Brother, it's a shame you have helped over a thousand people, and only have 9 likes! Awesome video, and great commentary!
David Coyle Jr. You don’t know how much I appreciate what you just said
I really appreciate that David
I’m really digging the real time unedited tutorials rather than the three minute videos that show a whole room being done. This is more authentic, gives more of a sense of the work it takes to get the job done. I’m grateful of the information you’re giving out for free! Your passion for work really shines through.
Wow. Such a nice observation and compliment!!!!
You would probably learn more from one of those 3 minute videos you refer to 😅
How so? So far, I’ve learned planning, prepping, and troubleshooting. So far, Spencer’s videos have answered questions I didn’t even think to ask.
I’m a professional decorator, this is not how you paper around a window. This can be done with one splice. I would have had that corner done in a fraction of the time.
Jason Joyce
I have 5 other videos on this task Jason. If you had ZERO paper left, with no other matching paper left to do the splice, wouldn’t you do it like this ?
Not even an argument, as a professional, I’d know how many rolls I’d need to complete the job in the first place.
Jason Joyce, we should have had your all-knowing, amazing talent there when I did this video so that you could make this video and make $19 every time someone likes you makes a know-it-all comment and helps make my video the 4th most popular wallpaper-around-a-window sill video on CZcams. Please comment on all my others so that i can get $20 a comment. My strategy is quite brilliant, eh?
I rest my case, you have no academic experience and you’re just on here for the money
Jason Joyce
I would love to hire you; I would pay you a fraction of the price I got for the job
Brilliant job. Meticulous and thoughtful, thanks for sharing.
I'm from the UK, I was taught at college to work in metric, which I do for full lengths, but I'm of the 'age' to measure and cut in inches, but I can still manage to cut it wrong. Love your channel by the way.👍👍👍
VULGAR. THANK YOU!!!!! This technique in this video is NOT the way I do it normally. I would have removed this video were it not for the help it gives my channel. I have At least 10 other covering this issue.
I love the brits.
The other people get wrong at the start is doing a diagonal cut from the external corner...then end up with two triangles missing, one on the reveal and one under the head wall...
I teach this in the uk and there are so many things that have a baring on the best way of tackling it.
Id love to put clips up, but I ain't got a clue where to start
Good video brother.
Been doing it in a different way that i really wasnt happy with. Thanks for taking the time to make this video, much appreciated. 👍
Nice video, I'm a uk decorator, it's always good to watch other people hang paper, it's surprising what you can learn by observing, like how you overlap and cut, not seen many of my coworkers use that technique, I learned that 30 or so years ago from a great paper hanger, he used to make it look so simple.
Here i go again,,,if there is a kak handed long way to do it,,your the man
Lol. Brother I have told 100 people on this video to look in the description of the video and you will see several other links to my other videos that show you how to do it the conventional way; nobody reads anymore

Excellent technique . Thank you. I just completed a job and should have watched your video for better finish. The spacious pattern saved the job
Thank you so much for making this video, I've been really struggling to enen start my wallpapering project because of the bloomin window but your explanation helped so much I can't wait to get on with it now! You're like the Bob Ross of wallpapering! 😁👍

Tampa Marketing Guys Thank you very much for your comment
You would be a great teacher for a young apprentice! You would be so informative and patient. You would be a dream to work with. I will be following more of your videos!
I’ve learned so much from you about wallpaper. I’ve done my 1/2 bath and I am now doing my dining room. I wish you had a “how to patch large drywall pieces” as I have to replace a 2x2ft section in my bathroom ceiling…

