It’s a bummer to get old.. but I’m glad I grew up watching Don Kirshner’s rock concert and the midnight special.. people today will never be able to watch that type of TV again ever… times have changed for the worse
I would be at keg parties where everyone moved to the TV when the shows were on. I saw several bands for the first time on these shows. Also, if your band was on, you didn't miss it.
Funny. Love the song here, though I could see how it could irritate someone who wasn't into it, especially an older boss not into the "hippie scene". 🤭
My band opened up for The Guess Who in 1992, when I was 20 years old. Not really knowing their music and only having heard clips of their songs on the “Freedom Rock” commercials on MTV, I asked their guitar player at sound check, (singing) “These Eyes, these eyes have seen a lot of…”, “seen a lot of what?” And he stopped, looked me dead in the eyes, and said “Smoke.” And kept on walkin’. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
ANOTHER BLAST FROM THE PAST and this time the GUESS WHO pays all due respect to the late great WOLFMAN JACK...And I find it hard to believe that these guys still haven't been inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME...
Both the Guess Who and Bachman Turner overdrive should be in the and roll hall of fame. Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman stated the guess who. Great artists!
I have heard that part of the reason the Guess Who won't be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is because Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman refuse to be on the same stage together. Major animosity there.
@@ihatespam2 He’s not “under appreciated” at all imho. That’s like saying the lame over used “underrated” term we see in comments all~the~time. Peace out.
@@KittyGrizGriz sorry, something “common” automatically makes you say, lame. But I stand by the fact that he does not appear enough or high enough on any of the lists or in general. But maybe you think the public and critics sees him perfectly in context, that’s fine. I don’t.
That was a fun song to hear on the radio as a kid. Burton was in good form here. Cool to see Wolfman Jack doing it live. Just a happy tune from The Guess Who for a Friday!😀
I was about to write this until I saw your comment. Totally agree, my friend. Unfortunately most people don't understand this. It's not just because they like a band that it doesn't make sense. Guess Who, Badfinger and many others were indeed underrated bands. Cheers from Brazil.
@KittyGrizGriz I know. I'm tired of hearing "underrated". It's OVERRATED. The use of that word is overrated and it's used by young people who weren't even around at that time. Sheesh....🙄🤪🤡
Canadian musical perfection live, on the massively popular USA music show Midnight Special. Just like in America, Canadians would stay up late to see one of the only music TV shows available at that time. Canada's Guess Who appeared many times on the show, including this date March 29, 1974 as hosts. Hope to see more Guess Who appearances including this full show where they played: "American Woman," "Star Baby," "These Eyes," "Clap for the Wolfman"" & "Hand Me Down World".
@@thedevilwuster Likewise here. BTW; that's what u call.a POWER BALLAD!!!!! "Stand Tall" just has that rhythm & message that just says "power ballad"..CLASSIC INDEED!!!!!
The line-up here is Burton Cummings (piano, lead vocals), Kurt Winter (guitar), Donnie McDougall (guitar), Bill Wallace (bass) and Garry Peterson (drums). Randy Bachman left the band in 1970, and by this time he was in BTO.
Oh man. I remember this song. I haven't heard it in years. In fact, I forgot about it but I loved it. Wow! Burton Cummings wrote a song just for the Wolfman. How cool is that? Hey, everybody! Rock on.....❤❤❤
As an old ret DJ,,, Let me say,, I miss the days of Radio. Yes that wonderful, colorful medium, that can never be matched. It started it all. The likes of 'Wolman Jack" are the Kings of mixing heart and soul with the music. Some of us still remember,,,,and will always love you Big Brother. Great song Burton!!
Wolfman Jack was my first in person autograph I ever got close to 50 years ago , he was great to meet for a 7 old fan and my younger brother . I eventually lost it after so many times of moving and misplacing stuff over the years
I've watched this how many times? Yea, That many.. LOL.. Awesome song. Awesome Group. AND My main radio idol, Robert Weston Smith AKA Wolfman Jack.. Randy A Carlisle // DJ // KSGV // Seagoville Tx
Wolfman Jack was on WLS Megawatt channel out of Chicago in the 1970s , one of the last before the FCC shut them down, it could be heard all up the East Coast into Canada..😄
I love me some Wolfman... ànd the Guess Who!!! When the Wolfman passed my kids and I drove around in my Chevette listening to a local station playing his radio shows.
Too bad Rundgren wasn't also on this episode...... "Full moon tonight, everything's all right Baby come on back to Wolfman Jack I may miss your loving while I'm on my back But you can't escape from Wolfman Jack You can't do this to me....."
Whenever there's a super moon, and you know what happens, I imagine his funky style of jawin': You think that's a super moon? You should have seen what I saw on the way to the studio! Hey baby, if you're listening, yours deserved a better ride than a Duster! I'm sorry, that was a Gremlin (Geator, hope you guys are knocking one back over there)!
WOLF ❤🎉💯🌞 My QUEEN 💋, ANOTHER FINE LADY, Damn I'm all upset because I didn't know this Lady in 1995 to 2009 , I was an entertainer I would have danced to nothing but Jaguar
Wolfman Jack had been deejaying for a long time by then. Strange---At the time I remember thinking that he was a little old, but now I think he looks so young.
You could tell that Kurt Winter's tenure in the band was rapidly coming to a close, with the rest of the band now wearing polyester button downs and sport coats. The ditch-digger look had simply become passe (at least in the then-evolving world of Burton Cummings and The Guess Who).
It's so hard to hear this song with claps on the 1 and 3. I don't judge my fellow mayo-americans who can't hear the difference, but the song sounds so much more different than when the recording has clapping on the 2 and 4.
Burton Cummings has one of the best voices in Rock & Roll.
such a cool song. What an honor for Wolfman Jack. Its a period piece, really
Wolfman was a one off. Not even AI technology could replicate his voice and style
@@DG-sf9ei Oh he was. I love playing this song on both piano and guitar. Feel like Burt himself singing it.

