  • Back to square 1! I had these mounted and balanced for my friend Gabe, decided to record the process for him. Unfortunately it didn't work out the way he had hoped for but it was a funny experience for me and thought I'd still share it with you all!
    I'll make another video of his car when he finds a set of wheels he is happy with for style/fitment!

    This setup is noice as fuck...the 15 x8 on 205s makes the car track like I had full-suspension on (if you know what I mean) in the turns the feel of the front loading up and not rolling over on the wheels made me feel like fuck I can push it. He needs to drive on that setup before he trashes it. But I guess for everyday normal driving he wouldn't want to feel planted

  • @alexhise968
    @alexhise968 Před 3 lety +4

    I run a little bit of stretch on all the race tires I run. It really depends on the criteria that need to be met and what the limits of the tire are. I can give a few examples. A 245/40R15 VR-1s on a 15x10s i had 225/45r15 R1Rs on 15x9s. the reason I stretch tires a bit is for more respoonsive turn in. And i also get a little less squirm on undulations.
    -Side note I hope to move to a 15x11 with a 275/35 Tire Next Yeat

    Ironic that I saw this and totally forgot these were Hypergrams. I just ordered the 15x7.5 size in these with some 205/50 S.Drives, so I'm hoping the fitment is perfect. Also, I got the wing you mentioned in a recent video and aside from a slight fitment issue on the driver side and it being way brighter/more clean than my actual car (lol) I love it!

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  Před 7 lety +1

      Casey Hardman you'll be set with that fit, what's the offset on the 7.5's? I like the S drive tires a lot too. They have a nice sporty look and some great grip for your cruise videos! Did you get the white gel costed wing?

    • @CaseyHardman
      @CaseyHardman Před 7 lety

      They have a 35mm offset, so it should sit pretty square with the 205s! And I did! I had to remove the spray nozzle for it to fit, but other than that, it's great.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  Před 7 lety +1

      Casey Hardman That'll fit great, you might need a little negative camber in the rear if you have DA rear discs, if you'll still on drums or CRX Si discs, it should be flush! Make a new video when it's ready, I'd like to see the fitment!

    lookin good Jon!!!! Never been a fan of the stanced scene either. a friend of mune had a stanced ek and the amount of work he had to put in just to get out of his driveway was exhausting. all the stepped down pieces of wood. rode horrible and handled horrible too. of course it had to have the buddy club spec 2 on it. that kind of forged in me a desire for function over everything. kiss principle with choice,simple mods. stance has its place in the scene but i never understood it.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  Před 7 lety

      Agreed, but this wasn't too bad of a stretch,p. The wheels were just too wide and the offset too much to fit on this car. These probably would have fit your car like a baller! Lol

    • @RayHikes
      @RayHikes Před 7 lety

      You didn't say specifically in the video, what aspect of these wheels caused the fitment to be so off? Was it the width? Offset? Or a combination of both? Looking at wheels for mine and don't want to end up like this. Isn't 8.5 really wide for an EF?

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  Před 7 lety +4

      Ray Evans Combination of both. An 8" wide can fit fine but you'll need an offset between +35 to +40. You'll see plenty of track EFs that run those specs. Some negative camber will also be needed and as well as rolled fenders to fit that spec. He could've just ran a lot of negative camber but that wasn't his plan.

    • @RayHikes
      @RayHikes Před 7 lety

      Would the 15x7.5 35 Hypergrams fit alright without excessive negative camber? Love the looks of the wheel, but hate the stance look with tons of camber. Thanks for the response!

    This is great. I have 15x6.5 and it was a major toss up between Dz-102 and S.Drive. I ended up getting the S.Drive. 195/50r15. In my opinion 205 are to much in Ef chassis. S.drive were less $ and have better Utqg rating. Tire tread rating. And man I've been impressed with them ever since. Highly recommended. I want to try the Dz-102 next but I'll probably get the s drive again.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  Před 6 lety

      +Kyle Govan 205/50 are too much for a 6.5" wide wheel. An 8" wide tire on that skinny of a wheel makes it too bubbly, now on a 7" wide wheel it's perfect. The 205/50 on 15x7" is my favorite size for tires on an EF.
      The S Drive are much stickier with the 300 TW rating, but they will wear out faster compared to the 460 TW on the Dunlop. My friend bought the Dunlop because the car is daily driven 98% of the time. The other 2% he might be driving it hard, but it's rare. I really like the way the Dunlop feel. I just got a used set of S Drives on my new track wheels which I'll swap to a different set of wheels and I'm axnious to see how those feel, especially after hearing your opinion also!!

  • @harryazzole7814

    Coilovers and camber kits could've solved the fitment issue now that I come back to this video again. Could've got the car corner balanced and tucked at all 4 corners and then dialed in 3 degrees in the back and 2.5 up front and that should've cleared them.

    I'm not a fan at all of stretched tires either. But those are fine. You actually don't want too wide of a tire if you plan on track or autox as the tire will be sloppier and fold over on itself. If it's just for style, then yeah, it looks a little goofy.

    So I’m in the market to buy new wheels and tires. I’ve been told to do 6.5 with 0 offset for my Sedan. The question I have is that is 195/45/15 (or something like it?) I believe and it seems quite small to me. I wanted to run at least a 7 inch but I’m worried about fitment. I want to run a small amount of camber in the back like just a few degrees and I don’t want to mess with the fenders at all. So I’m wondering if you have any suggestions?

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  Před 7 lety

      kracksmith4ejm1 The reverse stagger would be sweet especially for a track car. His is just a daily driver though. The compressor air blown onto the tire helps set the bead. since the tire is stretched it doesn't reach the edges of the wheel, when the compressed air is shot onto the edges it fills into the tore stretching it to the bead, thus the pop into place when the bead sets.

    15x9 with 205/50 isn't even a stretch, 50 is a good amount of sidewall. if you see it in person it is not stretched at all, and there are a lot of fast miata racers running that kind of setup.
