so many comments on this site from folks who want to turn music into a competition, and say that some song or some artist is "the best." so i'll just say that this song is perfect. the songwriting, the performance, the production, everything about it. an absolute jem. what a pity that so few have ever heard it.
It's nice when the songwriter is recognized. Usually you see comments on CZcams like "This version is better than the original." If I'm not mistaken, this was written for Tony Rice by Mary Chapin Carpenter.
I am so grateful to have lived in a time to see Tony perform. God blessed him with so much talent. RIP Tony, there will never be another one like you. 🙏
This song was written by Mary Chapin Carpenter. She was commissioned by Tony Rice to write it because of his fascination with the Lincoln Assassination Conspiracy. R. I. P., Tony. You are sorely missed for your musical talents.
I will never tire of this song and production. Looking at the 12 thumbs-down, I can only assume that there are people who randomly scroll through videos and thumbs-down all of them. There is no other explanation.
Saw the Bluegrass Album Band at Grass Valley,Ca.in around 1987.Of course, they were great.Tony is one of my favorite guitarists and singers ever.Wonderful song and album.
rest peacefully, Tony. you left so many gifts ...

Thanx Tony for improving the quality of life
In the Name of God and Dixie... A great tune. April 14th the day of his assassination
I requested this once at a bluegrass festival (Grey Fox). Jimmy Gaudreau told me it was so complex that it's only done in the studio.
Tony Rice remains what he will always be, an enormous figure in America, the greatest of them all.
Absolute best male voice to ever sing bluegrass. Miss the voice and the pinnacle of guitar talent everyday.

If there’s room for another face on Mount Rushmore, make it Tony Rice’s.

Grew up listening to Tony Rice. One of the all time greats as a flat picker. Playing for the Lord no doubt.
Masterpiece song by a superior songwriter, performed in quintessence by Rice and his band.
This is a beautiful song. I love the singers voice also.
