@@monkeydkong3399Were it any other man with his same powers in this position, they’d probably have resorted to drinking in order to try and deal with Luffy’s antics well before this point…but Kaido’s doing this Gear 5 fight sober for now. Much as I love a good curb stomp like with Gear 2 vs. Blueno or Gear 4 vs. Doffy whenever it was active, it’s nice to see someone who’s able to somewhat keep up with a new gear shift without any potentially (and self-inflicted in the case of Katakuri) debilitating injuries holding them back (remember Lucci’s legs got broken when he took that first Gigant Pistol head-on; he was fighting on borrowed time from that point on).
I love that whenever luffy is cast in shadow for a brief second, his eyes are glowing red. I find that so awesome, it’s almost like a reminder that while his power is ridiculous, it should also still be feared because it’s so unpredictable and powerful

I think it's related to being charged with CoC, as shown in previous fights like Roger vs Whitebeard. When their eyes blink red it's because they activate CoC

The fact that some people cant appreciate how cool and creative this is feels absurd. He is grabbing lighting and thowing it, he is treating it like a trampoline, hes swinging on it like a jungle gym. He's using mountains like a spring board.
My favorite comments are from non One Piece fans/ watchers who love this fight. They are rare, but they do exist.

Maybe we've gotten too zealous with one show being the best and being apart of the fan club to make yourself feel better about pouring time and energy into a franchise.

It's a nice change from other anime where any new form immediately overwhelms the opponent. Hell, Luffy has done that before in the story.

This is like, the perfect depiction of G5, the best the studio has done so far. Luffy feels on model, the emphasis on the red eyes in zoomed out and shaded shots sells him being this type of uncontrollable, menacing force while keeping him goofy and fun with the bouncing and rubbery movements

I love watching Kaido slowly accepting his opponent's prowess more and more as the fight goes on. At first, he thought Gear 5 was absolutely ridiculous. Now, he is slowly letting himself have more fun as he fights against Nika's powers as he sees just how powerful they are.
To be fair, Gear 5 would probably be one of the most fun abilities to fight against ever. Even if your losing, I still feel like it would be a blast.

1:15 I'm loving that they show Kaido making use of the rubberized ground to launch himself at Luffy after he started swinging on the lightning. Explains his huge bursts of speed too
I don't think the ground is rubberized, I think it's visually representing the high speed Kaido is moving at. The ground is rippling from the force of Kaido's impact, and he is leaping away before we see it shatter. Like a slow motion shot of someone being slapped in the face.

Go to 1:20 and watch at .25x speed. From the moment Kaido lands the ground ripples and then bounces him away after a moment

I think it is a shockwave traveling through the ground from Kaido landing and then pushing off, and we see it moving so fluidly as a visual cue that Kaido is moving at incredible speed, so fast that near-instantaneous events like shockwaves through stone can be broken down and perceived step-by-step.

The amount of love put into these animations is so incredible. Every week of this luffy kaido fight i end up rewatching the main bits at .25 speed and finding amazing small details like the sun symbol appearing in luffy’s lightning paths for example. I love this show so much

Imagine Enel and luffy teaming up, they are both op on their own, but together they would be busted.
The most absurd thing about it is that Kaido is not the final villain, nor can we imagine how far One Piece can go.
whats amazing is Oda is a really clever writer that manages to draw out power creep by creating conflict that isnt just dependant on raw power, like in marineford.

Yea I have watched this episode 3 times to really digest how absolutely batshit insane this power up is. My personal favorite part is 1:07 where it shows luffy (from Kaidos POV) is literally just a flashing beaming of light bouncing all over the stage at this point…. Really encapsulates how crazy gear 5 is and how it’s actually kind of terrifying if you really put yourself in Kaidos shoes….

Dude this is just insane, luffy literally bending light from his speed, its like he became a particle accelerator for a breif moment here lol.
I think he just makes the lighting made of rubber when he touches it, and when he moves away it turns back to normal. That's why he grabbed it before but when he launched it on kaido it was back to normal

Well, Kaido has been like a Dark Souls boss to him, considering he won more than once.
Kaido sure has lived up to the hype. The guy has fought nearly non-stop all night long against some of the strongest fighters in the New Order, even his own daughter, and is now fighting the closest thing that the setting currently has to a genuine GOD, and he's still going strong despite his clear exhaustion. It's gonna take that island sized fist to finally bring him down because if it doesn't, they were just never meant to win!
And to top it off, he's holding up the whole island of Onigashima. Kaido really is the strongest. Luffy wouldn't be able to beat him if he was at full strength.
Luffy needs some credit too. He just awakened and because of that probably doesn't even fully grasp his powers. Kaido probably has never had to fight like this 1v1 vs someone.

