Scottish ingredients. I'm liking it pal. Glad they were tasty. Keep staying spot on pal. By far my favourite food review channel. And because of you, my folks have decided to save on expensive Chinese takeaways (and they ARE expensive in my town), and instead buy the Mayflower curry sauce & add it to their chicken & onion. There really isn't that much difference! And the best thing is the low sugar content. I'm amazed that that much flavour is in it without silly amounts of sugar! You, my friend, are a legend. That’s a tasty warming satisfying meal in winter or summer😊 Scotch pie with chips & peas & a bit of beef gravy 😊 The Scottish chip shops all do Scotch pies & a Scotch pie supper is a warming winter treat if out and about but if salt and vinegar & some Gold star chippy sauce either tomato or brown is delicious. A roll in scotch pie is nice .
I have never had a scotch pie. I am nearer to the south so probably better known by people nearer to Scotland. I must investigate the bakeries to see if they stock them. They looked lovely.
I have now tried one of these Bells Scotch pies from Farmfoods and it was gorgeous! Far better than the Greggs. This pie was the normal pie, not the one with chilli. I ate it with a can of new potatoes roasted in the air fryer. I drained the potatoes and mopped them dry, then sprayed them with a sunflower oil spray from Aldi. Finally, I sprinkled a fair bit of salt over them and roasted them on air crisp for 18 minutes at 190° C, shaking occasionally. They turned out far better than I expected, with a crispy golden skin.
Hi Gareth, someone has already mentioned parchment paper/grease proof for the pies but in general I would be inclined to use it all the time because air fryers like that quickly become stained with baked in food stuff 👍.
You’re SPOT ON Gareth, a Scotch pie was originally filled with pork. The crust is meant to be hardish so the pie can be carried without it falling to bits. The reason the top doesn’t go all the way to the casing is so that you can put beans, peas, or potatoes on top. A ‘special’ pie has no top. It has meat, then beans, then potatoes on top. You can also get a macaroni pie and a chicken curry pie which is really good. I don’t have them often, however; my favourite is . . . well done home made chips, after heating pie, cut it in half and separate a little bit, pour beans over the top of the pie, or (Farrows) marrowfat peas, with the obligatory buttered bread for mopping up, and chip buttie. I’ll try and get you a ‘Killie’ pie to you, so you can try that. Great review pal, keep it up. All the best to you and yours.

Make sure you do an update video on the new sage. Mainly how easy it is to clean. I love the standard air fryer and being able to just whack the basket in the dishwasher. But the idea of air frying a pizza is interesting. I've been doing pizzas in my normal air fryer but cutting the pizza up before cooking it and doing a few slices at a time. It's still quicker than using my big standard oven. but the sage looks good being much larger.
Always liked TRADITIONAL 'Scotch pies' BUT over the decades you can see many produced that are not what we call 'traditional' ... so you have to be careful NOT to fall into the trap of anything goes into that pie... A bit like us Cornish getting a little peed off about those who mess around with our CORNISH pasties.. 👀The first filling was spiced mutton and sometimes you’ll still find Scotch Pies called a Mutton pie, although now minced lamb or beef is more commonly used.👍 The difference between a Scotch pie to other mince pies is the pastry, called “hot water pastry”. It’s more like a crust rather than a flaky pastry, meaning it can be moulded to form the distinctive round with straight sides. 👍Mom always stuck with lamb mince for our Scotch Pies, given the most traditional filling was mutton but that’s not really a supermarket shelf staple now. Lamb is now more common, or you can use beef if you prefer, but this will, of course, give it a different flavour.👀In short, mutton are sheep that are brought to market when they are one year old or older. Before that, they're referred to as lambs.

Bells pies are pretty decent. I usually have one of their steak pies at new years (Scottish tradition having steak pie at new years). A thought for another type of pie you could try... have you ever heard of a Kilmarnock pie (formerly Killie pie but there was some legal wrangling over the name). They are really nice steak pies of a similar size to Scotch pies. They also have a different kind of crust. The pies are mass produced, but the manufacturer is a small independent bakery chain (Brownings the bakers). I believe they also took the crown of best Scotch pie at some point (so maybe you should try a Scotch pie from them one day too!)
These need to be sent to the U.S. in midwest. Been craving a Scotch pie for over 20 yrs. I've had authentic way back when... this, seems close enough. ;) ENJOY!!
Baked beans poured on top of two Scotch Pies is how most Scottish kids have been brought up. Hard to beat. No need for chilli just go with the standard ones.