Burton had one of the most consistently great voices of the time.
Has
Still does.
Lol the Wolfman was so cool!
I worked with a guy in California and he would play this song over and over. Drove the boss nuts. Haven't heard it in about 40 years.
Nice
Lol. Did you work with the Wolfman?
Funny. Love the song here, though I could see how it could irritate someone who wasn't into it, especially an older boss not into the "hippie scene". 🤭
Sure beats listening to grab those old records off the shelf
Love the song and I remember when he would sign off the radio
So thankful to be a part of that Generation, because I was there!
"Clap For The Wolfman" was a top ten hit in the summer of 1974-Fantastic song!
Burton Cummings... terrific singer. One of the best in his generation.
My band opened up for The Guess Who in 1992, when I was 20 years old. Hahaha... he wasn't having it.
If it was 1992 it wasn't the real Guess Who anyway. No Burton Cummings....no Guess Who
Burton Cummings is one of the greatest Canadian rock singers ever. The Guess Who were one of my favorite groups of the late sixties and seventies.

Burton Cummings, classically trained opera singer turned rock and roller.
Burton was not classically trained. He actually dropped out of school at 17 to pursue a music career.

The Guess Who may have been the most sartorially challenged band to ever appear on The Midnight Special
lol
Why
Their outfits are awesome especially the guitar player Kurt Winter’s jeans and t shirt
Randy Bachman far left. One of the greatest musicians EVER !!!
Not sure about that - BTO was going strong in 1974
On the far left is Kurt Winter, not Randy Bachman..
BTO
I have a Wolfman Jack album signed by The Wolfman ! One and only!

Did Todd Rundgren appear on TMS? He recorded "Wolfman Jack". One version of the song featured Wolfman himself.
Todd Rundgren did "Hello It's Me" on the show. Whether he did that song on it is a good question.
I don't think he did "Wolfman Jack". The only other song he did on that episode is "Black Maria".
