Oda is a masterful writer. Another detail I’d like to point out is when Luffy was about to use Gatling, Lucci used a single finger like in Enies Lobby before quickly switching to his whole fist. He knew the same trick wouldn’t work on this new matured Luffy

I never understood why people said Gear 5 can’t be serious. We find it hilarious because we’re not the ones staring down someone who can distort the world like this, all the while giggling like a mad man. That reflection in Lucci’s eyes is what Kaido and Lucci saw Gear 5 to be, and that’s a scary picture.
It's the most ridiculous power in the world, i think that toei looks for Making gear 5 a super sayian thing, but the power comes from joy and Freedom

Every time he awakens G5 his haki runs wild and all throughout the environment so his DF branches out and affects more than just himself
That fake out by playing the 123-1234 melody multiple times to trick you into expecting it, then doing 123 and cutting to silence is one of the coldest "you are out of your depth" moments I've ever seen.
They really do a great job with the gear 5 scenes. It's one of those things that could be SO easy to screw up the portrayal of, but they manage to convey just how utterly TERRIFYING this form is.
The way they make gear 5 look so goofy and terrifying especially at 1:25 at the same time is amazing

1:25 I love this moment. The way Luffy is portraited subverts every fight we saw until now. Then, we saw a man struggling in front of adversities and overcoming them every time through sheer willpower. Now, it's the other way around. His enemies are facing an emperor of the sea, a true monster among men.

His mastery of haki and his devil fruit awakening has put him on another level. Not many now can match up with luffy. You'd have to catch him off gaurd which even that would be tough to do considering his observation haki is amazing too

Yeah, the animation reflects Nika’s personality and the awakened Zoan taking over. It’s overflowing with creativity as it has just been reawakened, but the serious laugh once he stares into Lucci’s eyes is perfect. He stops making the ground around him rubbery and hones in on his target. Same way Lucci is depicted to be a crazy animal at some parts of the episode. For certain frames Lucci loses his mind to his awakening

I just like how Luffy’s power up is so much different from any other anime. You don’t have the typical screaming or charging up pose most shows have, he laughs and jumps around in joy while powering up.

I for one don't like it. Goofiness aside, the cool thing about luffy was how he has been at a disadvantage most of the times. but in truth he possessed the most OP fruit the entire time. The big 3 really loved to picture the MC as the underdog and then give them the most insane powers of the verse, One piece was the exception but alas all roads lead to Rome.

I grew up obsessed with Trickster gods. I read all the stories from myths from all over the world. The chaotic deities that flipped the world on its head for S&Gs. Luffy’s laugh before he launched Lucci across the map reminded me of how I’d imagined Coyote laughing at whatever poor sod managed to offend him. Those guys usually ended up less than happy.

Everybody talks about Gear 5, but I can 't believe I live long enough to witness Rob Lucci as a recurring character in anime instead of being a one-off character.
I don’t watch this anime, but I really admire the animation. Easily the best I’ve ever seen

Not to mention the bouncing. Lucci momentum is not allowed to slow down on the ground or find purchase on the ground. The only cushioning he gets is the hard building behinds him.
As someone stated in a video, you don't mess with Luffy's friends or Luffy's food, and Lucci just literally wrecked someone who Luffy saw as a friend just because she provided some food for them.
