My husband is a big pie eater. I occasionally eat them. We’ve tried just about every supermarket pie and don’t rate them. We recently found a local butcher who makes and bakes their own pies. Unbelievable taste, quality and value. I wholeheartedly support your comment about supporting local businesses. 👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy we live in a village in North Lincolnshire. The butcher’s shop is Parkins in Crowle North Lincolnshire. It’s the next village up from us. If any of your subscribers live in the area I highly recommend they give them a try. We recommend their steak pies.
Hi Gareth, I find the best way to reheat butchers pies is to place the pie in an oven proof dish that is just bigger than the pie. Place the pie still in the foil in the dish, then put boiling water half way up the pie foil. Cover the dish with tinfoil and put in the oven from cold until it reaches 200c. Takes about 10 mins. Then, take foil off, empty water out and then let the top crisp for 5 mins. Turnout lovely and don't dry out.
Hi Gareth, love watching your videos, you make me laugh when talking about pies and food in general, your so funny mate. My missus says that the only time i look happy is when I'm eating my tea, I go hypo. 😂 Keep up the good work. 👍🏻
Cheers Gaz, for taking us out with you to get those pies. Fresh farm pies are always going to be excellent. But to give M&S their due that pie looks beautiful. Much appreciated once again my friend.
Hi, the M&S pie looked good but I still think the farm pie will have a far better flavour and is not ultra processed. I make all the pies we eat myself, that way I know what goes in them. Thank you for the review, it was very interesting and fun to watch.
It would have been interesting to see the relative weights of the actual steak in the two pies, the Farm shop pie appeared to have far more than the M&S one.
Cheers pal I’ve been watching your vids for a while now and the more recent ones when you’re out and about using local produce suppliers are really great , gives us all a good insight into the alternatives to super markets etc whilst at the same time supporting your local businesses 👍 I’m a little distrusting of these price increases in the big shops 🤔 it’s great what you’re showing us keep it up 🙏

Thanks for the 'spot on' review. Pull up a sandbag bag while I reminisce. In the sixties and seventies when the Co-op had it is own butchers and bakery department. My mum sent me to purchase some steak pies. As you entered the shop you were surrounded with the aroma of freshly baked bread and all various kinds of pies and cakes. The pies were filled from base to lid with succulent tender, steak meat in large chunks with no gristle! Even back then I treasured that experience and it set a benchmark to how a pie should be. The farm shops and private bakers near me do not disappoint when it comes to reaching the benchmark, sadly the commercial pies, in my opinion don't reach it. Yes the pies are dry but that is to be expected yet they represent great value. There is nothing better, and getting the taste buds salivating, than caramilsing some onions in a frying pan and adding them to thickened sauce made with Guinness and beef stock and softening the crust with it! I am hungry now! 😅

Another excellent comparison. spot on. The prices are really rocketing skywards. Your review of Iceland pepperoni beefburgers was a fav of mine and even though they are still getting 5-star reviews they have decided to discontinue them and kept all the naff ones. The Lewis Capaldi cheesy pizza has now doubled in price from £2 which was great to £4 so we will no longer be buying them no matter how good they tasted. Hi Gavin, nice to go out and about with you. M & S pie looked fabulous. The farm shop one was dry looking, but I bet it was tasty, though. On balance, for the same price, I think I would buy two of the farm shop pies and make some good gravy. Great video.
Yeah just add your own gravy and some mash/chips and would still be cheaper. M&S one did look really good but a fiver for an individual pie is just a bit too much for me.

You've made me want to look up my nearest farm shop now!! Haha. Although they both look good, has to be the farm shop pie for me, can't imagine the quality is too much different from the M & S one. And talking of M & S; I used to think their pies were pricey when the were half the cost that they are now, I suppose this one will be about 6 quid in a month's time! 😕
Hi Gareth, spot on review. The farm shop pie looked lovely just like a homemade one would look like and also a good price. The M&S one looked lovely also especially with the gravy as well and the pastry looked nice. The only fault with it was the price
Hi Gaz and thanks for another great comparison vid...and with a bit of driving too, I always find that relaxing for some reason. As for the pies, I would be happy with either of them but I think I might just go for the M&S one first but only because it has a nice drop of gravy. If the farm shop pie had gravy then I am sure I would choose that if I was doing a comparison. All the best and look forward to the next review!
