This song isn't "The Sound of Silence", it's "The Boxer." They had so many great songs. "Bridge over Troubled Waters" and "Homeward Bound" are two of my favorites.
It is difficult to people new to some of this music to understand. There are people working in Information Technology (IT) of whom try to make people like Asia and BJ look stupid. I find this to be horrible.
@@marlachristensen2076 Agreed.
Hey guys, just FYI - this song is NOT "Sound of Silence," it's "The Boxer."
No one else seemed to notice it either !
I did but I’m still complaining that the Bob Dylan song they covered recently wasn’t even Bob singing . Was a cover and they their commentary was all about the dude’s voice in the cover , (which was very pedestrian) and ppl were going nuts with frustration but I still don’t think they’ve noticed the discrepancy .
They say twice that it is the boxer themselves, the title is just wrong... you better watch the whole clip.
@@n_other_1604 I did. I'm simply pointing out that the title info is incorrect so they can fix it, so others won't be misled. Sheesh.
@@eclconsulting The concert was called 'The Sounds of Silence 'in Maddison Square gardens 2009 . Read closely before you comment
Read the lyrics.. it's a very deep song and sad. Paul Simon sang this on SNL with NYPD & FDNY the first Saturday they came back on after September 11th. OMG..cried and cried. It's more of a New York anthem since then.
I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel & had a lot of their records. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. You won't find a bad song. They have had so many hits such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Sound Of Silence", "The Boxer", "Mrs. Robinson", "Scarborough Fair", "At The Zoo", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "El Condor Pasa" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs.
This was beautiful, but I would definitely recommend listening to the studio version too. There’s some gorgeous sounds on that track, that make it a song worth knowing about.
Yes I was thinking the same thing! This doesnt even really sound like the studio version
I think S & G were getting tired of singing this song the same way. In my opinion they tampered with it too much
" The Sound Of Silence " is a monumental song , You Two
Gotta Here It !
Asia/BJ: You'll love their "The Sounds of Silence", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Mrs. Robinson" and many more. Powerful vocals and songwriting from 2 of the best!!
Bridge over trouble water is my all time favorite ❤️❤️❤️
You think that's awesome the studio version is out of this world. I'm thankful for being a GenX and having family with a diverse music appreciation. John Denver, Roy Orbison, Simon & Garfunkel, Beach Boys, Turtles, Mamas & The Papas, Tommy James & The Shondells, Eric Burden & the Animals, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, The Supremes, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Bee Gees, ABBA, Donna Summer, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons, Elvis, Dusty Springfield, The Carpenters, and Olivia Newton John.
Harmonies for days and days with those two. Paul Simon is a lyrical giant of music. So many hit songs in the 60’a and 70’s.
Spot on about the beat being “tropical”. Simon & Garfunkel, especially Paul Simon, experimented with world music and world beats increasingly over the years. *Check them out in the early 60s with just Paul on guitar and them harmonizing together. Simply incredible!
Damn I didn't think y'all could top off things any better than you already have tonight... you must hear more from these guys. Just primo talent. ❤ So peaceful.
It is REALLY worth listening to the album version of this particular song - very different, although they did a nice job adapting to a version that is performable live. It is truly a classic, and the instrumentation is epic.
Simon and Garfunkel "the only living boy in New York" is epic X 😊
Y'all picked my favorite song of theirs! But like many have said, they have TONS of great songs!!!
The Sound of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Waters are a must.
These guys made timeless, beautiful music
Soon as I saw Simon & Garfunkel, hit that play button! Love you guys and love that you reacted to them!
BJ!!!! Make sure you keep that lady of yours!!! She has so much positive energy in her eyes!!!
They just put out some really, truly beautiful music. The lyrics, the harmonies, the melodies. Not sure if you’ve done “Bridge over troubled water”, “The Sound of Silence” and “Mrs. Robinson” but I highly recommend “Homeward Bound”, “I am a Rock” and “Kathy’s Song”. Then there’s Paul Simon’s solo career which we’ll save for another day. Yeah, I’m a fan. Much love. ❤️
The backbeat drag on the drums is what gives that “island feel”. The drummer is playing just a tiny bit slower that the other instruments. Adding the Theremin melodies adds to it
It's a song with a light feeling but with a heavy message, especially when he said he felt more at home in a war zone than what he returned to.
