  • Flutter spoons are AWESOME Summer and Fall baits for targeting bass that are feeding on baitfish. The technique remains a mystery for most anglers but Tim has refined his methods for both rigging and fishing this unique style of spoon. In this video he breaks down all the details to help you become successful with a Flutter Spoon.
Whether you want to throw a small 4" spoon, the standard 6" or the giant Magnum spoons, these tips will help you be more successful. Tim breaks down several different retrieves as well as the rigging you'll need to hook more of your bites.
Below is a breakdown of Tim's favorite spoons. The main difference between brands of spoon is thickness and weight. You'll want to try several of them to experiment with fall rates and figure out if the fish you're targeting prefer a faster or slower fall.

Been fishing flutter spoons for years. This is one of the best spoon rigging and technique videos for numbers I've ever seen!!! And the fastest 16 minutes too lol. I have tons of aggressive spotted bass so I have to use the heaviest spoon possible to get through them and then I barely flip-flop it on the bottom, basically just roll it over, for the big Largemouth. If I flip it up more than a few feet, another aggressive pesky spotted bass on lmao.
The spots annihilate the Shad balls and many of the shad that don't get eaten are actually knocked silly by the spots and either float up and get eaten by the birds or fall to the bottom and get eaten by the Largemouths. I love my hair Jigs this time of the year too but for the cold water Shad die off coming soon I stick to just barely flopping a spoon on the bottom for the big fish.
Excellent video and audio quality Tim. I don't know how it can get any better had no trouble hearing you in the Wind and my phone is a cheap piece of crap...

Great video-Maybe my favorite way to fish Been rigging them as in the video with good success
Recently; I’ve been experimenting with having the swivel 2ft up from the spoon and then tying direct to the split ring. (Main line to swivel, then short 2ft leader of mono to the split ring/spoon). Definitely more flutter and wider, more erratic side to side wobble and still eliminates line twist

Probably have figured something out by now, but if you make the leader some HEAVY fluro (80+ lb test), they have trouble biting through it. Might want to change the leader after a couple of pike, but that way it’s still mostly invisible compared to a steel leader.

I fish spoons from banks or docks all the time over here (Canada). They're mostly used for pike in these parts, but you can honestly catch just about everything. I usually just swap out the trebles for a large siwash hook to prevent hangups, and don't use a stinger hook. You will miss the odd fish, but I rarely suffer break-offs from snags. Just bomb out long casts and use a pull, flutter jigging retrieve like stated in the video.
