  • We're not sure who was bugged more, the Cayman or Kelly. Once again, the Lake Country UK team has brought in formidable paint correction on a surface scarred with and covered in bug etching. How does etching occur? How do you get rid of deep etching like this? Kelly knows.

I’ve used an entry-level 8mm orbital forever. But the day I decide to leap to the deep-end, I’m getting that UDOS. Nuts.

Nothing wrong with an 8mm polisher, that's a great place to start! Thanks for watching :)

That UDOS machine looks fantastic but Lake Country Tools still needs to develop and sell a "MICRO" UDOS machine. The exact same features as the big boy but in a micro machine to allow for polishing in smaller areas that require a micro polisher. If they could develop it with a battery and cord system like the iBrid, even better. That way you always have a back up if you don't have a battery charged.

Really a master showing his craft. What a difference, did the owner choose to go with a full correction on whole car or did they repaint certain areas or whole car? What was their reaction when you showed them the resut?
The difference when you got done with that section was truly extraordinary. If I attempted such a detail I would be concerned with burning through the clear, but then again I am not nearly as skilled.

If had to deal with this I would simply cover the appropriate panels with PPF. PPF can stain with certain bugs, but the sun’s UV typically causes them to disappear.

I've seen what you're describing and in actual fact there have been specific occasions (this is Jay talking about our time at/as KDS Keltec) where we have done just that - fitted PPF to roof, hood, bootlid etc because the owner had no choice but to keep the car somewhere it was guaranteed to get covered in bird, bug and tree mess. Even if the PPF had ended up stained and wrecked, on that car, with that originality, that value and so on, the PPF could be considered sacrificial despite the cost. It would have been much more expensive and detrimental, let alone difficult because of the colour, to have to re-paint. PPF doesn't always re-heal though - sometimes it's just a case of 'it depends on the chemical and the brand of PPF' and being lucky, or unlucky...

Great video by the master himself. I've read that the bugs are particularly attracted to black cars thinking its water then they get stuck in any moisture on the panel. The black cars I've owned really suffered with this and some mornings the roof of the car was covered in tiny white flies.Look forward to the next video 👍

I love your videos … sadly I wasn’t able to be at the workshop in Germany @chemicalshark … hopefully there will be chance to attend to another … love all the lakecountry pads … can you tell us which compound you used in the video ? Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪✌🏽

Hi Timo, Kelly and I will be at Automechanika in Frankfurt in a couple of weeks? This was a well-known upper-medium cut compound but, as ever, we actually use a variety of high-quality diminishing abrasive compounds in our videos. This helps us to ensure that our pads work well with everybody's favourite compounds, and that what you see us do on screen can be replicated by end users at home or in the workshop.
"What makes a good compound?" might be a good idea for a video.... hmmmm.....

Hey Kelly, amazing video. I had a weird case with a customer's freshly painted car. The paint was approximately 3 months old and the car was black. There were severe tree sap etchings which I sanded with 1500/2000, compound with microfiber pad on 15mm orbit and final polish. I then completely washed the car, degreased it with IPA and ceramic coated it. However, after the first wash, these etching came excatly the same as before. What is the reason for that? Were they too deep in the clear coat because the car was freshly painted and it was hot because it is black? And why did they appear after the first wash while the car was properly washed and degreased after the polishing stage? The polishing compounds I use do not contain fillers or silicons. Was this temporary effect achieved because of the heating of the paint?

No such word as alkalinic . It's either acid or alkaline.