Seriously one of the best how to videos I've ever watched. I love how you said ask God and He will help you b/c He wants you to succeed in your projects and make your clients happy!! Amazing! I hit Subscribe when you said that. And towards the end of your video I said this seems complicated and difficult and in that moment you said, you can do it....it's going to be beautiful...don't give up. So encouraging! I can do this with God's help! Thanks for some great how to videos. I'm gonna get started on my project now!🤎
I got a kick out of “you gotta do it” Educational and entertaining. 👍🏽👍🏽
Hi Spencer, the way I do it is that I splice from the ceiling to the corner of the window so it's just the one cut using a straight edge. This means I'm not patching in little peices on both the side and top reveals of the window. I suppose we all do things differently but as long as the end result looks good, then all is well and good. Cheers.
Please click on the video description and see all the videos that show how to do this procedure conventionally: this is not the regular easy to do it. Granted: but I show many other videos on how to do it regularly.
@@spencercolgan Ok, my mistake, I didn't read the description before watching the video. Cheers.
I see what you were trying to achieve but i feel like I'm going to mess mine up with all that cutting. Great work and a sprinkle of enthusiasm
Hi Spencer, Big fan of your videos. You have been a great help in showing me the correct way of hanging wallpaper. That’s for all the points.
Jeremy, thank you so much! Please do not hang your wallpaper the way I show in this video; this is an anomaly, that is, the procedure I use in this video shows you how to do this when you have no Wallpaper left and you are scrapping or scraping the bottom of the barrel as my customer ran out of Wallpaper; but if you look in the description of this video, you will see other videos that I link that show you how to do it in the most conventional manner, in fact, here is my most recent I did several days ago this past week.

Who knew I’d get such wonderful tutorial from a Saprano-lol. His accent kept me very engaged
Spencer, I sure wish you lived in MA. I have a few rooms I would love wallpapered😄 GREAT JOB👍
Great job Sr
Wow you are so enthusiastic ! Have you tried putting a sheet over the top and splicing ?
Thank you very much - the woman had very little Wallpaper left and this was the quickest and easiest way to do it without buying a new Roll of wallpaper
czcams.com/video/DFc2mFVFi40/video.html
Can you add adhesive to stubborn peel and stick wallpaper to make it stay better? What’s your advice for peel and stick wall paper that keeps coming off
Another good thing i was taught is to size all the edges, corners and around switches ect. (SIZE-ING) Basically means brush and roll around those areas with a very thin coat of your glue. It helps the paper be tacky when installing in those stubborn areas where the paper tends to role when dries. Hope this helps.
Exactly ! I also use tacky glue on those areas you mentioned. Excellent work you do I’m sure.

p.s. I remember back in the 70s wallpapering my bedroom with my sister with (embarrassed to say) calico wallpaper and we would even wallpaper the light switches LOL.

What about the top bit ? Thank’s for the video, i’m a decorator too, got the same sort of method when comes to windows but still missing the top bit, really curios how you get that matching...

Thank you for your comment although I don’t understand what you mean - please explain I thought that I covered everything in the video but perhaps I did not - I would be glad to help you

Just cut the wallpaper above the point above the window about 2 inches and then piece a new piece in and bring it around that corner just above the window and then toward the window
czcams.com/video/rdzZXhpxWiE/video.html
Do you put polly filler or clauk decorator around the window fram or door frame after u put up wall paper
No. Never.

We always watch your vids here at work.
Thought you might as well know they call you ‘the ‘Ridley Scott’ of decorators.
Because of your perfectionist approach.

And we consult your vids all the time.
With respect......from Northern Ireland.
Do you hurt me when my brother John; thank you so much for such kind words but please do not look at this video like it is the way to go about this task; I have literally five other videos as the result of this one on CZcams they will demonstrate how to do this properly; this was done this way in this video because the woman had very little wallpaper. Please CZcams my name and wallpaper around a window to see how I suggest to you to do it and thank you for such kind words.

Thanks for that Spencer, Ignore the little people, just like School, we never liked it when young, now we wished we had paid more attention, God bless America and the UK, bad choice of wallpaper though
Or just splice a new top piece in to wrap underneath
Thank you am putting off doing a small wall in brick. It has a window. Great job.

Thank you so so much; so many people have criticised me in this video but let me explain:
1. I had a terrible cold; I did not feel well.
2. I was interrupted multiple times as I did not know how to edit videos that got interrupted.
3. As I listen to myself; I don’t sound very nice. I’m normally not that agitated but I thank you so so much Maz!!!