Fun fact: in the early 60's Columbia Records put together a folk trio group called The Pilgrims as their answer to Warner Records very popular hit folk trio Peter Paul and Mary. A then little known songwriter working in Tin Pan Alley came to the studio to shop a song that the Pilgrims' producer hoped to include on their debut album. He asked the songwriter to record a demo of the song for the Pilgrims to rehearse, but when he heard the song sung by the songwriter and his buddy he immediately gave them a contract to record it themselves, and the Pilgrims' debut album 'Just Arrived' was released without that song.
The songwriter was Paul Simon, his buddy was Art Garfunkel, the song was 'Song Of Silence'.
The lead singer of The Pilgrims was a black former soldier, who was also enjoying a successful career as an opera singer, dancer, musical and stage and Broadway actor and concert singer. He later had a very successful career on two hit tv sitcoms, 'Soap' and 'Benson'. His name was Robert Guillaume.
P.S. there are CZcams videos of him singing another Simon and Garfunkel hit 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' live.
Legends!! The originators of "The Sounds of Silence", "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" give them a spin.
When I was young, my mom would play her albums for me. I have always loved these guys
They don't have a bad song amongst the two of them and they put out so many songs in the short time that they were together. When Paul Simon win solo that's when the hits really started coming out and you won't regret Paul Simon on his own. Thanks for this one enjoyed your reaction as usual it's never a letdown you two are great to experience this music again with.
They sound better on the album than in person in my opinion.
We'll this is from 2009 they are old in this video i hate it when reactors plays live versions of songs when the artists are way past their primes. That's why it's better to just stick with the album versions.
Simon and gardunkel were masters of ontroducing layers of sound into songs often using unusual instruments
Great live performance in Central Park. Production on the studio cut is even better.
And God said...."let there be 2-part harmony"........and behold, there was Simon & Garfunkel.
Asia. Your face that whole 2nd half of this video is why I love watching reactions haha.. Great job
Best vocal duos of all time. Try reacting to. Bridge Over Troubled Water, Sound of Silence, 59th street Bridge song(Feelin’ Groovy), Cecilia, And so many more!
The Silence of the Boxer haha
Just made me remember seeing them. Long long time ago! ❤️
We love you Art
The studio version of this song is SOOO much better.
I have loved their music for over 50 years. Listen to the studio version on here or on your on, you won't regret it. Enjoy
LEGENDS
So much to learn! Adventure on.🤠🇺🇸🇬🇧🇨🇦🐴🏈
You two are beautiful people and its so fun to listen to you guys
im getting ready for the NYC winters lol
Every live version is so different 😀you must listen to the cd version 👍but everything is so amazing 👏
You should listen to the recorded version. ( The Boxer ) The musical sound effects are even more amazing. Paul Simon has been one of the best song writers since the 60's. Their songs have been covered by almost every famous singer for the past 50 years..The Sound Of Silence alone has been covered over 50 times.
Please take time to listen to the studio recording of this song and savour the deep quality of their production and how it builds up and then returns back to a simple guitar accompaniment
This tune is all about Manhatten and an aging boxer who lives there. A girlfriend and I just happened to be in Manhatten this night, heard about this show from a bartender and strolled over to Central Park just in time for the first song. We grabbed a bottle of wines sat on a stone wall probably 500 yards from the stage. Still one of the best shows I've ever seen. What a beautiful evening.
Love how you guys really listen to the music! Thanks for your reactions ❤️
The two of them had split. They decided to get back together to do a show in Central Park (NY). They did not expect the reception they got. People showed them how much they loved their music. It turned into a great show.
these two are the greatest duo of all time, check out the sounds of silence, bridge over troubled water, homeward bound, slip sliding away,i suggest the concert in central park versions where a world record of over a half a million people attended. great reaction
I second the suggestion to listen to the studio version. Gorgeous song.
Asia was into the music and you BJ was into the lyrics.
Bridge over troubled water is amazingly beautiful. It also may have been the song that broke the partnership. Paul wrote it. Art sang it and was smothered with adulation for his presentation. Reportedly, Paul actually became jealous.
my favorite from them ...
while the live version of The Boxer was great, I would highly recommend that you listen to the studio version, it is much fuller with a rich sound, that obviously comes from the studio, but well worth the time to listen too. Have a listen and see....you will enjoy....
When they made this song back in the 60 (listen to the earlier version) they were only in their 20s!
WHEN LISTENING TO SIMON AND GARFUNKLE .....ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL STUDIO VERSIONS.
