I was about to spend $300+ this weekend to replace my garage door opener, then thought, maybe I should search CZcams and get reviews on homekit openers first. Nice device and good installation video Rey. Thanks for sharing.
    I’ve just had a new garage door installed and have a fob attached to the windscreen in each of our vehicles. They work okay but if my door motor is compatible with this device and available in Europe, it’s a done deal.

      Ryan That’s totally in the plan. My neighbor has a belt motor and when I’m in his garage, I’m impressed by just how quiet his opener is compared to mine. Thanks for watching!

    • @Ryan-ru2fm
      @Ryan-ru2fm Před 4 lety +1

      Rey G absolutely. We have a 2 1/2 car garage with 2 separate doors. The upstairs is above the garage as well. So belt motors were a must for us when we have to replace doors and motors due to the old ones breaking. They are silent from the outside and minimal sound while in the garage. The upstairs has a tiny hum when opening or closing but that’s only if you are listening for it. Doing anything that takes attention away we don’t notice. The thing you hear most is the engine of the car coming in. We are planning to eventually get Tesla’s. Just think how silent that will be. Also, opt to get insulated garage doors. Keeps temps perfect all year round!

    • @ReyG_HKSH
      @ReyG_HKSH  Před 4 lety +1

      @@Ryan-ru2fm I think we're on the same page in more ways than one. Also planning on getting a Tesla Y once the standard range is available since it's closer to being within our budget. Probably do all that at around the same time, belt driven openers, Tesla charger and car, hopefully next year!

    • @Ryan-ru2fm
      @Ryan-ru2fm Před 4 lety +2

      Rey G We are planning to get Teslas eventually. I think sooner rather than later. I lost my job in IT due to COVID-19. So Teslas will have to wait. I agree about the standard trade Model Y being the one we would like to get for our “ family car”. I could do either a model 3 or model Y for myself. In a couple weeks we are having the Solar provider who is licensed to install Tesla products come out to our house and give quotes. If the price is right, we might go with the Solar if it’s around the same for our monthly bill. We are also getting quoted for Tesla Powerwalls as well. If we get Tesla cars, we will definitely get in home chargers.

I just purchased two new Liftmaster openers w/WiFi integrated and was pretty bummed to see I still need the bridge to enable HomeKit support. Thank you! Unfortunately I found this:
      The 888LM control panel is not compatible with commercial door or gate operators or other brands of residential door operators. It is designed to work with Chamberlain manufactured residential garage door openers made from 1998 to present.
      So while this particular controller may not work for your usage I did find this link which may be helpful: support.liftmaster.com/articles/How_To/GATE-CDO-How-to-identify-gate-and-commercial-door-operators-compatible-with-MyQ-technology-1480440751101

Looking at 'MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener Chamberlain MYQ-G0301 - Wireless & Wi-Fi enabled Garage Hub with Smartphone Control' on Amazon, it says it is compatible with Liftmaster with yellow, purple, orange/red, or green learn buttons. • @ReyG_HKSH

      The 888LM is really just for older non-MyQ garage openers. If your garage opener is already MyQ then you’d only need the MyQ Homebridge to expose it to HomeKit. You’ll be able to name the 2 different doors individually so you could request Siri to open one or the other. Thanks for watching!

    Works great with all the homekit automatisation rules (ex. Coming home).
    Works with any Already installed garage opener and Every cheap one. 😉

      Meredith Paige I’m guessing you want the garage to open when arriving home? The quick answer is no. The long answer is it will but you’ll need it authenticate that action on an iOS device, through either TouchID or FaceID. There is also a workaround but I feel it compromises security for convenience. If you’d like to learn the work around, look for Brad Cohen’s comment in this section. Thanks for watching and good luck!👍

    Awesome information, but...are you getting paid by the minute? 5 minutes to open the boxes! 3 minutes to hook up two wires? I’ll be old before I get to the end!

    MyQ don't they charge a subscription fee?

      HomeKit does not require a subscription fee. Other platforms may require a fee. Thanks for watching!

    Did you subscribe to the $10 a month MyQ in order to have Siri voice command your open/close the door? And will this work one controller with multi doors? Will it work with Alexa or Google Home?

      The MyQ HomeBridge is specifically for HomeKit and there is no fee to use Siri. I believe the other MyQ accessories work with Google Home via IFTTT (don’t hold me to that) via a monthly fee. I don’t think there is a solution yet for Alexa from Chamberlain but it might be a good idea to contact their support.

    Would have been nice if you told people what they needed to do if they have other color program buttons on their doors...

      theniffs The 888LM that is essential to this solution is compatible with openers manufactured since 1998 with a red, orange, or purple learn button. If your opener has another color then this solution likely won’t work for you and you’d just need to purchase a newer MyQ compatible opener along with the MyQ Homebridge.

      Actually you are incorrect, I do not need to buy a whole new opener (I did research) I have a chamberlin that is new (2017) but it has a yellow button (yay for cheap builder?). I just need to purchase a myq smart hub, then I will also purchase a myq bridge to work with my liftmaster gate opener, these devices will let me do the exact same thing and open both my garage door and my gate at the same time and I will even setup geofencing (something you didnt even cover which is pretty lame that you didnt). The opener as is works with homelink (program your built in buttons in your car).

      The solution discussed here is specifically for older garage doors and requires use of the 888LM. It’s great you found a solution for your situation which is obviously beyond the scope of this content. Cheers!

      My point is you could do a little more research and make your content much more useful to a much wider audience.

    Oh lord - please learn how to record with some brevity! You ramble on and on far too much. I do not need to see you open a box, for instance. Think about what you are going to say, and write out a basic script before you hit the record button. There is an informative video in here, but I have already clicked away because I got bored. I am sorry to sound harsh, but I am being honest and am trying to give you well-meant advice.
