    I’ve heard about polygamy and the FLDS here and there before but it wasn’t until I watched this documentary last year that I really got to learn about the organization in depth and understand what its members had to go through. I was disturbed but couldn’t look away and finished the series in 2 days. Very well made documentary

    I had the honor of helping support a family who left/escaped the FLDS in Colorado City relocate to WA. They are how I learned of this new series. Also interesting about being told yours was the only true church. I was raised hearing the same thing in a very conservative Calvinistic denomination I grew up in.

    I recall travelling to Mormon Church in my early 20's one Sunday, with two other members.
    They were talking about the last day being near. My response was that I will turn 50, and the last days still wouldn't have come to pass; they were horrified.
    I am now 60.

    My LDS great grandmother’s patriarchal blessing said she would be alive when Christ returns. She used to preach to us kids about it and then when she passed when I was a young it certainly made me question the validity of it all. My dad spent our childhoods saying the end was any day. I think I’ve heard that now the LDS church is backing away from saying that.

    • @GrowingUpinPolygamy
      @GrowingUpinPolygamy  Před rokem +29

      I've heard about many people being told that in their patriarchal blessings, and yes, it feels troublesome. I think now most blessings are a lot more vague in order to avoid not coming true.

    • @sarahhunter1114
      @sarahhunter1114 Před rokem +9

      Ya, teachings like that take you to a place of fear, rather than living in the moment. I used to be LDS, and I don't have any bad feelings towards them, but I feel a huge weight lifted off. I can't imagine what these kids have to go through in the FLDS.
      It just goes to show, you can never be perfect enough, so just be perfectly imperfect.

    I’ve recently watched the series just to get informed.
    We live in Cedar City Utah and have many many neighbors who are FLDS from Short Creek.
    Breaks my heart.
    I have befriended a few of the ladies over the past 3 years and we support “Holding out Help”, a non profit who assists people leaving the FLDS and other polygamist communities.
    When I go into their homes or see the wallpaper on their phone screens, it’s Warren Jeffs picture everywhere. They are so brain washed.
    I don’t know what to do for them other than loving them right where they are, praying for them and being available.
    God bless you all

The whole series was pretty hard to watch, I had to turn off the sound and read subtitles on the final episode. My heart just goes out to everyone- the women/children victims of Warren but also the whole community who enabled Warren by donating and obeying so he could have free reign to abuse and control.
    It is so so sad because as Sam shares these are people who love their families and are trying to live good lives. I think it would be shattering to be so betrayed and I understand why many won’t investigate.

I want to see that Evil man die. I was converted to LDS in the early 80's and really truely believed it hook line and sinker, until I went to the Temple. Within a week of actually going through the Temple I walked away from LDS. I realised none of it was true. I have to admit sometimes I was really scared for my salvation. Appreciate this valuable insight from you both, would consider maybe setting up a camera to film you while watching it on your tv and including some of the reactionary footage in your next sit down recap?

    I'm a brazillian woman and I saw this doc. on Netflix. I can't even imagine to go through what you did, and I just want to say that you are very brave to have left that place and I really hope you have been liviving a beautiful life as free people. And I really hope this "religion" ends some day and everybody sees its true colors and leave. Peace and love to you.

      There is so much to cover, that I feel like each documentary just tries to cover a few select people's experiences at a time. Manti's story talks a lot about being moved around a ton like Rachel.

    Hello. I have just started watching you two within the last 2 weeks. I am obsessed. I have watched the documentary and read a few books. I have so many questions.
    1- did your sister that was married to Rulon marry Warren afterwards?
    2- Did you know Rachel Jeff’s?
    3- Are the families close within the community?
    I will start with these questions. Thank you for your time and insight.

    Thank you both. Sam, you may have answered this- but I'm very interested in how long it took for you to become whole, "normal" or deprogrammed. Watching how easily young people are brainwashed these days on tik tok and other social media it disturbs and worries me. You seem content and able to separate yourself from the world of flds. I commend you for your courage in facing it and walking away. May God bless you both.

    I watched the whole documentary and had so many questions at the end. What happened to the boys who were kicked out of the community? Why didn't that get the attention of child protection services? Does LDS reach out to former FLDS members?
    Thanks for sharing your experience, I will stay tuned for the next videos!

      So this is actually a well known issue in the area. Many of the boys are termed lost boys. But also, many of them are not kicked out until they are 18

      There’s a great documentary called Sons of Perdition that follows a few boys who either ran away or were kicked out, and what happens to them. Long story short they fall into the system, but the system is flawed and most have nowhere to go plus lots of trauma and turn to drugs and alchohol

    Mr.Wall does not seem to be too upset about the whole young girl situation.He married off his daughter to the old Jeffs and was truly honored.The only thing he seemed to be bothered by was the fact he didn't get three wifes which is the bare minimum you need to go to the kingdom in heaven.

      You should check out the book of the same name by Jon Krakauer, a wonderful non-fiction writer. The reasons for and perpetrators of the murders are, unfortunately, true. But the characters of Brother Pyle and his parter Bill are fictitious - compilations of various police involved on the case.