I adored Luffy's glowing red eyes when he was in shadow. As silly as this form is, he's genuinely terrifying with his power and unpredictability
I absolutely adore the shots where they show Luffy and he has those ominous red eyes,(those red circles).
Luffy is out here using lightning to maneuver around the area ,he is too much right now, Luffy is Him.
That was my favorite moment. The build up to it was just perfect
It reminded me of the moment in MHA when Deku is just a looming shadow with glowing eyes when he KOs Overhaul.

I love how throughout this fight the flashes of red eyes demonstrate that while what is happening may seem goofy and absurd, it is also quite terrifying and deadly.

They let Luffy do so much cool stuff with lightning. I loved it.
I love the fact that Luffy's eyes become red as if to show that he's kinda scary at this point, form Kaido's POV.
Luffy is now a God of Freedom, and Kaido is a tyrant, he is inherently his enemy, so Kaido is seeing him for what he is, his opposing force.
Yh at this point I will say kaido is kinda convinced that luffy is joy boy and that he is destined to be defeated by him but he still fights to deny that

Couldn't agree more. The dude is a literal monster and he is getting the fight he wanted and its absurd even in his eyes
hardly even a gamble, kaido couldve easily dodged the attack but chose not to cause something like it is exactly what he wanted. He doesnt want a concrete win but a good fight and luffy gave him exactly that

Luffy doesn't even seem like he's bothering to dodge Kaido anymore besides for comedic effect, and it makes me wonder if Kaido's even hurting him at this point.

Nah hes taking damage but not much, luffy is hurting kaido more than kaido is hurting him.
Luffy seems to have mega toon force resistance in this state. Like getting blown up and just shaking the ash and being fine. But his body amd energy levels are still getting hurt. Cause after this fight hes down for like a week
he's hurting him.. but not much at all, he can take attacks now that would be lethal to him before directly to the face.
Since zoan devil fruit awakenings make the user more animalistic I think this is making it harder for luffy to concentrate on deploying observation haki as he hasn't mastered gear 5, which is why he isn't able to dodge however this isn't a problem since he is able reduce the impact of haki coated attacks with his awakened body
I’ve watched and followed plenty of anime in my life. I’m not a casual watcher but not too obsessed with this genre either. However, Oda really made something here. Something great. Something amazing. Watching Luffy let loose against Kaido with such light-hearted fierceness that makes you smile but not forget the seriousness of what’s at stake is so hard to accomplish. Yet here we are enjoying the fruit of Oda’s labor. AND HE’S JUST STARTING!
people who dunk on gear 5 for being too silly just dont understand one piece. Its a one of a kind series by a creator who truly enjoyed making and forging every bit of it. We may never get a series quite like it

The best part is that it's a pretty clever idea when you stop to think that electricity goes straight through Kaido's scales so he actually takes damage.
He has little to no options of grounding the electricity mid-air so it's no suprise that he does take damage here.

I wanted to be vague because when it comes to stare-and-gawk, it's nearly the original sinner of it and thusly the obvious choice, to the point where even stating what it was would be redundant and insulting to everyone's intellect and experience reading this comment. It's like saying two plus two equals four, you don't ask why unless you're in the single digits of age and even then, you only ask it once. Also didn't want to state it because a lot of DragonBall Z fans are insane diehard fans of it, where any insult to it sets them off. It's a goddamn Sacred Cow practically and considering how much it was a part of so many people's childhoods, I don't blame them.
It is hyperbole because he clearly can't do anything he wants. If it were actually true, Kaido would have been beaten in the first interaction. Luffy would have just willed the result that he wanted, but he clearly can't do that.

I just loved Kaidos taking over with his theme music, felt like a tribute to this absolute monster..

Probably one if not the better episode of the entire wano arc. Animation is incredible beyond movie level, story is perfectly told and everything ties together as one in that final punch. I dare to say it is THE best episode in a battle anime after some peaks in hokuto no ken I ever saw.

@@forty27Naruto vs pain, albeit had some of the most unique storyboards and animation to date, the sequences in this episode were simply just better in compositing, fx, and slightly better in overall animation. Vincent chansard is simply a generational talent much like Yutapon.
