One of the most challenging and oft-forgotten rooms to makeover is our Laundry Rooms. We have to somehow take what is usually the smallest space in the house and design around what are usually the largest appliances in the house and somehow make it look beautiful. Today we are taking you on the DIY and design journey as we makeover this space to accommodate a very high tech set of laundry machines, and we are DIY'ing our own Central HVAC system? Thankfully we still manage to work in some color and some creativity with our watercolor stripe peel and stick wallpaper, and a gorgeous apron sink and vintage rug. We also show you how to utilize pre-fabricated cabinets to look custom and high end. Get ready for a big creative journey with an ultimate before and after of interior design goodness.

Yes, I kind of hated Kate complaining about Joey cutting a hole in the ceiling, but it was acting I guess. He’s putting in ac and it IS a utility room.
This is the prettiest laundry room I have seen so far! And considering how difficult it was to design this room, it came out wonderfully! Love how Mr Kate always shows the good and the not so good sides of designing, making the process seem all the more relatable for the rest of us
you need to make a small bench, the same color as the cabinet. put it against the empty wall-say it is somewhere for Moon to sit, but it is for mom to stand on to get to the cabinets

Interior designer here....just popping in to say that, it looks great as usual! As you know, even with tons of experience and having exact measurements, so many factors can end up forcing changes on a project but that satisfying end result is what make all those stressful hiccups seem like nothing but a greater appreciation for the final outcome. I may not get to watch all your videos these days but i truly love all the ones i do and admire you for letting Moon join in on these projects. Its teaching him so many things but you also dont record him intensely or seem to shovea camera in front of his face for views. He is just an added, adorable sweetness to your already great content. Still "secretly" wish I could have you here to do my home (both along side me or as a totally surprise reveal) so I don't have to do it all. Even Interior Designers have a hard time doing their own homes!

I think it turned out great for such a shmall (lol) room !!! And Joey, what an awesome job on the DIY air/heating unit. That was incredible. I love watching you two interact. It really is a humerus yet beautiful thing to see. And little man, Moon has already hit skills and is getting ready to take over the family business! And finally, Kate, you look like you are doing so much better than about a year ago, and that makes my heart happy. Love you guys, too, the Moon and back!!!❤
i was expecting to see disaster at the end, but it really turned out so cute at the end... joey was right, that he has faith on kate ... if she could really pulled out odd shaped rooms in budget in omg we are coming over series. those diy art pieces and wall paper really uplifted a boring room.

You could probably do a fold-down table on the side wall so it's out of the way when not needed and you can pop it up when you need it and you can make it any height you want. The rooms looks lovely.

Yeah I think it makes sense that they're finishing the guest house...that way they can live in that when they do all the main house ... I hope they finish soon cause I been waiting forever for main house to be done hope this year 😂😂😂 they been renovating for like 5yrs it seems

There is one single thing in this room that I would have done differently and that is the color of the cabinets. I love everything else about this room
I agree. I would have gone with a deeper & darker cabinet color, but other than that, it looks great!
Honest video. Thanks for sharing. I’m sure that over time Joey will build some fold-away table that will serve for ironing and folding away the laundry. Doesn’t have to be on the top of those huge machines.

I think that countertop looks to be at an amazing height! 😂 Most standard ones are too low for my liking, opposite problem than Kate. I love how much cupboard space you have in here for all the random bits and pieces that seem to end up in the laundry. Great job as always, and it's so cool to see Moon being able to help more and more and learn new skills with you guys. ❤

Painting the cabinets the same color as the stripes in the wallpaper would totally unify the room! A hassle for sure, but something to consider!❤

I do think those big laundry machines are more designed for stacking one on top of the other. Like you said, putting them side by side ends up with a counter that’s so high most people can’t use it comfortably

My mother was 5’3” & thought that that was too short. One of my close friends is only 4’10”. Now that’s short! Nothing is designed for adults who are that short. I feel for Kate❤️🇨🇦

Kate, you need a step to stand to fold laundry on the counter, one that is strong. Then you can also reach up into the cupboard above.
Its ok. I also need a step to stand on to reach inside my cupboards.

Wondering why you didn't stack the washer/dryer to accommodate a lower counter top. You could akways use a stool to get in the dryer.
my grandparents live on the big island of Hawai'i (Kea'au). the supply issues have always been a huge deal. inventories of ANYTHING are not varied or deep. and tv shows were two weeks behind, then. wonder if that has changed. my grandmother was a seamstress from LA who used to send mom and me the coolest clothes and fabrics. once she moved we got really old inventory type patterns made of fabrics also very passé. if it wasn't some hawaiian print it was pretty awful, actually. hahaha. i remember the day mom and i had to respectfully tell her she could stop sending us clothes either from stores or handmade.

Joey, An HVAC tech told me that a Central a/c rack you up a Power bill according to the (sq ft) it covers..and Not on how you efficient you use them? Like never turning them off/the recommended temp. etc.? I think the Splits type a/c would have saved you alot more money than anything? And they lasts sooo long?🤔 I lived in a double wide Mobile home by myself, and no matter how I would set it, it was always $400.00 a month for my power bill? So I stopped using it, and got me the wall/window insert ones, I know what I'm saying? It is soooo much cheaper for use in a Tropical area like Hawaii/Florida! (Super much cheaper👌)

Omg this pre-fab cabinet stacking thing is GENIUS!!! Can you guys share some tips and tricks on how to re-purpose cabinets that come with a new home into more custom looking ones?? We are moving into our new home soon and the cabinet situation is just weird but the quality of the cabinets is quite good so don’t want to just throw them away!!

I really wish there were cabinet doors that were also picture frames. I detest the blank wall of cabinets look. With picture frames you could easily have a decorative cabinet front that was easy to change. Photographs, art prints, or a mural. Maybe Mr. Kate can design such a cabinet door 😊