Do you always paste the wall or do you prefer paste the paper ?????
Hi Spencer is they any other way to hang up wallpaper around the window apart from this way?

Enjoy and please look at the description of this video that you watched here a month ago, it has several other links to the way one would go about this conventionally. This was an anomaly because they run out of paper.
Holy shit I did this exact same technique just moments ago (only I did is slightly better), great minds think alike sir. I came here to see if there was an alternate solution just out of curiosity. For sure I did not see this coming. FYI, I never wall papered in my life.
czcams.com/video/rdzZXhpxWiE/video.html
If you look in the description of the video above that you have already watched, you will see several other things to do at the conventional way; here is the latest:
czcams.com/video/rdzZXhpxWiE/video.html
Such a challenge. I'm good at wallpapering but currently on my second attempt of a window. I can't slice wallpaper like that though. I pencil mark and cut on the pasting table.
I love the way he talks to the camera like, you can tell he's really passionate about it
Blaze up on some Kush and get crafting. Great looking paper.
Absolutely
Excellent and entertaining!.. Thank-you buddy
What glue do you use?
Roman. 880. Dynamite 234
Good way to deal with a mistake we all make mistakes
Good Job Spencer!!!
When I slice my wallpaper it ends up snagging and ripping how do you get it so perfect when slicing with a blade is the paper wet when you slice the paper ?
Answer: it may be your wallpaper quality, may not be you. However, if your wallpaper is poor quality...bring the angle of your blade as you cut, lower, closer to the cutting action--this permits your blade to use more blade and cuts better consequently.
Also....pasting the wall or the paper relies heavily on manufacturing guidelines...we sometimes use prudential judgment as hangers regarding “dry hanging....” ie to paste the wall, not the paper.
Hope this helps.
@@spencercolgan thank you so much yes this has helped so much feel more confident now to carry on with the wallpaper in living room also this video has been a dream to watch as I have a window wall to do also…. You are amazing at what you do shame I live in the uk or I would hire you 🙂🙂🙂
@@spencercolgan also is it too late to get bubbles out of the wallpaper once it has dried???
@@Itzzara4 ! Please go to the video description and you will see several of my other videos on this technique. This one in this video is when you’re running low on paper. It’s not conventional. It is consequential. Please do make your life easier and watch at least one on the others offered in the scrip of the video here.
Would that be the same process for plain paper?i always struggle with windows when it comes to papering
no; non-pattern wallpaper is a different procedure.
lol where’s the customer? In the basement haha
well done Spencer , big respect from London England
Such kind words! I have now 5 or more of wallpapering Around a Window robert. Thank you for your comment. What a lot of nay sayers in this video didn’t realize is that I had no wallpaper left and so I used what I had to do the splice. The conventional method however is to have. A full piece from ceiling to window if possible.
What do you do if your brush is bigger than the pot ?
Trim your brush
2nd video of yours Ive watched and you have made a total arse of it,,, IM gone

Here’s one of many others I’ve done. I ran out of paper in this video.
You look like the love child of Matt Damon and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And the voice of the child of Dennis hopper and Christopher walken
Sounds like that tweaker from breaking bad
I use literally all the roll if its a big pattern its a bit more tricky but doable don't want to waste use all offcuts.
czcams.com/video/rdzZXhpxWiE/video.html
Why not just leave the other wallpaer on top instead of trimming & removing? WOuld that do any damage?
This video was sending me to sleep it kinda drags on a bit
22mins to hang one piece of paper,
Did you care to ask me if I am disabled?
What is he selling
I thought I was in the market on one of the stalls
That respected wall paper guy from Jersey, was that the same guy that did a job for Carmela Soprano?
Jim Parodi
Close your eyes. It sounds like Christopher Walken is giving you directions.
you made that real complicated. trim neat to the top edge, wrap the right side all the wall in in one. then find the match to the under side reveal. butt up the edges and seam roller them tight, it's a short piece no one will see it and normally you'll have a curtain hang on a window.
You just hurt my brain so confusing

