- Here are all the Swimming and Drowning Animations for Super Smash Bros Ultimate including All DLC Characters such as Minecraft Steve and Sora. A few characters however take damage when they are swimming such as Sonic who never could swim. This is sorta a cool Easter Egg as they reference their video games for characters who shouldn't go swimming!

I thought it would be more enjoyable to have their reaction more visible which I will be doing for a few other videos as well!

It's honestly a nice detail that the duck swims separately, at least until the dog begins to drown.
It would have made more sense if Dog dragged Duck with him underwater lmao. Desperate to survive only to drag him along.

Why do Bowser, Wario, Bayonetta, Incineroar, Piranha Plant and Steve all look happy about drowning???
Also I love how Enderman doesn’t take damage on water, Zombie doesn’t become Drowned, and a clown cart cannot stay afloat.
(I know Enderman and Zombie are alternate costumes of Steve, but that still make no sense for an average Minecraft player tbh)

The Inklings also take damage in water because in the Splatoon series, they literally die when falling into water.
Charizard is also taking damage because he’s a fire type Pokémon.
Sonic takes damage because he can’t swim in his games and drowns after some time without air bubbles
I think the only time where He kinda swim was in Colors I think.

Like how Charizard, Sonic, Inkling, and Incineroar take damage from the water, I think some characters should have been more adept in the water, having extra speed and time before drowning. Off the top of my head I can think of Squirtle, Greninja, and Toon Link.

if Anyone's wondering why Sonic gets damage in the Water, is because it was just copied and dragged from Incineroar, charizard (who are Fire Pokémons) and Inkling (which makes no sense unless they aren't even Sea creatures who evolved).
You can see the Dedication Sakurai put on Sonic
Plus the fact that all 4 of those characters don’t start swimming like everyone else and instead immediately start to panic as soon as they hit the water. Sonic can’t swim, Incineroar and Charizard are fire Pokémon so water is their weakness and Inklings despite being evolved forms of squids disintegrate when they touch water so naturally in Smash they would start to panic when they suddenly start swimming in a fighting game 😂. Leave it to Sakurai and his team to have the foresight to consider small details like that in their representation of the characters!

When Mario can swim underwater for 8 minutes straight in Super Mario but drowns in 8 seconds in Smash

It would be cool to have an all underwater stage. With air bubbles and such. That you need to collect. But certain characters would be obviously stronger than others. Like MegaMan who is a robot who doesn't have lungs and can stay underwater for hours. Or water type Pokemon for obvious reasons. So yeah that's why swimming is so limited In game.

Such a nice detail that Pyra and Mythra have different animations from each other according to their personality.
I wish swimming could be made a More central mechanic. Maybe a stage like aquarium park from Sonic colors, where you will be very likely to be underwater, could work. Fire Pokemon and inkling would take constant damage in water, but everyone outside of a few would need to get air bubbles to avoid taking massive damage every 3 seconds or so, instead of instantly dying, to make the stage work casually.

No but they really didn't want to make alternate costumes stronger or weaker than another in mostly any scenario. After all zombie doesn't take damage in sunlight.

I thought of a video concept that might be interesting:
How many Smash Bro's Ultimate fighters can use 2 or more Up Specials in the air?
Clarifications:
1. The fighters must not land directly on the stage
2. Any default stage may be used, provided there's no damage or hazard shenanigans (Hyrule ok, Brinstar NOT ok)
3. Walls may be used for clinging, bouncing off of, or hitting
4. Character must have two separate instances of up-special initiation (so Shulk or Cloud's second Up-B input would not count, they would have to start again)
5. Damage is allowed, provided it comes from your own character
6. You can interact with enemies before hand, but not afterward (think Kirby copy ability)

The smash team got it wrong on something Sonic can last a while in the water and there starts to drown if he doesn't have a bubble shield (Source: Sonic 3 and knuckles)
