Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.
Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

His performance is certainly up to Pollos standards.
his Spanish? not so much.
It is...acceptable.

I like to imagine Lalo’s compliments on Gus’s chicken was actually legitimate and that everyone agrees Gue’s chicken is actually pretty good
I'd *kill* to try his chicken, haha
@@victorochoa3662you're too old to be talking like this
@@mikemorris9902 yes
I think it's both. Can you imagine Gus presiding over a mediocre chicken restaurant? Nor can I.
Gus settles for nothing but perfection. It’s why he went against his gut and worked with Walt. Gale told him his product was the best he’s ever seen and he wanted the best.
"I don't think we're alike at all Mr White."
The power in that statement
I love that line he really brought Walt back down to earth and crushed his ego
If you think about it, it really hurt Gus’s ego more. He was dead set on not revealing himself, but as soon as Walt compares him to himself, Gus immediately reveals himself. Everyone in this universe has an ego. Obviously, Walt’s is the most intense, but Gus has an ego too.
❤well said and well OBSERVED
I love the misleading toys laying around, and his subtle reference to kids not eating the soup. It took me a few watches to notice the subtle hints at manipulating Walt. When Jesse comes for dinner with Gus, I don’t see them anymore. Makes me imagine Gus has a prop library down in his secret basement tunnel lair.
The other possibility is that his backstory wasn’t fully fleshed out and he was initially written as a family man with kids
@@zizoumonk10 Im confident it was intentional and planned by that point. Its very clear how deep he goes to manipulate people. When they made Season 2 Gus wasnt guaranteed to end up as a main antagonist/character for the future so they likely didnt have anything planned there. But Season 3 they definitely had a very good idea what they wanted to do with the character. They planted many threads in Season 3 for Gus' character to expand on them in Season 4 (his dynamic with Hector and the Salamancas, Hector calling him Generalissimo, etc.). Looking closely every toy seems strangely perfectly placed.
I'm pretty sure Gus would be the kind of mastermind to marry and have kids just to keep up appearances.

To think that Hank suspected this guy as a Drug Kingpin. Just look at how polite he is at dealing with regular or bad people.
dealing with regular peoples definitely a red flag 🚩🚩🚩
I don’t think him being polite to bad people is a red flag. It’s how long he sticks with them and even sits with them that is a red flag.
I know the dinner was intended as a gesture of respect, but I always viewed 7:36 as the greatest symbol of it. "Not only do I trust you enough to invite you into my home, but I trust you enough to give you the perfect opportunity to kill me."
Knowing what we know from BCS, that the house is part of a large security complex, I wouldn't doubt that there were men with guns just around the corner
@@aznanimegob True! I imagine that Gus would have been able to stop Walt even if he tried anything at that point anyway. I think it's a pretty powerful manipulation nonetheless
It was a message ‘I didn’t bring you here to kill you so don’t do anything stupid’
4:25 Name Name has to be my favorite episode of all time. I love Name Name.
Gotta say Name Name is a great name name for an episode.
People always say Chicanery or Bagman as their Favourite BCS episode, but I'm more of a Name Name guy myself

4:07 Gus took that as an insult and broke his character..❤️
Yeah love how he exposed himself cause he was offended Walt call them “alike” 😂😂😂
9:31
Walt: it won't change my mind 😒
Gus: 3M
Walt: 👁👄👁

Giancarlo Esposito played this role so well. Amazing performance
Gus had amazing class and impeccable manners while at the same time, managed to not overdo it to the point of appearing fake.
👍
1:20 The twins have Gus so rattled that he tries to sign whatever's on that clipboard using a pen that is upside-down and has the cap on 🤣
I think he realized that as well lol.
Oohh good eye
Animals
The pen was on the right side up. The cap was only slipped-on at the other end of the pen.
Knowing who Gus is, and what he was capable of, his politeness is pretty terrifying. Such a great character, just like everyone in the BB and BCS universe.
Imagine working at a place where strange men are always showing up and the manager never wants to involve the police? Word would spread fast.
Most owners don't wish to contact the police unless absolutely necessary. Even the non drug kingpin owners, as constant police presence causes certain stereotypes about the business. The only time Gus got frustrated with the Salamancas showing up was when Hector came in causing problems. Lalo was extremely polite and seemed like a normal person. The cousins simply just sat there being weird. Seeing as how much Gus invests into the local community and by extension the local PD and DEA members, it would just seem that he doesn't want to waste police time with manners he can handle on his own.
People may just assume they are there to collect "protection money"
4:13 if Gus were not the guy, he would think Walt was mistaking him from someone he met on a gay app
😂😂
Lalo was the only Salamanca who ate at his restaurant
Walt had a soft drink of choice
Hector didn't eat but he did have a drink when he held up the place in season 3 of better call Saul

I love how everyone is like super serious when dealing with Gus, and then we see Lalo who is totally chill and jolly…
I know I love it. Most people that do know Gus know what he is capable of and it’s terrifying to them. And Lalo knows what he is capable of and just does not care because Lalo knows what he is capable of

- Do it... DO. IT.
Absolutely love the way he says it
He went full Palpatine

7:46 foreshadowing to that one scene in the final season
Excellent catch

Everyone has a "tell all" movement, like a poker player with cards. Gus's "tell" is perfectly shown at 4:04. Its his forehead, turning from creased to completely smooth. Someone said it was his eyebrows going from up to down but at 10:27 his eyebrows are up but his forehead is still smooth which is him still being on killer mode.
I love how in virtually all of these interactions each person know it’s all theatre
Well yeah we get to see the main cast interact with him because they know what he's about. Imagine all of his daily interactions off-screen with the unsuspecting population, even the entire DEA believes he's just a junkfood owner. There's also the scene where Saul accidentally meets Gus, and Saul doesn't suspect anything
It’s SCARY how GREAT he is at being two faced! His cold blooded look is DIFFERENT than him just being casual. I don’t know if he came up with that look, or the director, but it gives me CHILLS every time!
This was the compilation where Gus became polite.

