It seems John Lydon knows more about this than Gordon Ramsay. Ramsay calls it sushi. Sushi is seasoned rice sometimes rolled or pressed together with a variety of ingredients often not raw fish... I think he meant to say sashimi and even then he would have been incorrect: sashimi is in fact raw fish but not actually served seasoned, that is up to the diner. Although no one mentioned that it was meant to be a japanese dish, it was implied just by the mention of sushi. It is more a ceviche which is a Peruvian or Argentinian dish most likely originating from Spain. When John Lydon said something about the turbot not being very Japanese he was right. The turbot lives in the atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea. Yes, Gordon Ramsay in this case CAN actually learn a thing or two from Johnny Rotten.
Oops excuse ignorant me from the past. What I PROBABLY meant was that Ramsay is more driven by his style of cooking than by the traditional standards.
@@alexandergrande8310 I, my friend, have been working in a Japanese restaurant, with a true Japanese menu, a japanese owner and chefs. Sushi in its original form known as Funazushi back then is way different. All Maki, Futo-maki, ura-maki, temaki sushi.What Ramsay did here comes close to Sashimi but it wasn't that either.
Weird thing is, I’m willing to bet that Ramsay knows all of that.
Actually, since he added the lime juice echo his literally cooks raw fish on its own, it’s more like Ceviche Puerto Rican fish than anything else.

it shouldnt have been called sushi,at best its sashimi but european style not japanese,which John have adressed.About the textures i disagree,something crunchy on a slimy thing aint that bad,but its a preference of each own.

I had always wanted to meet Lydon and I did in 2012.He was really nice and not a dick at all.After PIL played a show in Houston,they went in to their travel busses (where Lydon called his wife)and came out to sign autographs until 2 am.

I'm Japanese myself and is neither a sashimi or a sushi to me, but closer to sashimi if I had to pick one. But as you all pointed out here, I wouldn't be emotional offended or think that is "incorrect". And what determines (aka. who cares; what matters) if I'm correct or not just because I am Japanese and grew up in the culture? Nothing. As he is much more knowledgeable and richer than I am, I don't care what he calls it, or whoever calls it, I will let them call whatever they want. At the end, what if things such as food aren't called what they're "supposed" to be called?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't all Sushi supposed to be frozen at a very specific temperature, for a very specific time limit, then thawed and ready to eat? That's how they do it in Japan. It's to make sure there is nothing in the fish that can hurt you. That's why when Gordon says your not supposed to freeze fish for sushi, he's wrong. Well, not entirely, because you can eat some fish right out of the water raw. But it all depends where the fish is from, and where it's been. Go search how to make sushi with real Japanese chef's. You will see.
You're very right, it has to be frozen at -20 degrees celcius for 24 hours, or at -18 degrees for 72 hours. This is done in order to kill a parasite that surprisingly often can be found in raw fish :)
