How to wallpaper around a window, the tricky little bit!
This video shows the method and sequence i use to wallpaper around window reveals and in particlar the small insert which is used to fill in after trimming the full length.
The question i get asked frequently is how this is done?
I am using a plain lining paper hung vertically for the purpose of this demonstration! and of course realize that when using a pattern wallpaper that this would need to be matched .
the idea was to use this situation where the walls were a bright orange colour and that this would and does show up well on film. - Jak na to + styl

Better and cleaner ways to do this....than this way!
Then put up a video 😂😂😂
It's fine for lining paper. Although I lap the other way so the light doesn't hit the edge of the paper. Also, if it's thick lining paper or if I'm painting directly over it, then I will sand the edge once dry with a bit of fine sandpaper. 👍🏼
Love this. No fancy, inticing tunes to say look at me. 'Just' a proffesional at work. Let's get on with business here...
Decorating is the most overlooked, underated and underpaid trade! But it's for the people...
Thank you very much for posting mate, this is the embodiment of 'Let there be light', in the past many skilled tradesmen and artisans would have taken their knowledge base to the grave, is important that knowledge and skills are kept alive, no doubt yours will live forever on youtube, the kids will get of their phones and put up a nice feature wall instead.
Thank you Alister what a lovely comment that’s very kind ! You’ve made my day
regards Phil 😀
This is the best out of all of them on utube. This man just gets on with it, no waffle, so no distractions. Makes it look simple, but not sure about that as have not attempted to do this yet but starting the wallpapering tomorrow. thanks very much
Nicely done. Made it look simple and straightforward. No fuss.
Cheers for that Jim, Great video and more importantly, straight to the point. 👍
you make it look so easy, great work
quite beautiful! good job!
Nice, you make it look so easy. I tried that for 2 hours today, just one strip, nightmare. I've ripped it off and it's time to call in the cavalry!
These demo videos sure do bring out the " I know better" brigade.
Don't i know it !
Instone09ine it's nothing personal I used to do it the same way and when someone showed me the way it should be done I found out that there is a much better way where there is no overlap
You couldn't possibly be a professional wallpaper hanger
Ever heard of splicing? That's the correct method ;)
Need to splice that in for a seamless job
Very good, thank you.
good drills mate
We Love wallpapering, less chatting nice to see another decorating channel
Hi nice to hear from you . I see your channel has some useful content for decorators, i have subbed to you😊
Have young video showing how to do it with patterned paper please?
Damn... You make it look so easy..
Fair one, craftsman at work there like the pros make it look like child’s play. I deffinately would’ve been raging by now and scrapped six rolls of paper haha
I used to have a foreman who carried on like that!😊
Master Craftsman.
I learnt this when I was ten years old from my dad.
Thanks i like how you did the edge of the window
Thanks Gloria 😊
Thanks for the video, great help👍 probably the best and simplest I've seen for beginners or people who aren't fully confident with the intricate parts of papering, the splicing method would need a bit of practice with spare paper in my opinion.
Thank you so much for your kind thoughtful comment William you’ve made my day 😀
Let's have positive comments....theres always more than one way to do something. Whatever suits is fine by me. Good job. Kerp them coming. In a perfectionist but having said that , I'm no expert so as far as I'm concerned I do what works for m x
Loved the music 🎵 and the verbal instructions where spot on.
Overlap adhesive is a good thing to use at this point.
thankyou for sharing, you made it look so easy x
You’re welcome Kathy and thank you !
Just watched your monday magic vid and subscribed. more please. The time is right😉
@@Instone09ine thankyou so much, I really needed to hear that. I have wondered if I'm making a difference. There are more on my Bright Flower Therapies page on Facebook, I didn't upload them all to youtube as I was still learning how to do it all. I gave up last May when I experienced a break-up but your comment has helped. Back to work lol. Keep up with the good work yourself x
@@kathymaslowskibrightflower9638 Your very welcome Kathy. once you had relaxed you made some very good strong points . Dont worry about stumbling it's cute! I will have a look at your facebook videos too😊
@@Instone09ine Thankyou, I appreciate that and am grateful for any comments/advice x
I love this :)
Thank you Robyn for that you get a free love heart ❤️
good!video!thank you! japanese wallpaper youtuber
You shouldn't overlap as you will always see the cut best way to do it is to splice the piece in
Jake Weller correct
There is always a "i know better " brigade.
whatever works for you. Always nasty decorators on youtube slagging others off.. ffs, we should be being supportive and helpful, painters should stick together! we're decorators, need to be classy, and amazing. not pissing yobs.
@@MephProduction LOL. we need to be classy. We're decorators not yacht club members 😁
Great but how would you do pattern paper
Spot on. Bet you're English? No fuss just watch. Have you seen how much the yanks talk in their "how to" vids?
How refreshing
Jim Tomlinson Thanks for the comment, yes i am English i find its easier to edit videos without commentary :)
Jim Tomlinson LOL
there is a way to put a little bit of pv glue on just to give it that extra stick with over lap like on corners with returns. great way though ,i have watched some where they splice but not always the way . this way is quicker and better imo .