Two great looking pies, they looked much better than the typical supermarket fodder, which I usually find contains lumps of fat and gristle. My favourite pies? Haffners in Burnley or Cissie Greens in Haslingden. Meat and potato, mushy peas and gravy plus some home-made pickled sliced onions on top.
I noticed cross contamination when cutting the pies , i will not sleep well tonight, lol, great review as always Gaz. Its bit pricey at £5.00...all the best keep up the great work
the personal touch cant be beaten, my dad would holiday in yorkshire and cumbria he loved the fresh homemade produce ur very lucky to have that around u here in london everything is mass produced, if i lived where u live id support my local business and freshly local made produce, if u added gravy to the drier pie bet ud get same weight
Bit of a tough comparison there! M&s are very nice but so are farm shop products locally sourced etc.. they both looked absolutely lovely,ya can't beat a pie or pie n peas mint sauce 😋 I also agree with good service in a supermarket,it doesn't cost anything. Big difference in the pies though n like you said support ya local n local farmers it's hurting them too. With their costs. Great interesting vid Gareth 👌
Brilliant, another pie afficianado like myself. I've just scoffed a beautiful cheese n onion pie; I actually prefer these cold. Keep up the great work.
Gareth, you are just like my brother in law from Durham, you might be his long lost brother! I married a Durham Girl and her home made pies are pretty good too. I did think in the north east, cold pies were a thing at lunchtime with a sandwich. Love your videos, fun and informative. Keep well mate.
We had a butcher in Prestwick called Hoods and the owner Lawrence was a good friend of mine, his mum used to make all the Pies and Bridies etc and they were full of the best meat and you had to go in at a certain time in the day to get them fresh out the oven but unfortunately he has retired now and no other butcher has taken it over and it's now a Domino Pizza shop, another great video Gareth
Mark's & Spensive masters of greedflation pie bulked out with gravy etc. I'm having a pie, Jersey Royals and peas tonight doused in mixed up gravy from Aldi. Top vid as always
Last week we purchased 2 steak and kidney pies from a local bakery in Howard, Queensland. Cost $6.40 each, but were full of meat and kidney chunks, so filling and tasty. 🐂🐂
The farm shop one looks very nice and is cheaper and as you say your supporting your local shop which must be a huge plus. I prefer my wife's homemade steak and kidney pie but I might be a bit biased!!!! Great review.
Definitely would encourage everyone to check out their local butchers for pies. Best I ever had were from Lincoln Ermine East butchers and the butchers in Shrewsbury indoor market. Gareth I'm so glad your trying all these pies on our behalf lol
It is good that you are putting these comparisons out there for people to see. Personally I think all the adverts on You Tube should have a comments section, so that if you have bought something & it was absolute rubbish you can say so. Why should manufacturers have all the say? Especially as some do seek to create a false impression. It would be much more democratic if we had the option to comment on adverts. Then if we bought something & it was great we can say so & if it was rubbish, we can say that. There should be some guide lines though. People should say why something was great or why it was rubbish because some people will just say something is rubbish because they do not like it, when there is actually nothing wrong with the product.
i used our oven for the first time in over 7 months, we had family round and needed the oven for chips and pies, did the onion rings and nuggets in airfryer... mushy peas in pan on hob... i buy aldi pies they got a good range of pies that are cheap...
In fairness to Gaz, he cooked it for 15 minutes and he admitted he'd "over-cooked" it. Also, to be taken into account, it was 80g less weight than M & S. So, I would have cooked/reheated (as it was warm) for eight to 10 minutes. 😊
I know what you mean, but the farm shop one could be eaten in the car/van, still warm, whereas the supermarket one is more of a sit down meal pie, in my opinion.
I love a good chunky steak pie,the m&s one looked lovely with the gravy, shame the other was dry I bet that would have been great if not dried out, officially drooling now. 😂
They both look delicious, but have a different purpose, the pie from Brown’s seems like the type you have on the go, to be eaten straight out of the foil container. The M&S pie is your at home with mash & peas on a plate with knife and fork job
Great Review Gaz.That's a good price for a Farm Shop Pie.You'd be paying twice that in Farm Shops here in Wales.I get a few pies from a Local Butcher now and again. They do good Pies and Sausages
Love Farm shop produce(when you get a good one) and use our local one regularly.I've had the M+S one a few times and really like it.I'd have to choose that one as the FS one looked too dry---would have to have gravy with that. But a big price difference for the sake of making a bit of Bisto!
