We might be looking at the next Ballon Dor winner in Vinicius Junior. He has been Real Madrid’s main man in recent seasons, but things weren’t always smooth sailing for Vini. His career at Real Madrid didn’t get off to a bright start as he was inconsistent raw lacked that finishing touch despite all of his tricks and flicks and it even got to a point where Karim Benzema on camera told a teammate of his not to pass the ball to him because he was playing against them. From that incident he is now in the conversation for being the best player in the world after having back to back seasons with 20+ goals and 20+ assists and this season he has 23 goals and 11 assists 34 G/A in all competitions. In the last 3 seasons, he has 15+ goals and 15+ assists in the UCL, no player has been involved in more goals in the champions league than Vini and has gotten a G/A in his last 10 UCL knockout games. Chelsea is the only team where he’s failed to register a goal or an assist in a knockout tie. The guy is still only 23 years old. Cristiano Ronaldo is seen as Mr. Champions League, since him Vini has been the best player in the UCL and when you wear the number 7 shirt at Real Madrid with great power comes great responsibility with this iconic jersey and Vini has been up to the task and has delivered over and over again. This season, he’ll be the main reason for why Real Madrid will win the Champions League again and that’s why he has a massive chance of winning the Ballon Dor because part of being the best player in the world is showing up for your team in big games and he does it time and time again. The guy has the output to back up his incredible talent and skill and you’re seeing the absolute best of him and he’s Real Madrid’s best player right now. There are people now who are seeing him as a world class player and he’s gonna dominate the left wing for the years to come for club and country.

Erling Haaland is already one of the best goal-scorers we’ve ever seen. I think a lot of people forget that he’s 23 years old. Since the 2019-20 season for club and country, he has been scoring goals at a frightening rate showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. His goalscoring prowess was already very evident when he was on Salzburg and then elevated his game at Borussia Dortmund where he scored 86 goals in 89 games. Since his move to Manchester City, he hasn’t stopped scoring there either in fact in the most competitive league in the world, Haaland is scoring goals at a better rate in the Premier League than he ever did in the Bundesliga and it’s a testament to how good he is.
In his debut season at Manchester City, he scored 50+ goals in all competitions broke the scoring record in the Premier League top scorer in the champions league, he won the treble and it’s not a coincidence that they finally got over the line to win the champions league the season after he joined. Had Lionel Messi not won the World Cup, Haaland would’ve won a Ballon Dor by now. This season despite not being at his brilliant best, again he’s still scoring goals at a prolific rate, 38 goals in all competitions, he has the most goals out of any player in the Premier League this season even though he literally missed a month with injury. Many people will say that it’s because he plays with Kevin De Bruyne and other elite playmakers at Manchester City and while he does benefit from playing alongside these creative players, it shouldn’t take anything away from him because Haaland has been scoring so many goals even before he went to Manchester City. If it’s so easy for attackers to score goals on City, they should be putting up the stats that Haaland has put up then. Since he’s still only 23, his numbers will continue to go up and while his linkup play is frustrating at times, his goals make up for his shortcomings because at the end of the day he’s doing his job which is putting the ball in the back of the net and he’s so good at it. There are critics who say that football has dropped off if Haaland wins the Ballon Dor he should’ve won one by now, he should be appreciated for how elite of a striker he is. I do think that no matter how successful he is for Manchester City domestically due to the fact that Norway isn’t going to achieve a lot at international level, him winning a Ballon Dor could be very difficult.

We all know Haaland and Mbappe are the face of the new era of football however we can't ignore the other players that will make their mark in the next decade. Vini Jr is in prime position to win the Ballon D'or this year after continuing to be the player he is after spending the first 3 years finding his feet at Real Madrid. His teammate Valverde is one of the best midfielder out there for Real Madrid and Uruguay and will inherit the #8 jersey for next season when Kroos retires. In Germany, Florian Wirtz is that guy for Bayer Leverkusen and will be a threat for the Ballon D'or for many years to come. England have world class players and those players for the new era are Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Kobbie Mainoo. In Spain, Pedri, Gavi and Lamine Yamal are the future of Barcelona and Spain with the dark horse Nico Williams right behind them. Arda Guler is still a teenager but shown quality for Madrid and Turkey. Here in our continent Africa, Brahim Diaz is the next heir to replace Salah as our best player in Africa since I can't think of another African player to lead the next generation of world class African players. I wish I could name more players like Kvicha, Endrick and Vitor Roque but it will require me to right a book about the next generation players to lead the new era of football.

I like the list, but I feel like Trent Alexander-Arnold has to be here. He has completed club football already, potentially the best passer/crosser of the ball in the world, and could retire right now as one of the greatest right backs ever. He has the opportunity to win plenty of trophies with Liverpool and England (if they can figure it out). The big question with him is will he become a midfielder. For England, I hope so, he wins MOTM every time he graces the midfield, and is too good to be sitting on a bench. He is a game changing player, and before his injury this past season he was one of the best players in the world. His big question mark is defense, but for those who actually watch him it isn't terrible like people claim it is and it also isn't detrimental to the team in the way people say it is. He changes every game he plays in, and part of the reason Liverpool didn't win the Premier League is that he was injured for considerable time. Whether he stays at right back or moves into the midfield, he still will impact the game like no one else.

All these new players, albeit great and as you said will define this generation have definitely shone a different light on just how insane Messi and CR7 were, 12 seasons of scoring over 50 goals and/or more than 80+ G/A is insane compared to the current numbers we are seeing of players who are now at the same age and are the current best.

it's truly an incredible effect that Messi's and Ronaldo's prime's had on people.

The fact that Messi and CR7 were able to create those numbers for 12/13 straight seasons, and even to some point in their twilight years is a testament to how lucky we were as football fans to witness them.
