Great.. What I do is with that type of pattern is I work off two rolls at once.. To reduce the wastage so like one roll would be an even roll and one roll would be an odd role then you don't have to waste so much to match the pattern.
Spot on. Defo need skill and patience with wallpapering. Everyone says they can wallpaper but doing it in someone’s house for £120-160 a day is a different story. When I did my apprenticeship I could only learn at college. Me being a typical young teenager didn’t take much interest in it because I got told I would never need to do it by the company was working for. 15 years on work for myself and wallpapering is starting to come into fashion have to turn jobs away because don’t want to risk it. Wish I had of paid attention at college now 😂

Well I just shrunk and took a deep breath.. three days it took me working around people still working.... thankfully it got passed. Then I had to go round lots of jobs putting the wallpaper right... gives you a lot of confidence. I was thrown in at the deep end but luckily I knew how to swim... thanks
I was scratching my head working out what part of a room you were working on then until you moved the camera at the end.🤣. Looked good in the end as it was clear to see how far it was out from the overlap.
Great to see an old school Scouse painter and decorator I remember being on site down Dingle way years ago in the 80s to be precise painting the new builds great watching and seeing you using the old school approach. I still use the edge of the scissors to mark the ceiling line rather than use Stanley blade as I find the blade can go blunt and drag the paper which annoys me. Ain't done this work as a trade for years but am toying with the idea of doing small domestic jobs again.

Thanks for these videos really helping me out. Have you done one about papering around an external corner as well as I cant find anything anywhere. I am about to approach an external after papering around an internal using your method I plumbed a line and its really straight I thought I would ask you would you just come around the corner or would you come round by 5 - 10 mm then overlap slightly then match right up to the edge of the corner and use border adhesive. I am using a pattern paper but its a marble looking pattern not large pattern. Do you think its best to measure up to the corner from my last line then add 10 mm, bring it around the corner then match up the cut ( there is a light switch involved as I come around as well but another story there). Wallpaper measures 530mm it could wrap around the corner and do the light switch but would it be hard to do. What would be the best option its doing me head in !!
Thank you... not sure I've done one on external corners yet. But your paper needs to be plum.. allow paper to go around corner then make sure edge is plum... sometimes this can leave small bubbles up the corner... nothing you can do generally.... your lucky if your corner is straight.
Thanks for reply we tackled it in the end and in general were really pleased for a first attempt at wallpapering. We had to overcome light switches x 2 Double plug x 2 , bathroom fan switch two internal two external corners and a burglar corner sensor and two door frames all on one wall 😢😢You made it look so easy we took ages 😂 and nearly divorced. Only real error is I can see a tiny 1mm overlap now partly down the seam but we can’t do anything now as it’s dried overnight which is only thing that’s stopping me celebrating. At least we saved £90 thanks for taking time to share your knowledge I know how hard it can be to keep updating these videos. Well done true pro all the best to you 👍 so hard to cut paper with a craft knife as well kept catching and ripping even using a metal edge that’s really annoying as well.

I’m guessing then you always start in a corner to be able to plum line both bits but what’s happens on the 2nd or more corners if papering a whole room? You could end up with a small strip? Am I being stupid or is it just a case of trying even harder to match it up? I feel like I should send you a crate of beer or bottle of wine to say thanks. Both of you that is
The really is only one technique of hanging wallpaper... and to answer the rest you only need a tape-measure... get your paper follow instructions.... sorted

I wish to lay something myself, but got no clue how to measure and lay.
Get yourself a laser level, your methods are old , spatulas are ok as long as there are no nibs etc as the brush wooden part can sometimes hit the wall when the bristles collapse, especially when losing grip, or a clean low pile or sponge roller is good too, just don't press too hard , you dont need to tbh
You're wrong why waste money on a laser. I bought one and don't use it because it's rubbish for decorating. Also never use a spatula if you want a professional job doing. Not old methods just correct methods. You will learn eventually that new ideas are just to sell products. Thanks

Regarding spatula to flatten paper etc i always use now & as long as there smooth on edge & plastic it's perfect, did a job yesterday that way, much better, the wooden part of the brush can sometimes catch paper if not careful, never happened to me but can happen , the spatula also pushes out any bubbling in paper as it sits completely flat on surface unlike bristles which are individual, 38yrs exp & counting, each to there own but your methods are old & you wont beat a laser level for straight lines fact
I like this video… I guess I am one of those amateurs however that does not “break the back “of those wallpapers by rolling it backwards… I seem to be always in a rush and I simply find that such a process unnecessarily consumes precious time but, I do like it how do you roll it up backwards and it does not roll up on you on the table
You make excellent videos. If you had used the spirit level you can draw your lines quicker and you wouldn’t have had to mark the wall twice, 😉. Spirit levels are a pain though, your tripping and kicking them around your work space all day.
That has to be the biggest paste brush I have ever seen. What make is it, it covers the paper really well. That's for another informative video. I have used a few of your tips which have work out well even if I do say so myself. Keep the video's coming.
@@totemtommy so what you saying hang paper lob sided to match pattern send rest of wall out would look pissed or do as in video lose pattern into corner so the whole new wall looks straight is the only way the pattern carnt be spliced to look right because of the pattern ask any man who does this on a regular basis its always the big picture you would be working to try hanging a wide splice match when things run out at 1000+ a roll haha

Why don't you show people how to cut the whole length/sheet of paper to go round corners, there is no way you can expect to go round a whole room using that technique, you'll have to be splicing like mad otherwise.
Wouldn't like to be staring at that paper in the living room after a few glasses of something!

I have always used a paint roller to put my paste on. You get the same smooth finish every time and its very quick.
Yes I just like using my flat brush... also think a flat brush applies a better layer of paste especially on edges of the paper.
Horses for courses, but I prefer a brush. I find it soaks the paste into the paper especially when working with a heavy paper like anaglypta

You always check first around the room to see how it fits. Using a roll of paper check the drops.

It's good and better for certain papers and conditions. But I do use paste you mix yourself a lot of the time.
You need to wear same bib and brace as bro for continuity but i like your tips and ideas
My bib and brace are at work so I had to used some old ones.