Even though the M&S is 100grams heavier,,it’s still not a sharer,so for £4.60 you and your other half can have a tasty meal in the making whilst it’s a whopping£10 from M&S before the veg hits the plate, absolute no brainer, good review Gareth, keep them coming 👍
I really enjoy watching your videos. Wish I could still get out and about I miss going to farmshops. Now I have to shop online and have goods delivered. When I order, I do two shops at once ASDA and TESCO, open in tabs, nipping back and forth comparing prices on my regulars and favorites. Eg: 150g "Lor" coffee is £6 in ASDA, £7 in TESCO... That £1 saving pays for my ASDA delivery charge... Frozen Chicken breast fillets and thighs are cheaper in ASDA, most battered Fish fillets are Cheaper in Tesco... And so on. Gotta watch your pennies these daze.
Had put off having lunch today, but my stomach is now rumbling badly after watching this 😂 Personally I love the Morrisons in-house Chunky Steak pies - still good value at £2.50 for 2. Sadly not the bargain they were at £2 not that many months ago. But they still sell out really quick...
Hey Gareth!!!!! ❤ 😊 The Farmshop pie looks Great, with all that BEEF!!!!! 🐄 🐄 The Supermarket pie looks good with more gravy, I would choose the Farmshop pie, BUT, maybe add my own gravy to dip it in? 🍴 🍽 🍽 🍴
Hi enjoyed the ride out, farmshop pie looked good, we dont have a farmshop near us but generally if you find a farmshop on your travels the are normaly very expensive (Note we are down south) as for M&S what can you say its usually very good products, but again a little on the expensive side, i will try the M&S one it did look well tasty. Thankyou Gaz, good video.👍😋
Hi Gaz, looking at the price from Farm shop to M&S.. Id still buy the far shop pie and pop to Tesco for a Bottle O Old Peculier at £2 per bottle n have a pie n pint for £4.30... Bonus LOL ... Keep up the good work .. Andy ..
I was in Browns this morning on your recommendation as I am on holiday in Bowness, so nipped in for 2 steak and a meat and potato .we were chatting about you .prefer the steak as you did👍
Each one has the edge over the other - the one from Marks & Sparks has the edge because of the Theakston’s Old Peculier ale - but the farm shop one is made locally and in the shop - not at some remote location in Milton Keynes or Welwyn Garden City or Sutton Coldfield - Marks & Sparks aren’t the cheapest place for anything - not even a sandwich - although they realise that you actually can put two or more fillings in a sandwich!
Hi Gareth, i bought a beef pie from our local bakery shop recently and i paid $6.75c Au they are becoming so expensive here, i can also buy a packet of 4 from our Coles super market freezer for $ 6.50c and they heat up just as nice, as this pastry shop, But, i do like a good squirt of Tomato sauce with a beef pie 👍 👍

Love a good pie, steak and onion would be my favourite but the steak must be really good quality, also like Chicken Pies with again high quality chicken. I'm quite picky when it comes to pies. The ingredients must be of very high quality. Really enjoyed that review. The M and S one looked very nice. I generally pay about 5 dollars for a pie over here in Australia when I buy one.
Hi Gareth, thanks for your videos - we really enjoy watching them. One question, those Range Eggs you got from Brown’s did you say they were free? lol!
Bald a couple of points,Onion seeds have nothing to do with onions 🌰 and are called Nigella seeds, used in Indian dishes and breads,i have never heard in all my years of Steak pies having Onion seeds on top,its just bollocks if you ask me 😅 and another point in the 1970s the local bakery and butchers in Liverpool used to sell pies packed solid with tender stewed Beef n gravy and were huge! and cheap even back then, please tell me how big chain supermarket pies are scrawny and are mostly just gravy? Greed is what it comes down to,you are right we must support independent local shops if it is financially possible and accessible, even better if you can make your own ( unfortunately i can't bake)😮.keep em coming mate.

If the farm shop pie had gravy then I am sure I would choose that if I was doing a comparison.
All the best and look forward to the next review!
Glad you enjoyed it, you're welcome 😊
If you were taking it home though, you could add gravy & some boiled potatoes with a bit of butter on plus a few green beans or peas, maybe carrots.
