Come join our large family as we share what life looks like in a small town in the southern United States. We live in a double wide mobile home on a one acre homestead and share our way of living here with you. We're raising babies, chickens, and food and sharing it all with you.

@@OurSmallTownLife My family has moved to Cullman area recently. We fled from Birmingham. We have a three family compound and are loving it. Only complaint are the roads. My dad said you can have high taxes or better roads.

Just found your channel. I am hooked. I’m from Tuscaloosa (Roll Tide). Grew up in Hale county, Greensboro. My brother and I picked blackberries as well. Just baby hardly find any these days where they use to be plentiful. Just went to Homecoming at a country church and took my 99 yr old mother. What a blessing to see her little feet tapping and her hands clapping.

Blackberry pickin brings back lots of memories for me, especially how I always got eaten alive by chiggers. I love blackberry cobbler. Used to when I was young, on decoration day we had dinner on the grounds and everybody would work and cleanup around the gravestones. Then everybody would have a picnic together on the ground. Good memories. Bless your sweet family.

I love the good ole southern gospel music. You just can’t beat it.
Glad to see the tradition of decoration is being carried on in Cullman County. We still decorate in the church cemetery where most of my mother’s ancestors are buried in Franklin County, but they don’t do the dinner on the grounds and such like they used to.
The old time religion singing brings so many wonderful memories of my younger days!!! Thank you!!
Hey y’all from the looks of them long needle pines yall gotta be mid to south Alabama lol I’m in Georgia lol I’ve been pickin blackberries at my off grid cabin if I don’t gettem the bears will they love em my place is in the Cohutta wilderness in the middle of nowhere lol the Chattahoochee national forest I love it there I can’t wait till I retire in two years I’m gonna be there permanently God Blessed me with that little heaven on earth place till I go live with Him 😀Amen

This is how we live in Hatton (North Alabama). Decoration is taken seriously around here. I love our slower times and southern traditions the older I become. I’m hoping my children appreciate our small town as they grow older as well. I went away for twenty years and came back home to raise my children.

I have decoration the next two Sunday's. Always enjoy seeing everyone and we have "dinner on the ground" which always has so much great food and fellowship. The crowds have thinned down so much in the last 25 years. It is sad to see our mountain tradition dying out. Hope ya'll have a great week and God bless!

This is the first time I’m seeing your channel, where in Alabama do you live? I’m down here in Mobile, little city of Semmes, my husband is from Greenville Alabama, we love the country life, he bought his granddaddy’s 100 acre place along with his daddy, we loved going up and staying in the country as we called it, pond fishing, blackberry picking, moving cows around, hunting. Now our son has our part and he takes his kids up to do the same, good country living!

I would always spend a week with my grandparents who lived in southern Missouri, and pick blackberries so granny could make the best blackberry cobbler ever..such great memories.

I loved listening to the gospel music. I was raised in an Assembly of God church, and my parents were members at the time of their home goings. I go to a Grace church now where my daughter and her family attend. We went to a lot of gospel signings when I was a child, and I can still picture my Mama clapping her hands along with the music.

I adore being raised in the SOUTH. We get some bad connotations here. If you're Black, you were a slave. If you're White, you were a klan member. Couldn't that be possible in any area of this Country?. This is because of some movies and or silly folks. But for some reason, they've given both to the South
Having lived on the West Coast...Los Angeles, California and the East Coast.. Boston, Massachusetts. I can personally say, you can find silly people EVERYWHERE!!! At least we seem to be more genuine in the South about our feelings. And when it comes to HARDWORK!! The Southern Folks is the epitome of that kind of work... unapologetically
Here people are so respectful too. Where else can you be 23 and have men and women twice your age saying "yes ma'am or no ma'am" when answering you.
Or complete strangers coming up to you to inquire "Who's your folks?" Simply because you look like "so and so peoples"
Not to mention being called "sugar, baby, honey sweet heart and precious," by them just being kind.
Yes. We quickly returned home. I wanted my children rsised in the South tye County part. And, those other places are good for those who enjoy living there. But for me.. give me the dirt roads, the weekend tubing, the fish fries, the barbecues, the peach ice cream on the side or front porch, the men during butchering seasons, the women during canning season,, the children playing tag. Okay, yes I adore the Country South. I appreciate it all. But my heart is in the Country South. May it never CHANGE.

Picking blackberry for a cobbler then jelly. I'm 80 done those things all my life wouldn't take anything for it. Decoration for our family is always Mother’s Day. My husband grew up in the same area but never experienced it. The first time he ever went he thought it was so odd that we set up chairs under a shade tree and basically had a family reunion swapping stories about our loved ones who have passed. It’s a tradition that I love 💜

Decoration Sunday!!❤ I am from the SE corner of Alabama and no one down here has a clue what that means, but I have a ton of relatives in the Cullman area so I spent my childhood with the family loading up to head to Cullman the first Sunday in May for Decoration Sunday and family reunions. What fun memories!!!

Loved SO many things in this video. Would love to find a place where you could pick wild berries. I planted blackberry bushes last year and this year will be my first year to get any. They are loaded and I can't wait. I don't really go fishing anymore, but it all looked so peaceful!

Do you wear snake boots while picking blackberries? I picked blackberries as a child but they were super fat. I lived in NC at the time. (Daddy in the service). Hello really starting to follow your channel. Decoration Day at church is a southern thing I believe. We sing in a Southern Gospel group for 35 yrs now with my husband and others. My parents and grandparents had a group so that's all I know lol. Daddy was a Southern Baptist preacher. Mom played the piano. We had a singing yesterday. No Homecoming today. Kinda slows down in the hot months. Look forward to following you more often now! We sing every song you posted lol thanks for sharing the clips of them. They have good harmony.

It's super easy. Just brown some ham and fry potatoes and add cream of mushroom and sour cream.

Makes me homesick for Skyline AL (where my mom's family lives). Especially the old time Gospel music. My family goes to a Holiness church and they sing that kind of music too.
