Learning Mike was once a teacher makes so much sense. Being a teacher is a lot of "smile and wave boys" so the kids don't panic/get excited/get depressed. They're little emotional sponges that way.

I still agree Jamie did best because in the last 30 seconds Mike let his face show the pain somewhat, and also he shouted, even though he very amusingly masked it with "singing". BUT let's not blame him for the shaking which was unavoidable.

watching "Hot Ones" all the time the second I saw "Da Bomb" I was 110% invested because no matter how much hotter The Last Dab is on that show, Da Bomb is what usually breaks guests.
my understanding is the others are meant as actual sauces, actual multi-flavoured condiments. da bomb is just like a troll "sauce". it's focus is just to be hot, not actually tasty. i've heard it's quite bitter and just has no redeeming factors.

Having had dabomb and not even being a chili head, it really is just gross and hot. I've had considerably hotter sauces that I'd try again just because they're actually tasty despite the heat

Hahaha right? I saw the shape of the bottle before my brain registered the label and thought Oh ooooo this won't end well... It technically isn't even the hotest sauce in the lineup, but something in it always manages to break everyone.
Same. And I know besides being hot it doesn't have a good flavor. Part of me was disappointed the chefs didn't pick a better, hotter sauce.

I would've given that last one to Jamie, he nearly finished his drink. Poker face can't be just keeping straight face - if your other actions(or inaction) reveal your cards. I don't buy it from someone who says the drink is delicious but hasn't done but few sips.
Yeah, Mike shouldn't have had the third round, either. He's covering up with other emotions. A poker face is zero emotion. He's reacting to cover the pain with stronger emotions to overcome; Jamie suppressed all emotions.

Honestly, I feel their pain. I once (on a dare, mind you) took a drop of pure Carolina Reaper extract directly on the tongue. It was one of the strangest sensations I've ever felt. Not so much hot as it was numbing. The heat came later on. And when that hit, it was as though I was being impaled lengthwise on the horns of Satan himself. At its peak, I walked outside and took my shirt off in the frigid cold of the dead of a northern Wisconsin winter. Later on, after a glass of milk and a few beers, I looked at the bottle. 3 MILLION SHU.

As a Texan who grew up eating spicy hot food, I can confirm that you can enjoy the pain of the heat. The tears and runny nose may come, but you can still genuinely enjoy the experience. I feel like Jamie came the closest to the experience.

He was clearly showing an emotional and physical reaction on both nearly instantly. This wasn't a make people laugh while suffering challenge the point was to not show emotional or physical changes, in other words to maintain a poker face. Anyone who knows how to play poker could fleece poor mike for every dime he has, his poker face is so bad.

I thought the concept was that only one of three would get the hot food and the judge should guess who's got it. So you had to make a poker face to hide that you got the hot dish. That could be a fun challenge.

*Capsicum is the family of all the plants that make these type of fruits: paprika, peppers, bell peppers, chilis, whatever you call them. You mean capsaicin, which is the hot element in (some of) them.

@@qazedctgb19 Yeah Ebbers must have been mistaken, they are two different words wherein capsicum refers to a bell pepper whereas capsaicin refers to the chemical component found in chilli peppers.

Pretty debatable if Barry had the Second Round, but Jamie pwned this. The fact that a slight "widening" of the eyes was enough to lose in one round, while the whole face scrunching in the last wasn't let me know that Ben was playing to Mike's tongue again.

Right there with you! We did a hot ones challenge after our wedding reception but didn't include da bomb just based on everyone on the show saying it's just hot no flavor.
I've tried Da Bomb and I could not stop involuntarily salivating for about 30 minutes

@@cherishjfk It has to do with the way the sauce is made. The Last Dab is made using whole peppers, whereas sauces like Blairs and Da Bomb are made using concentrated chili extracts, meaning there is no flavor or anything to back up or lessen the heat.
When I saw that bottle in Ben's hand I know things gets serious.