So good pal 👌
I noticed cross contamination when cutting the pies , i will not sleep well tonight, lol, great review as always Gaz. Its bit pricey at £5.00...all the best keep up the great work
Haha yes I struggled last night 😆
the personal touch cant be beaten, my dad would holiday in yorkshire and cumbria he loved the fresh homemade produce ur very lucky to have that around u here in london everything is mass produced, if i lived where u live id support my local business and freshly local made produce, if u added gravy to the drier pie bet ud get same weight
Yes I'm lucky here for sure. Thank you. Your dad knows his stuff 😁
Great video Gareth xx 👍
I would prefer the farm shop pie 🥧 😋
You're welcome 😊
Bit of a tough comparison there! M&s are very nice but so are farm shop products locally sourced etc.. they both looked absolutely lovely,ya can't beat a pie or pie n peas mint sauce 😋 I also agree with good service in a supermarket,it doesn't cost anything. Big difference in the pies though n like you said support ya local n local farmers it's hurting them too. With their costs. Great interesting vid Gareth 👌
Very true! You're welcome 😊
Best pies I ever had was at this pie cafe in Whitby just before you come to the bridge.. You have got to try it...AMAZING!!!👌👍😊
Brilliant, another pie afficianado like myself. I've just scoffed a beautiful cheese n onion pie; I actually prefer these cold. Keep up the great work.
Cheers pal, so good mate 👍
Gareth, you are just like my brother in law from Durham, you might be his long lost brother! I married a Durham Girl and her home made pies are pretty good too. I did think in the north east, cold pies were a thing at lunchtime with a sandwich. Love your videos, fun and informative. Keep well mate.
Haha you never know lol ,all the best 👌
We had a butcher in Prestwick called Hoods and the owner Lawrence was a good friend of mine, his mum used to make all the Pies and Bridies etc and they were full of the best meat and you had to go in at a certain time in the day to get them fresh out the oven but unfortunately he has retired now and no other butcher has taken it over and it's now a Domino Pizza shop, another great video Gareth
Cheers Rick, you're welcome 😊
Bridies?
Good video. Many great points made, in your down to earth style. Thank you. Peace be unto you.
You're welcome 😊
Mark's & Spensive masters of greedflation pie bulked out with gravy etc. I'm having a pie, Jersey Royals and peas tonight doused in mixed up gravy from Aldi. Top vid as always
Sounds great!
Last week we purchased 2 steak and kidney pies from a local bakery in Howard, Queensland. Cost $6.40 each, but were full of meat and kidney chunks, so filling and tasty. 🐂🐂
Cheers Bob.
A great comparison Gareth. Well worthwhile my friend. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
The farm shop one looks very nice and is cheaper and as you say your supporting your local shop which must be a huge plus. I prefer my wife's homemade steak and kidney pie but I might be a bit biased!!!! Great review.
Oh yummy nice one Stigg
So what time is dinner, round at yours?!!
Never let her go 👍

Very worthwhile comparison Gareth. Thank you.
You're welcome Keith 😊
@@BaldFoodieGuy . . You are a gentleman Gareth.
Ive watched your channel grow . Congratulations.🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much 😁
Both Pies looked good Gaz... ! Ive never been to the Farm shop even though I been past it a thousand times on the A590...will have to pop in.
Nice one pal
Definitely would encourage everyone to check out their local butchers for pies.
Best I ever had were from Lincoln Ermine East butchers and the butchers in Shrewsbury indoor market.
Gareth I'm so glad your trying all these pies on our behalf lol
You're welcome 😊
Ooh Gareth the great British pie off xx loving the video
You're welcome x
You're welcome 😊 thank you for watching 👀 😊
I think I'd go for the farm shop pie. Just add gravy and chips. £1 buys 50g of M&S but 68g of farm shop pie.
i used our oven for the first time in over 7 months, we had family round and needed the oven for chips and pies, did the onion rings and nuggets in airfryer... mushy peas in pan on hob...
i buy aldi pies they got a good range of pies that are cheap...
That farm food one looks a bit dry but the M&S one looks more appetizing because of the gravy, to me eyes anyway. Will give these a go. Cheers Gaz.
😂
Good review Gaz. 2 great pies but the pie shop wins on value & friendly service - which I’m guessing was lacking at M&S.
Cheers pal.
Cracking video again mate.this one reminds me of the wizard of oz ,you know somewhere over the rainbow weigh a pie
Great video both pies looked delicious . Enjoy your Cumberland sausage you can tell just by looking at it that it will be yummy x
Yes going to have it later.
They both look delicious, but have a different purpose, the pie from Brown’s seems like the type you have on the go, to be eaten straight out of the foil container. The M&S pie is your at home with mash & peas on a plate with knife and fork job
Yes good point
Great Review Gaz.That's a good price for a Farm Shop Pie.You'd be paying twice that in Farm Shops here in Wales.I get a few pies from a Local Butcher now and again. They do good Pies and Sausages
Cheers Darren. Yes pretty cheap really. All the best mate.
