  • Welcome to our High Desert Homestead where we inspire the dreamers to make big plans in small spaces! We have lived in four different U.S. States over the past eight years. In that time I learned to cook from scratch, bake with sourdough, and grow gardens wherever we lived. I grew blueberry bushes at a rental where I couldn’t “garden,” I grew tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, beets, radishes and flowers on our apartment balcony, I grew herb gardens in sunny window sills, and began my journey towards growing our homestead on our one acre property here in the high desert.
Let’s learn and grow together wherever we are on our homestead journey!

Hi there, I'm watching your video from Ancaster in canada 🇨🇦. I'm a single father raising two kids, I was always dream to do what you doing with your family. I'm from Brazil I live in Canada for the past 36 years. I been think to go back, and start my small farm in Brazil. But not is easy is look. Especially when I have two kids growing up over here in Canada. For me it is to cold, and the time, and the climate not allowing to growing things the way I would like too. Congratulations fir all you doing, and get the kids 💯 percent involve. I will continue to watching your videos. God bless you, and your entire family. Rogerio from Ancaster in canada 🇨🇦.

You can always start now. Grow one thing that handles cold well. In a pot! I grew gardens in pots for many years before we could afford a piece of land. My kids loved it then too.

I love how your whole family is involved in building your homestead. I can't wait to see your garden grow. I live in SW Florida zone 9b. I started my garden in 2022. Yes, it is a lot of hard work. Today, I have tropical fruit trees and 15 raised beds. I'm going to be 69 this month, and I did this all by myself. The rewards of growing your own food are worth it, plus I love it. I wish I could have done this when I was your age. Happy gardening and homesteading.

I remember helping my Dad prepping the garden. That was back in the late 60's and early 70's. We had soil that was stripped of the good top soil when the housing area was created. We also raised chickens and the rich soil around the chicken coop was the best compost.. BTW - I forgot if you are maintaining a compost pile?

Looks like you are finally into the growing season. I applaud you folks for turning that high desert type of environment into something that will be a blessing to your family giving you some good healthy results. My tomato plants are all growing many tomatoes and waiting for my squash and cucumbers to start setting something from all the blossoms they are producing. Looking forward to see your bountiful harvest in the near future both in the garden and with your growing flock of chickens and your colony of rabbits which will help provide you with some good beneficial fertilizer for your garden and the eggs and meat for the family. I remember when I was in high school so many decades ago that I raised some rabbits, chickens and had a couple of sheep and the hardest part for me was when it was time to harvest them.

From SCRATCH? Scratch means FROM NOTHING. You unloaded tools & seed from the mini van. You had a mini van. You had a house to move into.
The land was bare but you had resources. FROM SCRATCH means you had no resources.
