2023 Yamaha MT-07. Long loop via Ashford and Hythe. Part 1.

Join me for another adventure as we make a 115 mile loop around Tonbridge, Ashford, the M20 and Hythe on the South Coast of the UK.
Along the way we are treated to good views, good chat and good vibes.
Peppered with SatNav issues (Scenic App) and a defective Cardo mic to top of the comedic value of the day.

I used the Scenic app for my rides and input waypoints to amrk out my route. I think the issue is Scenic wants to take you to the centre of that place or waypoint and is annoying if you only want to drive through that specific place. Apart from that the app was okay but I no longer subscribe to it and use Google maps. I am dragging on the map to mark the waypoint roads but is still a pain!

I’m going to trial Calimoto to see if there is an improvement there. Scenic loves to throw a curved ball at you. It did it to me this week again and I took ages to ensure all waypoints were perfect! It still screwed it up! 🤣 I discovered the issue with the M20 continuous loop and that was that it had dropped the pin in the opposite lane and was trying to achieve that! So you really have to zoom in to check waypoints as there is no logic built into its programming to keep it sensible and throw rubbish out. The prompts, such as, “level crossing ahead” are generally given as you are abeam the hazard! Overall, it’s a good planning aid, but I think for live SatNav it’s too distracting and instead of aiding situational awareness, I find it detracts from good situational awareness.
I agree that Google maps is probably the way forward, I use Waze in the car, I believe that’s based on the Google database. If they had round trip planning that would be amazing.
I think I’m at the point where I will plan a route, write down some waypoints and roads to head for and then just run Waze in the background. We’ll see?

I cam from Calimoto before Scenic so will be interested to find out your thoughts. It's okay for suggesting winding routes but couldn't fathom out the circular route which my wife and I usually do. I might give Waze a go as use it in the car, but not trialled it for the bike and certainly not for circular routes - Hoping a bike app would have this 100% sorted by now.@@TeamOrrCrew

I’m doing the 14 day free trial currently so we’ll see ?! I’ll no doubt video my rides whilst I trial it, so definitely scope for a comedy meltdown! 😂
The user interface does leave a little to be desired, so that’s the first minus point.
