- Though some fake historians try to project Aurangzeb as some kind of benevolent ruler but in reality, he was a religious bigot and tyrant of the highest order. We can refer to Jadunath Sarkar's translation of 'Akhbarat' to know truth about the atrocities committed by Aurangzeb on Hindus. The moment he sat on the throne; he started his extremist agenda by issuing orders to demolish Hindu temples. A clear reference is available which proves beyond any doubt that he ordered the demolition of Kashi Vishwanath temple as well as Keshav Rai temple in Mathura. His religious bigotry was boundless, the cruellest examples of it can be seen in the way he murdered Shambhu ji, son of Shivaji and ordered his men to fill his head with hay and display it in public. In the similar fashion, he tortured Sikh Guru Teg Bahadur ji and got him executed. To convert Hindus, he imposed Jajiya on them. During his reign thousands of Hindu/Jain temples were desecrated. The broken 'murtis' were laid on the steps of mosques to insult Hindus. Some people with vested interests are trying to project a softer image of him but he was an extremely intolerant ruler who left no opportunity to harass Hindus and convert them to Islam.

The _Akhbarat_ chronicles compiled by a Mughal officer Mustad Khan who was a contemporary of Aurangzeb has the list of temple destructions in detail. Here is a sample:
25 May 1679: ‘Khan-i-Jahan Bahadur returned from Jodhpur after demolishing its temples,
and bringing with himself several cart-loads of idols. The Emperor ordered that the idols, which were mostly of gold, silver, brass, copper or stone and adorned with jewels, should be cast in the quadrangle of the Court and under the steps of the Jama Mosque for being trodden upon.’
January-February 1680: ‘The grand temple in front of the Maharana’s mansion (at
Udaipur) - one of the wonderful buildings of the age, which had cost the infidels much money - was destroyed and its images broken.’
‘On 24 January the Emperor went to view the lake Udaisagar and ordered all the three temples on its banks to be pulled down.’
‘On 29 January Hasan Ali Khan reported that 172 other temples in the environs of Udaipur had been demolished.’
‘On 22 February the Emperor went to look at Chitor, and by his order the 63 temples of the place were destroyed.’
10 August 1680: ‘Abu Turab returned to Court and reported that he had pulled down 66
temples in Amber’.
2 August 1680: ‘Temple of Someshwar in western Mewar ordered to be
destroyed.’
September 1687: ‘On the capture of Golkonda, the Emperor appointed Abdur Rahim
Khan as Censor of the city of Haidarabad with orders to put down infidel practices and (heretical) innovations and destroy the temples and build mosques on their sites.’
Circa 1690: Instances of Aurangzeb’s temple destruction at Ellora, Trimbaakeshwar,
Narsinghpur (foiled by snakes, scorpions and other poisonous insects), Pandharpur, Jejuri (foiled by the deity) and Yavat (Bhuleshwar) are given by K.N. Sane in Varshik Iribritta for Shaka 1838, pp. 133-135.
1693: ‘The Emperor ordered the destruction of the Hateshwar temple at Vadnagar, the
special guardian of the Nagar Brahmans.’
3rd April 1694: ‘The Emperor learnt from a secret news-writer of Delhi that in
Jaisinghpura Bairagis used to worship idols, and that the Censor on hearing of it had gone there, arrested Sri Krishna Bairagi and taken him with 15 idols away to his house; then the Rajputs had assembled, flocked to the Censor’s house, wounded three footmen of the Censor and tried to seize the Censor himself; so that the latter set the Bairagi free and sent the copper idols to the local subahdar.’
Middle of 1698: ‘Hamid-ud-din Khan Bahadur who had been deputed to destroy the
temple of Bijapur and build a mosque (there), returned to Court after carrying the order out and was praised by the Emperor.’
‘The demolition of a temple is possible at any time, as it cannot walk away from its place.’
- Aurangzeb to Zullfiqar Khan and Mughal Khan.
‘The houses of this country (Maharashtra) are exceedingly strong and built solely of stone
and iron. The hatchet-men of the Government in the course of my marching do not get sufficient strength and power (i.e., time) to destroy and raze the temples of the infidels that meet the eye on the way. You should appoint an orthodox inspector (daroga) who may afterwards destroy them at leisure and dig up their foundations.’ - Aurangzeb to Ruhullah Khan in Kalimat-i-Aurangzib.
1 January 1705: ‘The Emperor, summoning Muhammad Khalil and Khidmat Rai, the
darogha of hatchet-men…., ordered them to demolish the temple of Pandharpur, and to take the butchers of the camp there and slaughter cows in the temple…. It was done.’