What kind of "Gus' Disturbing Politeness" compilation omits "And a man ... a man provides"? No compilation. No compilation at all.
What a SICK JOKE!
Gus carried this show. There is no breaking bad without Gus!
Ive wanted a video like this, without knowing exactly what i wanted.
His excessive politiness is unnerving
There’s absolutely nothing disturbing about Gus’ politeness. I find him to be extremely professional and well-mannered. The people calling his politeness disturbing should be ashamed of themselves, I can’t imagine him hurting a fly! 😤
Well he's a good friend of the DEA after all. A real pillar of the business community!
absolutley stunning preformace by Giancarlo, a complete icon and inspiration
Walt ruined Jrs job prospect. Gus would have probably pushed him up the pyramid fast.
Wait why is it a pyramid?
6:10 I love this little detail that gus is trying to bring Walt jr closer to him so that he can use him as leverage against Walt
5:27 how could you cut Nacho's perfect reaction? D:
😂
6:53 - just noticed: why the f there is a toy car and kids table in Gus' dining room?
Maybe to emotionally manipulate Walt, a family man
I think its funny that the twins sit side by side to each other at Pollos Hermanos.

The sudden change of tone is so eerie
I just binged the Sopranos, and Tony didn't have the makings of a varsity Los Pollos manager...he would have loved the chicken though.
What made Gus terrifying is his calm politeness. Notice the best villains in movies and TV shows are like this. Calm, very little emotions, very few words (all carefully chosen), professional and no emotional outbursts.
What do a chemistry teacher and a fast food restaurant manager have in common?
-Nothing

HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE HIGH ELVES MR WHITE
I love Gus's versatility, the guy looks like. the nicest person you know and at the same time can make a scary face
Interesting to consider that had his standards of perfection not been so extreme he likely would’ve listened to his warning signs to avoid Walter and just had Gale learn the product from Jesse. It still would have been better than what they were doing but he would’ve driven himself nuts always knowing that even if it was better than before they’d never truly master perfection of the best product unless the process was handed down from Walt and his standards that matched those of Gus. The chase of that feeling would be no financial difference between Jesse or Walt but the standards negate that and led to so many problems. Bypassing concerns for the product in general had to have been lucrative to accept the concerns but still fun to ponder that working to bring Walter in was likely the need to meet the highest level of standards possible over being financially motivated since Jesse probably would’ve gotten to the same monetary result.
I'd work for him
The man doesn't want anyone or anything to affect his life!
The way Gus smiles with politeness and when the person is gone, his expression suddenly changes. Like from this😄 to this😒
1:16 That subtle death stare has death incarnate written all over it. With the two cousins its far more pronounced yet with Gus its so subtle and 10x more intimidating.
You have to do a compilation of Lalo being cheerful and nice next because we all know Lalo and Gus both had these FAKE pleasant personalities Lalos real self came out when he killed the couple especially the guy who looked similar to him you can see Lalos fake smile finally going away
Damn hank, Lalo, Walter, Hector, nacho, and Salamanca twins have all interacted with him inside his pollos business cool to see
He could literally live off pollos hermanos easily
Yeah, but then how could he get revenge on Eladio and Hector for Max’s death?

6:32 re-watching this scene after "Better Call Saul" remembering there is a secret entrance tunnel to the house opposite of Gus lol. And that their guys watching on camera to make sure happens to Gus because Walter might do something.
"May I take your hat sir"
I like how he wrote with the back of the pen 😂.
I'll never get why Gus chose the words "do it" in the first scene.
So Walt could put the tracker on his car and he can fool the dea by not driving his car anywhere but to work and back home.
It's a subtle reference to the fact that Gus was allowing Walter to proceed with the act of him "doing it", impeccable writing as per usual by Vince Gilligan.
The fact he wore clothes in this scene when he could have easily been butt naked was genius too. Stunning work from Gilligan @@4N9vxO3WnK
@@abscindingFunny because that only made the DEA even more suspicious that he was hiding something.
@@cooperchance7720You'd think a guy like him would be smart enough to add a few more stops. Could have simply had one of his henchmen do it. Perhaps the writers overlooked this.
I'm a native Spanish speaker and the only thing that bothered me is that his Spanish is so bad that he has no idea what he's saying. He sounds like somebody gave him the syllables to say.

5:27 Gus:(Are you kidding me Nacho?)
Nacho:(Not my fault he's like this.)
He is more scary than Dark Vader or the Easter Bunny 😮
I treat my customers in a special way at work. Not for them, for me.
Gus has a Grinch smile
It appears that the chicken is actually good, i mean as i recall there is no one in the series ever complained about the taste, so if only Gus just operates the chain like he really means it, it actually going to be a profitable business
I think it's funny that there must've been Karen customers demanding to speak to the manager at Pollos Hermanos, not realising how much mortal danger they are putting themselves into.
Theft error
I don't necessarily think it was his politeness that was disturbing or so scary. It was his uncanny ability to turn it on and off at a moment's notice pending the situation that he was in. He used it as a partial cover up and a partial way to get into the heads of his enemies.
