      To Simon Moorcroft: He is a one in a trillion: I appreciated his music and movement in the days of yore. He was in control of the entertainment world, instead of it controlling him. He was super intelligent and well-balanced. His articulation, experience, and knowledge would give an Oxford undergraduate a run for his money. Every word, with its own tone, pitch, modulation, and expressive delivery is profoundly entertaining.

    John isn't a saint by any means but the BBC & others have fcked him over and minimized his voice consistently going all the way back to the Grundy show incident. He's been treated as a court jester by the British press despite, um, courting that purposely at times, he at least deserves an OBE for his many years of not only surviving but thriving as an English culture influencer. A profoundly frustrating iconoclast but a unique icon nonetheless.

    As much as I like the Pistols does JR honestly think he 'completely changed the face of pop music at that time'? Surely the Pistols were the antithesis of pop, not part of its progression. Typical anti-establishment rhetoric from a bore that uses that very establishment to pay for his hairspray.

    • @BrendanDevlin94
      @BrendanDevlin94 Před 10 lety +14

      Pop means popular, the pistols were about as popular (and also hated) as you can get in their time, a whole new "genre" of popular music sprung up around them. Only group ever to be banned from the Number 1 chart spot. The Pistols weren't anti-pop or even anti-establishment, the record companies and establishment was anti-them.
      Rotten was and still is despised by the establishment and it's puppets, they underhandedly label and mock him wherever he goes, as is shown in this interview, and, I dare say, by your comment.

    • @nlondonex
      @nlondonex Před 8 lety

      +BrendanDevlin94 if having an opinion is mocking then yes I suppose I am. Do you work for the BBC by any chance??? The very fact he went on to such great career-defining moments as 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' says it all really

    • @BrendanDevlin94
      @BrendanDevlin94 Před 8 lety +5

      nlondonex Why would you think I work for the BBC? He raised a lot of money for charity with I'm a Celebrity and it opened the way for him to presenting some decent nature documentaries. Also masturbated on national telly. That's a hero in my book. But then I'm not a snob.

    • @brianbirc
      @brianbirc Před 7 lety +1

      Nlondonex As a member of the Sex Pistols YES he should think he had a large part in the birth of Punk Rock. He alone did not do it all but he is one of the originals. It is all variants of rock and roll but Punk rock is a real and great variant of it. He is a true punk and stayed punk! I think and am the same and proud to be punk. I am happy and feel great and admiral of those of us Generation X punks still being punk. I listened to Dwayne Peters the great pro vertical skateboarder who says when he turned 50 he is still 100% punk. He is one of the originals and in great punk bands. I had him play a Friday night I had at a club in Newport Beach Cali a couple times. It is on some of the most expensive real estate in the US and the best Friday night club around. When the city council (who has many members live close) got it shut down after a long try. They kept it vacant for 15+ years with the sign still up. Generation X punks created extreme sports. Huge in Southern Cali and a lot of the best punk bands from here too. Even subjects become American like John. Even God left England yes God (Lemmy Kilmister) who is a great man I was stoked with backstage and after he asked the group of something to do better. I suggested a great local topless bar he said hell yes and had a conversation with just me and him drinking bourbon for an hour. He is real and the same as on stage and we thought the same about things in life.

      chipfire suppose for a moment, just one moment, that Johnny Lydon actually likes butter and wants to promote it?
      What is that to you?
      Actually I felt back then that natural products were WAY better than these substitute products
      Nowadays I use lard to cook, not oils or even butter because lard is simply the best shallow frying agent there is. I would happily promote lard in favour of sunflower or olive oil for high temperature cooking.
      What's wrong with that?
      Johnny is right. Butter is better than that other crap.