U should never overlap come on this aint right
No overlap with paper, never, except when duble- cutting, splicing.
not the professional way to go about it bit he stuck underneath will always show up
Good video but can you show us how you would do the same for patterned paper
Certainly Jay! i think thats a very good idea my friend. Thanks for the suggestion. Ive got better cameras now too!
Have a good day and take care😊
Why do you go from a razor blade to scissors
And is the paper wet when you're cutting it with the blade? When I do it, it drags sometimes
good paper and a sharp blade, pull it tight and it wont drag.
garethmurt me too.can't get away with a knife
The dragging is down to a dull blade on your knife. Needs to be razor sharp.
MephProduction agree! If your blade is sharp, and it drags and makes pizza slices of your edge, I have found that the paper is just too wet or not quality.
thanks for posting . . but the the most crucial bit at the end was covered by picture links to your other videos. Bad form really
Sorry about that Darryl will sort that out, thanks for the heads up!
hahahahaha brilliant thx!
hi what are u using to score the paper
Hi Desmond it is an Olfa blade😊
All very well using plain paper, but how do I do it with patterned paper
freddie budd you have to use the same technique but you have to match the pattern. its a little trickier but im sure you can to it x
Wouldnt it be better to splice the 2 pieces?
That's exactly how I do it... It's all good that on blank paper but if the window ain't true then on patterned paper it would not work correctly.. Splicing 2 together by far the better way IMO 😎
Hi this is not wallpaper it's lining !!so there is a difference between wallpaper and lining paper??
Any kind od paper going on a wall is called WALLPAPER
I've been paper hanging for 30 years and that is the most amateurish way possible to paper around a window reveal.
ffuter show us how, then!
If your so good then why are you wasting time by watching a demonstration video?
Shouldnt you be out there earning money showing off your skills?
Maybe your all talk.
ffuter you been hanging wallpaper for 30 years? so why would you be on here in the first place? Picking up tips
ive been wallpapering for 30 minutes and this is amatuerish u should see mine its upside down and its only lining paper 😂 why would a p&d with 30 years be watching these kinda videos
I mean... He's using freaking scissors and the first edge he cut wasv all jagged... My OCD was not having it. Plus there's no pattern, so...
Great video but wouldn’t be able to do this with patterned wallpaper.
Yes you would, you just need to match the pattern
wish someone would help me I'm doing brick wallpaper and I've never done it
Just the job. Maybe good to do another video of the same except with a pattern match?
Marc Gray Hi i will do a pattern paper, this vid just shows the order of things.
Top man. I've done a lot of decorating in the past few years. I work in property maintenance but favour decorating... All I've have learnt has been from decorators on site and off youtube... Old man can't afford me to miss days off working for him to go to college haha!
he as over lap the paper not good!.
Well I'm certainly not a troll, I have 37 years as a painter and decorator and that is definitely not how it should be done, he has overlapped when it should have been a double cut
Ave been decorating for 50 year double cutting wasn't done then you always had an overlap maybe it the quality of the wallpaper one of my jobs was to trim the wallpaper
@@williamgorman893 I used to overlap it but as you say you couldn't double cut wallpaper years ago we would overlap away from the light or a feathered in tear for the likes of woodchip, I've retired now not because I wanted to I'm only 55 arthritis in my spine but I miss it but mainly miss the money
@@georgecclifford8235 sorry to hear that such a young age hope your feeling well am still going strong fingers crossed
@@williamgorman893 yes I'm happy to be honest thank you
@@georgecclifford8235 glad to hear that that's the main thing love the buzz of leaving a good job if I can work till am 70 am happy
Why does everyone wallpaper inside the window frame, having a nice transition from wall to frame is a better reveal to the outside, and creates a brighter opening, ugh.
Got to admit , i dont like this method because you can see the thickness of the paper underneath. Splicing is near on perfect
Just hang a long horizontal piece a long the full length of the wall then just splice the horizontal drops 🤷♂️
Oh. so that's good you do it. ta
*how
Nice to see something going over those god awful orange and purple colours,,,, but in my experiance a lepoard never changes it's spots,,, I dread to think!
I'm sorry but a proper decorator wouldn't have a TRICKY little bit. you would splice the wallpaper above the window and take the whole piece round. i don't want to be rude but this is a lazy demo
not need with this type of paper, it wont show.. not if you're a proper decorator anyway.
That don't work with pattern paper
Yes, it does. You just have to match the pattern in the recess to the wall area above it.
If your gonner do a video like this do it with a paper that has a match not lining paper any muppet can do that !
No sound
i can add some music if you want, what would you like?
Lol
Not right way to do it and I've done the right way for 56 years
Ever heard of talking 😂😂
The idea was correct but should not have overlapped ,he should have spliced it instead.
Patterned wallpaper dude NOT...easy white lol
WRONG !!!
Why
Because when the paper dries it shrinks and you'll see the rapped paper underneath. When painted that edge gonna be vizible. With patterned paper this is NOT going to work, it is not the way to do it. And mate, don't show off with lining paper...
Don't need this kind of advice
😃
Bad
Thank you 😊
Amateurish,
Shocking papering totally wring way to do it , why doesn't he double cut / splice it , will always be seen with what he done , plus he should have used a knife aswell instead of scissors
Diy not...... Mr knowhow says terrible advice
This is not the right way....there's 3 better.
Tell us then ,3 better ways