@@BaldFoodieGuy Only Professional Footballers get their Food from Farm Shops around here Mate Lol 😆
@@darrenknaggs9113 haha 😄
Love Farm shop produce(when you get a good one) and use our local one regularly.I've had the M+S one a few times and really like it.I'd have to choose that one as the FS one looked too dry---would have to have gravy with that. But a big price difference for the sake of making a bit of Bisto!
Yes my fault, last time I reviewed it was perfect. I shouldn't of warmed it up again lol
ha ha ha id have an oxo cube in a bit of hot water
Even though the M&S is 100grams heavier,,it’s still not a sharer,so for £4.60 you and your other half can have a tasty meal in the making whilst it’s a whopping£10 from M&S before the veg hits the plate, absolute no brainer, good review Gareth, keep them coming 👍
Never a sharer lol 😆
*I call this a spectacular Pie review 🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌*
They both look delicious,to be fair x
Great to see the large pieces of beautifully cooked steak in the farm shop pie. Quality!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the show matey, All the best from GRIMSBY.
Thank you. 😊
Hi Gareth great video loads of love from dublin ❤
Glad you enjoyed it.
You're welcome 😊
Had put off having lunch today, but my stomach is now rumbling badly after watching this 😂
Personally I love the Morrisons in-house Chunky Steak pies - still good value at £2.50 for 2.
Sadly not the bargain they were at £2 not that many months ago. But they still sell out really quick...
So good!
I went to my Morrisons today for them and they were all gone, they are the best supermarket pies by a mile!
Morrisons in house cornish pasties are pretty good too. With proper shortcrust pastry, not that flaky stuff that sheds all over your clothes...
You're welcome
I love pies myself another fantastic pie review
Gareth in pie heaven…this is not a review it’s one man’s life high
Absolutely 💯
Two belting pies, terrific with mash n peas n gravy, the farm shop value was outstanding, good craic. 👌
Glad you enjoyed it
Used to go to Browns when I lived in Barrow, pies are great and the Cumberland sausages is another level
Hi Gaz, looking at the price from Farm shop to M&S.. Id still buy the far shop pie and pop to Tesco for a Bottle O Old Peculier at £2 per bottle n have a pie n pint for £4.30... Bonus LOL ... Keep up the good work .. Andy ..
Great idea cheers Andy
I was in Browns this morning on your recommendation as I am on holiday in Bowness, so nipped in for 2 steak and a meat and potato .we were chatting about you .prefer the steak as you did👍
Oh nice one mate. 👍 have a good holiday. 👍
Great review Gareth 👏 , nothing much I could add to all you said , and 5 quid for a small pie is naughty at best . Take it easy bud 👍
Thanks 👍 cheers Ian, all the best.
Do love a good pie. Great Video.
Yes! Thank you!
I buy Steak pies from a stall who regularly appears at a car boot sale I go to. £2.50 per pie. It is quite simply the best steak pie I have ever had.
After trying many pies over the years, I've found the hand made ones by Lime tree pantry were absolutely amazing.
Cheers Rob
I love me some pies, cream pies are my favourite
😂11:40 for 30 Seconds.....Love your vlogs Gareth (Brilliant and down-to-earth uploads)...just a guess though how many times did you say Steak (edit, yes I know that's the joke) lol.....Made me laugh mate. Totally agree with your final opinion 👍
Haha cheers pal
Love a good pie, steak and onion would be my favourite but the steak must be really good quality, also like Chicken Pies with again high quality chicken. I'm quite picky when it comes to pies. The ingredients must be of very high quality. Really enjoyed that review. The M and S one looked very nice. I generally pay about 5 dollars for a pie over here in Australia when I buy one.
Cheers Shane
Can't beat a video showing a solid UK citizen enjoying a pair of pies. Spot On.
Haha yes
Hi Gareth, thanks for your videos - we really enjoy watching them. One question, those Range Eggs you got from Brown’s did you say they were free? lol!
🤣
Coates butchers in Alrewas do fantastic home baked pies. The lamb and mint is a particular favourite!
Thanks for the tip!
Cheers James yes onion seeds what's the point lol
LOL......"Maybe I made a missteak" ...haha that made me laugh ...thank you for yet another fab review ....rock on :-)
Glad you enjoyed it