I've been painting and decorating for 30 years this man is a bluffer don't do his way. He would charge you a fortune just talking.
Bad workman blames his tools (or lack of paper) 20mins of life ill never get back
Ahh here there has to be an easier way then that,il let you know how I get on😉
Please read the description of this video. This is NOT the way to do it. The description has a dozen videos showing you how to do it right. If only you would watch.
Showed my painting and decorating instructor this video and he said if he catches any of his students using glue of any sort on wall paper we would fail the corse.
That’s wonderful now tell your instructor to engage in the art of reading; read the details of the description of the video and I suggest that you do it too because a lot of you cowboys out there do not read and I suggest that you do so before you make such a remark
I wasn't trying to be funny.. I was just saying what what was said to me.
@@666wilf I hear you! The only reason I leave this video up is because it draws a ton of traffic to my website but in the description of the video I make it absolutely clear that this is not the best way of going about wallpapering around a window I have at least 10 other videos on the subject which show the most conventional and easy to follow directions. But nobody reads, everybody’s acrylic including your supervisor
Oh dear lol .maybe us in the Uk should come out there and show u cowboys how to hang paper , 😂
Mark. I have written so many comments that this is not the way to do it conventionally; nonetheless still draws the most criticism of any of my videos and I have literally 15 videos on how to wallpaper around the window… Just humour me please in CZcams my name and how to hang a wallpaper around a window so that you can see that I can do it as good as you can
I do it differently, where you made the first cut 1and a half inches down from the reveal I would cut it tight along the reveal and then fold and splice a piece up over the reveal. And you'd only have one piece to splice love your videos by the way
David, thank you very much for your comment. I contemplated last year taking this video down because this is not how we typically hang wallpaper over window reveals, as you know! I left it up because it has several thousand views and drives a lot of traffic to my website on CZcams. However in the comments below I told several of my viewers to look at the half dozen other window reveal videos I did since I produced this video. I appreciate your patience with me, the customer ran out of Wallpaper, this was a last resort and that is why the title of the video tries to explain to. To the pro that this is not the typical way to do this.
@@spencercolgan I didn't read the title properly my bad 👍
That’s one of the way how to do it around window but it took Spencer20 min just to hang one sheet.... Guys if you want to do easier and faster just watch Aubrey Absolute Decorating.
nice! wallpaper video♪ my japan DIY CZcamsr 「sigeoyazi」
Totally wrong, you should cut a 1cm horizontal cut above reveal edge into corner so you can fold around right side reveal, you then put a second full piece up top left, you then go back to the original 1st top above reveal cut it in half & splice a new half piece in & fold it underneath, about 20 mins work max, sick of seeing chancers talk bollocks & completely wronge, you need a sponge, a straight edge & a seam roller to, the only thing you got right is use a plastic smoother all be it looked like a dough surface scrapper not a caulking board. No offence sorry.
Read the title of this video and check all of the other links to other videos that are done according to orthodoxy; before you speak, your have to check your facts
I abhor wallpaper. I am now trying to get rid of the wallpaper that is on my walls. I will never wallpaper walls again, ever.
I don't care what any decorator Says we all have different ways of hanging wallpaper I've been decorating for 30 years this is not the way I would do it.
Brian, for the 65 time READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS VIDEO AND ITS DETSILS
"You can't stop the blade once you've started, you've gotta keep going"
* Stops blade *
This is so awkward. 22 mins to hang a sheet and prob another 10 for the top piece . 2 window and a door in a room that has a reveal. that's 3 hours for 6 sheets.
I appreciate what your trying to achieve here but I'm afraid it's just not right. You can't be splicing everywhere. Only when you really need to.
It's 22 minutes because he EXPLAINS it for you, dickhead.
Just difficult to see with little lighting
Their is another way that takes much less time and work. It involves busting a seam rather than piecing it in.
czcams.com/video/DFc2mFVFi40/video.html. See this one.

Spencer Colgan Wallpaper & Painting I am being sarcastic when I say I wouldn't let you pay per my garden shed never mind papering around my living room window
You must be charging your customer an absolute fortune
John Hunter why do you say that? I did the video in order to do a demonstration and I was working with scrap material with very little left over.