Love them so much! Listen to the studio version.. so much better. They were in Central Park.
Simon and Garfunkel we're great. So many songs. They both had solo careers, as well.
Need to listen to danika portz greatest show on earth! Very strong unique voice!
This song though has a powerful message, and the song story was sentimental. Such a special masterpiece.
Asia, this was the concert in 1981 at Central Park estimated 500,000 people( but who knows)
I never heard them before but I want to hear more. Beautiful words.
Art Garfunkel doing double harmonies on harmonies , used to sneak in to the bast room and play this album turned right down lying on the floor a speaker close to each ear , would have been around 7 .
Masterpiece! Thx y’all!
yeah, this isn't "the sound of silence", it's "the boxer". check out TSOS from s&g's 1981 LIVE FROM CENTRAL PARK - angelic, ethereal, simply gorgeous ❤
You folk are on to something here. Hey, I grew up in the 60s. You have no idea how popular this pair were. Every new release seemed to top the charts. Go into any small retail shop and you could hear these two in the background. Hollywood came calling for these guys. Everyone wanted their sound. "Mrs. Robinson" is my second favorite acoustical guitar composition (after Classical Gas by Mason Williams) with the added bonus of these two singing along with it.
Asia is not hearing it wrong. Paul Simon has a lot of South American and Islands influence in his acoustic melodies.
They did a concert in Central Park with an audience of half a million.
As others mentioned, "The Sounds of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" are MUSTS but, IMO, the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard (by anybody) are in "Kathy's Song". Sample: "And as I watch the drops of rain weave their weary paths and die, I know that I am like the rain; there but for the grace of you go I".
A half million fans showed up for a free concert in Central Park in NYC. Enough said.......but this was not Central Park. It was Madison Square Garden and amazingly they were both in their late 60's. Still had it.
Simon & Garfunkel. You can't go wrong with them and I see great suggestions below.
Simon and Garfunkel born and raised in Queens, New York
The 70s was the best decade. Real song and real people. ❤️
They sing- The Boxer!
Their most famous song by far is *BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER* whose cover by So Hyang you reacted to before!
Yo you gotta get them when they were young it’s a must. Go down their rabbit hole you guys will dig them.
The S&G rabbit hole is deep and good. You need to go there.
My favourite S & G song; on my top 10 songs list.
You should listen to the studio version.
This is the trippiest, slowest version of this song I've ever heard! They have so many good songs you will love please do more! 🥰🥰💕
Edit: I'll be honest here, it sounds like they were smoking 🚬 before the show .🙄
Great song 🎵
Watch their Central Park concert if you find it. Complete gold.
I love their song
"Hazy Shade of Winter"
As you already know that's not the Sound of Silence, that's the Boxer
One of their best harmonizing songs is Scarborough Fair where they actually sing two different songs at the same time...
Check them out more.
You won't believe how much wonderful music they made.
As an aging baby boomer I've been blessed to have grown up with great music and artists like Simon & Garfunkel. It's sad to know they, and many others of those icons have reached the end of the road. Today's music is god awful.
Great reaction! but not the "The Sound of Silence" - - you should def react to that song though!
The song they are listening to is "The Boxer".
C'mon people... this is THE BOXER. So at least Asia and B.J. still have Sounds of Silence yet to hear. Fix?
This song called The Boxer.
The studio version of this song is far and away much better!
This song isn't just the same without the building strings and giant bass notes at the end. Definitely listen to the studio recording.
Don't you wish you lived in the 1970's??? That is when real music REIGNED!!
Disturbed does an awesome cover of this, worth checking out
This is the song "The Boxer".
One of my favorites that nobody reviews by them
Cloudy
But the Boxer is still my #1
Haven’t heard the whole song
All time greats!
This is actually "The Boxer", not "Sounds of Silence", but still an awesome song! 😎
Follow suggestions below to get familiar with their classic bangers. 👍 They're unique in sound and talent. Paul Simon went on to solo career with African dance group behind him - "Diamonds on the soles of her shoes",😉
Always liked The Boxer song.
If you want to see them at their best, watch the Central Park concert in 1981. This one is when they were too old. Also as others have mentioned this is "The Boxer". Forget studio versions, seriously go with Central Park in 81. That concert was magic.
Scarborough Fair is great!
Videos blurred out but I do believe this is from the 1981 free concert they held in Central Park New York City.
Why aren't more people pointing out that this isn't The Sounds of Silence, it's the Boxer...
