  • In the United States, more than 75,000 children develop sepsis each year. Sepsis accounts for 100,000 pediatric emergency department visits each year, with nearly 20% of children treated for septic shock arriving in the emergency department via ambulance.
First responders are on the frontlines of sepsis recognition and early treatment and need to know the signs and symptoms of sepsis and how to initiate treatment in pediatric patients.
Share this video with your colleagues, patients, and loved ones to ensure they know the signs and symptoms of pediatric sepsis. This video includes a reenactment of an EMS response to a pediatric sepsis case and expert commentary on sepsis in pediatric patients.

I had sepsis in 2013, on a ventilator for 33 days. Blood clot to my large intestine cause gangrene. Every system failed. Heart failure, right lung collapsed, Renal failure. I had emergency surgery to remove all but 18 inches of large intestine, colostomy. Had seizure and stroke affected right side and my speech.
I was not expected to survive, but with prayers and God I did. I had renal dialysis. Comprehensive rehabilitation. I learned how to walk and talk again. I had home health RN, PT, and ST. 8 months later I had the colostomy reversed. My kidneys are at 50%. I am a million dollar miracle. I had a team of very specialize doctors who took Care of me. Some I had worked with for years as and RN and my primary doctor who I had worked on the floor with and he had been my doctor for 20 years.
Thank God for allowing people to have the intelligence to become doctors and specialize in certain fields.

You are definitely correct! Any nurse wouldn’t of discovered that. The nurse probably would’ve said go back to class and maybe told the mother to put cream on it or told the child to put some kind of anti-itch cream on it. I hope the child is OK; it sounds like he will be. I hate hearing stories of kids who don’t make it. So sad

My 10 year old daughter developed sepsis the day after she had her tonsils and adenoids out October 6, 2023 she was 9. Brought her to my rural MN small town ER and they did abdomen X-rays for no reason and sent us home and by the grace of God I knew she was severely ill so drove nearly an hour away to a big bigger towns hospital and they almost sent us home as well but her health declined so quick right beforehand and ended up needing to be transported via ambulance to a bigger city’s hospital pediatric intensive care unit for a week and two days after getting home from that, she had her incisions in her throat hemorrhaging so sent back to that big hospital PICU for several more days. When we got home from the 2nd hospitalization we came home to dozens of handmade cards in my mailbox from all of her 4th grade classmates. It was absolutely heartwarming. I was afraid I was going to lose her.

While being treated his systems were shutting down from the poisoning. Then he was turning around when I contracted sepsis and that was it. It was just his time I guess.

It can be hard to diagnose because there is no “test”. A lactic acid level is only one clue. Otherwise there’s nothing definitive. There isn’t always a definitive outside source of infection like a wound.

This actress aka school nurse is way to happy and smiling for something that would make 98%of nurses panic and worrying.. increased pulse rate.. nurses would say pt. Is tachy, fever/elevated temp and hypotension with increased resp of 30 breaths per min etc

According to the credits the actress is also a nurse. Personally I found her portrayal believable - often people can appear very composed under stress when they have a job to do, and especially when they are trying to help a patient remain calm. I thought the whole video was incredibly valuable.

I'm at high risk of sepsis because I'm immunal compromised due to the covid vaccines and contracting covid. I also have allergies
A few years ago during the covid19 pandemic I ended up in the ED due to a bacterial infection I'm from the United Kingdom where hot weather is a rarity I used hair removal cream on my legs it was the apply, wait for so many minutes and remove
I didn't realise that I had an allergic reaction to the hair removal cream after I removed the cream
As I used a wash cloth to remove the cream from my legs, I felt my legs burn and itch as it was very hot I didn't notice that I had a slight temperature because in the United Kingdom whenever it gets hot it becomes really hot
As it was hot, I felt a bit drowsy as hot weather in the United Kingdom is a rarity
My leg then became red, hot to the touch, swollen and very itchy I was then advised to go to the ED at the ED I explained my symptoms and due to the situation believed that I had covid
But I didn't have covid I had contact dermatitis a form of ezema due to a chemical allergic reaction to the hair removal cream. The contact dermatitis had became infected so I was prescribed antibiotics for a week to clear up the infection and with the help of my anti histamines I stopped feeling itchy I was lucky to not have ended up with sepsis but a mild bacterial skin infection due to an allergy