As a Sindhi I grew up with a blend of Hindu and Sufi culture but only now learning about the horrors they've committed in Sindh. My grandmother and women from early 1900s or so had to wear a chaddar with only one eye visible (akhri) and rush through their outings in groups, never going out alone. Seeing what's happening now to Hindu girls in Sindh one can understand. At community level I can see the effects of 1700 years of oppression which culminated in being uprooted with the Partition.

There's a misconception on sufism being peaceful, liberandu historians with Congress lied since several decades. I listened from a Sufi Muslim from Turkey which got very frustrated with its violent teachings like Sunnis. Finally he left Islam for good and living in peace with his family in a western country.

4- ”हे ‘ईमान’ लाने वालों! उन ‘काफिरों’ से लड़ो जो तुम्हारे आस पास हैं, और चाहिए कि वे तुममें सख्ती पायें।”

5- ”जिन लोगों ने हमारे हुक्म का इन्कार किया, उन्हें हम जल्द आग में झोंक देंगे। जब उनकी खालें जल जाएंगी तो हम उन्हें दूसरी खालों से बदल देंगे ताकि वे फ़िर से यातना का मज़ा लें। (कु: 4:56)
6- ”हे ‘ईमान’ लाने वालों! अपने बापों और भाईयों को अपना मित्र मत बनाओ यदि वे भी ईमान की अपेक्षा ‘कुफ्र’ को पसन्द करें। और तुम में से जो कोई उनसे मित्रता का नाता जोड़ेगा, तो वो भी ज़ालिम होगा। (कु:9:23)
7- ”ख़ुदा ‘काफ़िर' लोगों को मार्ग नहीं दिखाता” (कु:9:37)
8- ” ऐ ईमान लानेवालो! तुमसे पहले जिनको किताबें दी गई थी (इज़्राएली और ईसाई) उन्हें और इनकार करनेवालों को अपना मित्र न बनाओ। (कु:5:57)
9- ”फटकारे हुए, जहां कहीं पाए जाऐंगे पकड़े जाएंगे और बुरी तरह कत्ल किए जाएंगे।” (कु:33:61)
10- ”निश्चय ही तुम और वह जिसे तुम पूजते थे ‘जहन्नम’ का ईंधन हो। तुम अवश्य उसके घाट उतरोगे।”(कु:21:98)
11- ‘और उस से बढ़कर ज़ालिम कौन होगा जिसे उसके रब के द्वारा चेताया जाये और फिर वह उनसे मुँह फेर ले। निश्चय ही हमें ऐसे अपराधियों से बदला लेना है।”

12- ‘ख़ुदा ने तुमसे बहुत सी ‘ग़नीमतों' का वादा किया है जो तुम्हारे हाथ आयेंगी (लूट का माल व औरतें) (कु:48:20)
13- ”तो जो कुछ माल-ए-ग़नीमत (लूट का धन और औरतें) तुमने हासिल की है उसे वाजिब व पाक समझ कर उपयोग करो। (कु:8:69)
14- ”काफ़िरों’ के साथ लड़ो, और उन पर सख़्ती करो, उनका ठिकाना ‘जहन्नुम’ है। (कु:66:9)
15- ‘तो अवश्य हम ‘कुफ़्र’ करने वालों को यातना का मजा चखायेंगे, और अवश्य ही हम उन्हें सबसे बुरा बदला देंगे उस कर्म का जो वे करते थे।” (कु: 41:27)
16- क़ाफ़िरों को अपना दोस्त नहीं बनाना चाहिए। जो ऐसा करेगा ख़ुदा उसकी हिफाज़त नहीं करेगा। (कु: 3:28)
