Same for me. I quit playing SC2 ladder before HotS was released and just played a few arcade games since. Watched a few games occasionally after the AlphaStar thing got my interest. About a year or 2 ago I found Winter's channel and now he's the only caster I watch and it's every day thing.
Serral might be the best Zerg at the moment, but Dark is truly the most entertaining. And he is a different kind of monster when he is focused. There were times I forgot he is playing against Maru.
@@growtocycle6992 At the highest level, largely they dont die to stupid stuff or weird stuff. At least thats how serral plays. You cant kill him with mind games or stuff like that. So you just have to be really on top of what your doing. So it comes down to formula

When Serral wins, he destroyed his opponent, which is not very exciting to watch at all unless you are already his fan. But when Dark or Maru win, sometimes they would comeback from a huge deficit (because they are not as dominant as Serral) and that would make a lot of people fall in love with them.
And if you want more validation, you're the only SC2 caster I watch, the others are all boring or cringe (by my standards at least) so if you weren't retired... i'd probably only ever rewatch your old videos from here on out

I've been watching the casting since i think 2018, i think at some point i had trouble falling asleep without hearing your voice in the background lol, you do make, at least my day, better and more relaxing with your videos, so keep it up!
Dark did some things that I've been theorycrafting for awhile with ZvT. He cut drones in the high 50's to 60's a couple times in order to make sure he had enough army to overwhelm and shut down Maru's pushes instead of just barely holding on and he was able to tilt the map that way. He also got creatively aggressive to punish terran greed a couple of times and he used nydus both offensively, defensively and in order to feint (he nydus'd the main and killed the gold base instead.) This is what the zerg meta has to be in ZvT right now (besides Serral, he just gets to be better than everyone.)
I don't remember where it started, but the meme of Dark being the best player(zerg) as ranked by Dark is so fucking funny to me. It also reminds me of my favorite (sarcastic) comeback/joke whenever my abilities at anything are questioned. I just say "Nuh uh, I'm really good at XYZ, you can ask my Mom... She will tell ya."

Vampiric Medics sucked all the flying out of the Queens and the Transportation out of the Transports. The Queens have been touched by the dark energy of the Medic Vampires; that's why they can heal a bit now. The Transports were utterly consumed by the Medics' insatiable and genocidal hunger. Although this story is not canon, it is 100% metaphorically true. Medivacs are three units in one Imba body.
This game was just max Dark. Every game was different, unexpected, brutal. Great series, great commentary. Thanks Winter, as always. Wonderful casting.

You’re absolutely right. My own reflexes, decision making, and APM have long dropped below the level to play SCII at high level it is despite its age still the most entertaining game to watch as a spectator.
1:03:48 pfft the game is old, I guess I'm headed up there too. I'm 35 and after being around Starcraft since 1999 I finally learned to actually play the game with strategy this year. I think it's because of how control groups used to work... shit makes way more sense now . Been watching tons of these casts the past few months too, as long as there's zerg 😂
I think Maru might be one of the few players Dark has absolute respect for, given the way he plays against him. For lots of other players, Dark is willing to play up the memes and just kind of roll with it. But against Maru, Dark brings his most try-hard A-game. Game 1 was almost hilarious, but Game 2, wow. Not only was Game2 some of the best Dark gameplay I've ever seen, it might be some of the best ZERG I've ever seen. Really immaculate.
Watching your videos almost daily has become one of my pass times Winter. I may not thumbs up every single time, but I do try to watch every video all the way through. I really don't know much about star craft 2, only started to look up beginner guides and such just so I can understand the lingo. But Dark by far is my favorite character/player of all time so far. And your commentary really helped me like him and understand him. Best player in the world by Dark, it's Dark! That's just so funny to me. Now the final boss is leaving due to required military service time. Rip. I'll miss watching him. Hopefully someone can take his place in the meantime.

Another amazing cast from Winter. Now, for the games themselves. Dark was so good, and the entertainment value he provided was immense. Maru must be pretty embarrassed, playing using the cheat race while considered the best (laughs in Clem and Oliveira) but still losing to a Zerg that's not Serral. But that's what you get from the most overrated player in the game's history. He is most likely still having nightmares of Serral. Now, if only they balanced Terran in this game, we may finally see Terran players finally learning how to actually play the game instead of relying on their cheats to force wins.

