  • Our garden is starting to come alive with fresh vegetables that are ready to be harvested. This week we are digging up our potatoes and garlic and preserving them so we have enough to carry us well out of the growing season.

I am chuckling at the difference in living where you get rain, and where you don’t. In So CA, we don’t. I wash produce in a pot, and then quickly rinse. I just can’t bear to let the water run. And all the fresh water from cooking…I would be dumping out on a dry spot in the lawn. I am probably an extremist when it comes to water conservation, but to me it is literally liquid gold. The garlic preservation are called garlic pucks…and it works beautifully. Good video. Love the light coming thru your kitchen window at the end of the day!

Fortunately, in MO we typically get a lot of rain. We are careful to manage our pastures so that we can capture all the rain because the last few summers got really dry for our region. So far this has been a really wet summer.
