mentality. I've got out of that now. I only replace things when they break, not when the new 'trend' comes out. It's all a marketing scam.... Older and wiser now..... As well as skint due to inflammation at the moment.

    I just got out of the house for the first time since March 2020 last week. Had just stayed in because of you know what, had food delivered etc kind of weathering everything out. Only went out to put the bins out. Would not recommend to anyone.
    Also I had one of those projector things back in the 90s, it sort of worked for what it was, but was never very good.

      @Veryverybored98 Před 20 dny +1

      Just recently started going out of the house because of starting college. I was in for about 3 years straight so it was stressful. I'm getting used to going out now but I'm always much happier when I stay at home as often as I can.

    Not that this episode is bad, but I think just to put the cherry on top, they should have at least had a wee "We'll check up on you here and there, Archie" moment, so it doesn't just feel like he completely stops seeing anyone again, surely people would still be welcome to visit!

      Seems like you must be about my age. A Panasonic Viera was about the same, and only 36". And not what today would be called a 'flat screen'. But it was back then. Not wall mountable or anything either. Marketed at the time as 'the flattest, squareist tube', if I'm recalling it correctly. And I got a Currys employee discount, because my missus was a manager there at the time.

    I've seen some videos on the subject, but they are normally top 10 lists they never scratch the surface
    even though it's not a full list & misses things out stuff like Scottish-Canadian James Naismith the son of 2 Scottish parents but born in Canada he invented basketball but Americans including Wikipedia claims he's Canadian-American