I like Dark by the same reason I like Her0, they both seem to do whatever they like. But Dark indeed have 2 versions of himself. When he is really focused, the difference is visible.
Its the same with Hero really, though i think of the two of them, Dark is the better player, because even in important games Hero just makes too many mistakes, i mean his walloffs (or lack of) have become a meme at this point and not without reason. Personally i think that he should just put a probe in his walls with a shieldbattery behind at this point. That way he at least has something in his wall, after he F2s.

Winter as just a 15 year old I’ve been playing this game semi consistently (just campaign coop and custom) since I was 3 with my dad until about 4 months ago I decided I’d give 1v1 a try since then I have watched every single one of your daily videos and more previous ones and I have to say they make my day a little bit better every time I tune in I’m at diamond 2 on my Protoss and Terran and your switch to kinda explain stuff has helped me soo much so I just wanted to say thank you ❤

The nydus is such an unbalanced mechanism. No risks for almost instant infinite units teleport with no regards to distance. Terran and protoss have so much risk while moving units across the map
Dark - creates chaos and revels in it. DON'T LET DARK CREATE CHAOS. It's almost as if he gets bored at playing standard games and loses but in chaos, he's a monster

I hope this isn't the last GSL we see... 14 years of history... For more than a decade, the most prestigious tournament, not just in Starcraft, but in the entire RTS genre. Yes, the Koreans never looked for advertising it worldwide and never seemed like it will ever grow bigger, but still... The fans highly respected it, came all over the world showing their love. GSL made a lot of people go to Korea or just support the tournament. The prizes went down 10 times simply because the organizers didn't move a finger to expand it, to advertise it outside Korea, or to make it interesting for foreign investors. The decision is completely unexplainable IMHO. If I remember correctly, once Samsung was among the sponsors and I thought to myself "OK, it's a step forward. Samsung is a worldwide corporation." But then, they made it strictly in Korean. They never tried to reach Europeans and Americans. (For e.g. I am a big fan of the Samsung products.) Samsung is considered the best in Europe, so it was so easy to do. But they didn't... If Koreans have decided to stick to BW, I am here to call it a bad decision. Thank you for the casting, Winter. We could feel the nostalgia and the sadness... With the clouds, comes the rain... and after that, the sun shines again... ❤❤❤
Its amazing how DARK plays such a different brand of Zerg and wins against the best Terran in the World. No doubt DARK is great, but I think it also has to do with the tournament style of the GSL compared to the oversee tourneys. You can really plan for your opponents styles

For more than a decade, the most prestigious tournament, not just in Starcraft, but in the entire RTS genre.
Yes, the Koreans never looked for advertising it worldwide and never seemed like it will ever grow bigger, but still...
The fans highly respected it, came all over the world showing their love.
GSL made a lot of people go to Korea or just support the tournament.
The prizes went down 10 times simply because the organizers didn't move a finger to expand it, to advertise it outside Korea, or to make it interesting for foreign investors.
The decision is completely unexplainable IMHO.
If I remember correctly, once Samsung was among the sponsors and I thought to myself "OK, it's a step forward. Samsung is a worldwide corporation." But then, they made it strictly in Korean. They never tried to reach Europeans and Americans. (For e.g. I am a big fan of the Samsung products.) Samsung is considered the best in Europe, so it was so easy to do. But they didn't...
If Koreans have decided to stick to BW, I am here to call it a bad decision.

Its amazing how DARK plays such a different brand of Zerg and wins against the best Terran in the World. No doubt DARK is great, but I think it also has to do with the tournament style of the GSL compared to the oversee tourneys. You can really plan for your opponents styles

Winter I think you can continue to branch out into creating personalities and voices for all the units. I think you did it recently with some Terran unit and it was funny. This is sort of along the lines of some of the funniest Tastosis jokes. Where they draw from the lore and sort of make fun of it.
