Zelda missing Sonia, one of the few people to guide her through a confusing past, acted as a mother when she didn't have one, the one who died right in front of her... She's gonna need some time to move past all of that.
I imagine Link brought her fireflies because he remembered fireflies making people feel better from Kakoriko Village in the first game.

Sonia may be Zelda’s distant ancestor, but she was the closest thing Zelda had to a mother.

I think it was that she reminded her of her mother, and that she had to lose both her actual mother and her motherly figure. It’s still just as sad though :(

Sonia's death was extremely tragic for Zelda, but we don't see her grieving like Rauru did in the Dragon Tear memories. For her to hold something like that in for so long...of course it would hit hard for her. Link remembered how the fireflies helped in both BotW and TotK, so good on him.

It's the fact that's she's really missing Sonia, her mother figure she got to spend time with outside of being Zelda's ancestor, since the Calamity, is what makes it so sad.
Will you also being doing some with Mineru and Rauru? Maybe in a form of some flashbacks. I do remember finding a stone tablet that says they enjoyed dancing and singing and that Zelda spent quite some time with Mineru learning about Constructs. Would be nice to see those!! 😍😍
