San Marino - Are They the Worst National Team Of All Time? #GOAT
New video about one of the most interesting teams of recent times, San Marino has been struggling to get a single win for years now, however the fans seem to be in love with them, so I went looking for the reason why.
Just imagine being a pro player, in the Premier league and some guy, working in the supermarket scoring by you in less than 10 seconds 😆 I have all the respect for San Marino and their resilience 😀
He can brag to his kids that he score the goal that eliminated England from making the world cup. Not too many people who work in supermarkets can say that. 😄

I remember when Germany played them and won 13-0. Lehmann (the gk) was about to take a penalty and he saw the look on the San Marino goal keeper’s face and didn’t take it. I don’t remember who ended up taking it , but he lehmann ran back to his goal. He felt bad and that was the first time I actually liked Lehmann. ( I was a Bayern/ Kahn fan) but I gained respect for Lehmann that day.
San Marino shows the pure love of football and the love for their country. Imagine having such bad reputation and still go out there pouring your heart out and fight against all odds even if they are against them. It's funny and inspiring at the same time. Message here is never give up when you fail even if you fail almost every time.

As a Latvian, I still remember how we had hard time with San Marino around 2000-2003. That 1-1 draw in 2000 was crazy. Southampton player Pahars scored goal in the 1st minute and we thought the game will end in at least 3-0. We knew about San Marino overall statistics so thought whatever happens we will win this one. Haha, how wrong we were. It really was ''dark'' as media quoted it but since 2010s we have seen much harder times. Faroe are now favorites to us and we regularly play draws with Andora and Gibraltar. While most of Europe is evolving, Baltics and few other post-Soviet states have stagnated.
P.S. 2003 1-0 own goal win against San Marino was crazy as well. Latvians made it to Euro 2004 by the end of qualifying round. By the time of match (autumn 2003), the morale in team was solid. We had won Poland last month and another media-panned 1-1 against San Marino probably would have severely hurt our hopes to qualify.

We won against Moldova for the qualifiers last time, and we almost got a draw against Mother Denmark (which probably would have been a bigger tragedy to Denmark, than you losing to San Marino)

We have however not been doing so well in our group, but Lituania have been doing even worse, and Luxembourg only won because they got a penalty, and we got two red cards. Turkey, however, kicked our and Lituania's ass badly.

Sure, but as they never play these nations it's hard to make comparisons. San Marino only gets to play against other European sides. If they ever qualified for the World Cup finals, it would be a different story. However, there is as much chance of that hapenning as of me being elected president of the United States (I'm not even American!).

you glossed over the ukraine 0 san marino 0 result, which is frankly a superb achievement; the many 1-0 and 2-0 defeats are also all effectively victories against professional teams; i have visited san marino it is a cute mountaintop town, which was sadly ravaged in early days of covid; here's to the memory of all those who were lost to the pandemic and the bravery and determination of each san marino team to stymie the goliaths they must play against; it would be nice to crowd fund a trip to the south pacific, i'm sure they would be competitive out there

They should be playing against teams of their own caliber - a big issue in the Euro/World Cup qualifying. Getting hammered by big teams hasn't helped them one bit but being competitive against similar teams may just be the lift they need. The European qualifying needs sorted it would many of these whipping boys more competitive - a pre qualifying Round
they should be allowed to join a 3rd division league near them.. that way the will play football for a whole season.. and have a chance to improve.. but i think Europe Enjoys having team like this to hammer on... like the miserable performances in Got Talent where people only laugh

@@georgemacpherson1992 The Nations League is essentially a glorified friendly competition. There should be preliminary rounds in Europe for the Euros and World Cup like there is in other confederations where the lowest ranked sides play each other first.

I feel like if they play against country like nepal they can easily win. The amount of experience they get from playing against top giants like Germany, Poland etc is huge. Nepal concedes 7 -8 goals against country like Jordan which ranks 94th in ranking , imagine if they play against Germany it would surely be more than 12 . San Mario only conceding 4-5 goals against these country is quite impressive

I knew that national team would be San Marino but it is one of my favourite respective nations daily and ever in this world and other planets!!!At times,I did mourn for almost all of their defeats but fully hope that their national team would slowly bounce back and start winning their respective matches and move above in their FIFA world ranking,good friends!!!🙏

As a German i am not at all surprised that Germany was the only major country that did not go easy on San Marino. I don't really understand the concern about it it being a pointles match and rising injury tho, i mean yeah, playing against San Marino is pointless outside from having fun (and we dont do that), but why not let the B squad play? You do not have to risk injurys for your main team, im sure the German b squad would also love to win 13 - 0.

Ppl claim GoalKeepers in Brazil league move away from goal line if Branco set kick from penalty or around 16 to 20 meters. Also players afraid to stay in WALL, to protect goal when Branco set free kick to take. China have huge money invested in football they have the biggest population and they groom sportspeople from a young age . They still don’t do as well as other smaller countries like wales .
My wife is from Malta, so I always hope that one day they could, by some unlikely miracle, qualify for a major tournament. I can't ever see it happening but the likes of Finland, Iceland and Albania used to get beaten by high scores all the time and yet, they have all qualified for a major tournament as have Latvia also. It only takes for a good group of players to come together at the same time. Here's hoping. Good luck to San Marino and all the other small nations out there. I always like to see the underdogs spring a surprise every now and then.
Honestly I think international football tournaments should be divided into weight classes like boxing or even like most club leagues. You don’t expect a country of 33,000 people to be competitive or win trophies against nations with populations running into the tens of millions. Everyone should have a chance to win something competing against opponents on their level.
It would be hard because of travel distance a lot of lower skill national teams are in different continents, even expenses would be too much for them

They probably could but they'd be relinquishing their national identity and pride in the process. However, I think they should allow young up-and-coming players who are passionate to represent the nation and have lived in the Republic for a while to play for the national team.

Right now there's like at least 4 to 6 players from San Marino NT playing in Italy. The thing is that all are like playing in Serie C or D. I think the starting goalkeeper was like the only one who managed to played a few games in Serie B.
This is extremely... EXTREMELY Impressive to me... From a country with almost 1.3 billion people.
It's the fact that our national team is just better than them but by not a lot at the current moment that is surprising . I know the struggle of seeing your nation in international sport events.
And while the population is a good enough reason for them, my country can't even say that as a reason. I'm actually optimistic that how the nation is starting to do improvements and all... We got our first ever medal in Olympics athletic department through Neeraj (really proud of him) .

There is many smal countries in Europe, extremely small 😂, that is why people are complaining about Ronaldo goals for his national team. He is scoring lots of goals against this small country's. And Ronaldo fans are counting this goals when they arguing about Messi, and who have scored more goals. But the truth is that Messi is scoring goals against countries like , Brazil, Columbia, Chile, Mexico, USA, Uruguay,.. there is not small country in America, when they play nobody can score 6 or 7 goals, and not to talk about 10 goals 14 goals or 20 goals.
Always been my issue with the English national side, easy to rack up goals against minnows...and even then they still struggle at times lol. So overrated.
