I need a friend in the small tire industry 😂 ...I have Turf savers on my Craftsman LTX1000 that are probably the original ones, none of the 4 hold air, the rears have cracks in the sidewall big enough to use as coin slots almost, Ive filled them with liquid electrical tape/rtv just to get by mowing. In this economy, the "regular" person can barely afford a set of 4 new tires on their car without getting a personal loan. Anyway, those tires look great, maybe I will eventually run across a used set I can find on market place or something.

  • @kbill23

I have been using these for two years and I think they actually prevent you from ripping up your lawn. Anytime you spin your tires (no matter what tire you are using) you rip up the lawn. Since these tires are less likely to spin, they actually prevent the lawn from getting ripped up. You can also use more control when going up steep inclines since you have more traction (you don’t need to go as fast as you can and hope you make it). I think that prevents excess abuse on your frame, although it may put a little more load on your transmission.

  • @LittleCabin
    @LittleCabin Před rokem +6

I don't have those, but did replace my turf savers with the Carlisle Super Lugs, since our property is very hilly and the turf savers were just awful, especially in anything but completely dry conditions. Couldn't be happier with the more aggressive treads!

I installed tractor tread on my 48” scag zero turn a few years ago . Yes it tears up the lawn a little but I don’t get stuck on uneven hillsides any longer. Those tires look like a nice compromise. Thanks as always Steve .

*New Sub* sending a HUGE THANK YOU!!! Every summer it's always something with all things lawn care for me. And quite frankly I'm tired of visiting the used mower guy every year for another mower. Last year I found a Walmart deal on a mower with a B&S 300e for approx $100. And low and behold, a few uses in to this season, my husband cuts the grass, runs outta gas. Decides to check the oil which is low then proceeds to get gas & oil, to which he then overfills... Now, the oil looks black, sludgy and smells like fuel..But, Im hopeful that with your greatly detailed and informative videos I will not give in to the temptation of visiting the mower man. I've pulled out my tool box, gathered a few supplies from the store and I'm hoping to get my lawn cut..🙂

I put the turf traction tires on my Toro zero turn a year ago. I love them, got stuck one time when I slid into a shallow ditch. It will pull some grass if you take off too fast or make a sharp turn when the ground is wet. Overall great tires.

We did have some pranksters but he was one of them. Maybe you could test that and see of it’s better to put directional tires on a lawnmower the wrong way around? Ether way they look amazing! Thanks for sharing and thank you Mr foster.

I bought a full set of Carlisle for the Troy-Bilt 46" rider I'm repairing rust on (whenever I get back to it). Had I not done that, I would go with with these. I may see about returning the Carlisle set and getting these anyway. My yard is about like yours and I have a rain ditch that runs along the street. It's maybe 1.5-2 feet deep and 4-5 feet wide and I can get in and out of it OK, but these tires wouldn't break a sweat. I also have some other areas that these tires would help on. Tell Mr. John Foster that I'll be getting 4 sooner or later, and I'm sure both of you will get a lot of sales from this video. Thanks, Steve. I bet those rear tires would pop a wheelie. Not that I'd do it on purpose because my neck would not like that. Just sayin'. And I wouldn't abuse my rig like that anyway, but there are guys who do. The Carlisle on my Craftsman 46" don't hold a sharp turn and skid, but they'll do until I get the Troy-Bilt back in service. I like the Hydrostatic much better, so I'll prolly sell the Craftsman when I'm done.
However, I don't see rim color options on your Amazon links. You can buy rear tires only (no rim in 1 each) and save $85.91, but I don't see that option on the front tires. Did I miss it?
    Thanks again, Steve, Lucky you!

I installed a pair of those rear tires on my rider last year and they work great. I have a ditch in front of my house that I've always gotten stuck in whenever I got too close to the wet spot. Then I would have to weed-eat the wet spot. Now I just mow right through it. Also, there is a hill I couldn't climb if the grass was wet, the tires would just spin and tear up a spot in the grass. Now, with the new tires I can drive straight up without any spinning or damage to the grass, wet or dry.

Psh... You want good traction with the regular old turf savers? Get yourself a paint brush and a few liters of maple syrup. Cover the tread on your lawnmower tires with a generous coat and repeat every time you cut your grass. After a few weeks you'll get a tacky, tarry, sticky clay like mud covering your tires that grips any terrain and stays bonded to the tire. Works for me but what do I know? I'm just a dope smoking Canadian with the nicest lawn in Sunnyvale.

Steve! Ive an L118? Mower, very similar to yours. My hydrostatic whines like crazy upon takeoff. Any suggestions on what to swap the oil with? Theyre not supposed to be serviceable but i believe it can be done. Thanks for the video as always

Totally off topic here , but if the string on a new starter recoils when off my push lawn mower BUT doesn't when I put it back on what could be the issue. Thanks for any input.

Those tires would be perfect for the Deep South. We have hard clay and sometimes my rider slips pretty badly trying to get out of the ditch I just mowed. I think these would give me better traction and security getting out of that ditch.

Those rear tire should help my zero turn. It loses traction when trying to mow sideways on a hill. I have seen other zero turns mow hills sideways with no issues, mine wont.

I have a question for ya Steve. I have a Stihl FS76 that I rebuilt the carburetor and replaced the fuel filter and lines, it runs great now after tuning it but the primer bulb acts weird, it will only partially fill after pumping nearly 10 times. I see no air coming up through the inlet. My guess is maybe the diaphragm is not pushing down enough on the rocker to open the needle and let fuel in. Again it runs great but can take a bit longer than it should to start after sitting for a long time. Any thoughts on this would be a big help.

hey steve quick question, my Husqvarna riding mower (looks like an orange copy of your John Deer) engin rattles on the frame quite a bit, is it supposed to have a good bit of movement from the frame or do I need to tighten some nuts or bolts underneath the engin?

My parents have had three different john deere riding mowers since '96 and they have never kept the standard tires. We have so much varied terrain, and turf on our acreage it is unfeasible, , impractical, and unsafe to do so. Im still using the 96 jd 275 as a workhorse and it has the original tractor style traction tires on the back that were put on in 96. I encourage anyone to get rid of the turf saver tires because for most owners they are useless. Especially on the bigger lawn tractors. Ive been helping an older gentleman do brush work withe his craftsman 130 mower and it scares me every time i use it because his place is all steep slopes, uneven terrain, and various turf. It has turf savers blown up rock hard and the thing won't gip, will slide, spin out, etc.. it is real fun going down slope with a trailer load of limbs and having it push the tractor ahead of it and try to tip you over. It is even more so when you hit the wet moss and grass. Change the tires folks, you shorts will thank you when they don't get soiled from that unscheduled trip you might take down a slippery slope. Extra gripage is a good thing!
Love the hybrid tread on the back set of tires. It looks like a cross between the ones on my parents 96 and the quad style they have on their newest machine.

Well dang. The beginning made think it would be entertaining to see you hold back the cussing while mounting them on the rim. Was a little disappointed that it was already on the rim. I've seen that you can buy tires already on the rim.. I'm not very inclined to pay extra for rims when I already own a set, they just happen to have my old tires on them.. it's a hassle to mount yourself, but saves the $.
