Enjoying the music while driving through the Ozarks on the way to Branson Missouri!
A quote from Tony's book, Still Inside - "Me and Gaudreau and Schatz and Wyatt played the birchmere one night. Flux (Jerry Douglas) was on the bill with us. Afterwards, we were all feeling good, man, we wanted to party and we wanted to play. I said "well, lets go party at Track. We'll get Billy Wolf over there." So we go in with a couple cases of beer and all this reefer, and we cut some of the best shit I've ever cut, if not the best stuff I've ever cut. "Greenlight on the Southern", "Walls", "Song for a Winter's Night." That stuff came out of that all-nighter".
Love this ballad
I can't tell you how massive the chill bumps I get on my arms from hearing this tune. If he can't go to heaven honey I don't wanna go son. 🔥 🔥
I thought i was learning how to play guitar until i heard Tony Rice play
YEKS! So beautiful.
One of my favorite songs, and I love this rendition so much.
The best rendition of this song ever.
A world without Tony Rice is a little bit less of a world.
Tony was one of a kind great at his craft .we will miss you tony R.I.P.❤❤
Hard to choose the GOAT between CW and TR. They were both monsters. Too bad we lost Clarence so young but OMG he was so good. Tony even play like him. The influence is unmistakable.
Yeah, Come down here to this rice mansion in Newmarket!
GD!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tough to beat the master.
Only one person can get that Antique to sound like that. Safe travels TR
More famous now that you're gone
Check out the 1963 Country Gentleman version..
What gets to me is, not only did Tony compose these incredible guitar parts (I’m thinking here about his intro), but while there are dozens of guys on CZcams who play them, as they would not seem to be that technically demanding to play, Tony still played them better than everyone else.
This is actually written by Jerry Reed
@@Theb4773ry I was referring only to the kick-off, which does not appear in Jerry’ version.
Goosebumps
Epic
Masterpiece song by a superior songwriter, performed in quintessence by Rice and his band.
I wondered what Dylan thought of Tony???
A Mary Chapin Carpenter tune,,,
Thanks for IDing the mandolinist (Sam Bush) on this. That is so fire!
There’s a Roane County in both WV and TN, but the song is about the murder in 1884 of Thomas Galbreath by his brother-in-law Willis Mayberry in Old Oakdale, Roane County, TN. Mayberry left and wandered for 25 years, returning home in 1909, was arrested and tried for murder. He wrote this song while in the courthouse jail.
Three of the best mandolinists ever on this album.
This version is the magic of Tony Rice , whatever you can say , this one just sounds fantastic and is number one for me
Thank you Mr Rice , since i discovered him , i’m a true fan of his talent and music. he always seemed to find space in mesures to put silences and notes at any speed , his distinctive sound. I daily listen to his music and it gives me the motivation and keeps me practicing with my lovely Martin D-18
🎼❤🔥Love the guitar & dobro on this. 🎧
Tony and Doc had no bluegrass roots, but we let them in and they stayed.
Love the higglers, they used to do a song called mongrel dogs. Would like to hear it again if anyone can point me towards it. ❤
My theme song 😂. But seriously, I'd like to know when you'd be leaving!!?!
That's one powerful number
Love this
One of the best
No drums, no effects, no gimmicks.
I ran up on this one quite by accident about 10 years ago. Being a big Alison krauss and Union Station fan, she kept talking about him being her favorite singer, so I just said to myself, I've got to hear him then. Boy, was I blown away! Brilliant guitar playing, excellent singing! How many people do you know who can follow Gordon Lightfoot on two of his songs (shadows and go my way)? Then, the wonderful interpretation of John Wilks Booth (wonderfully written by the brilliant Mary Chapin Carpenter). The entire album is great. Not a bad song in the bunch and of course, Urge for Going is also, as someone has already said in the chat, my decompression song. RIP Tony.
thank you so much. Tony Rice , your tone , your playing, , rip
Since i discovered mr Tony Rice there’s no day i don’t listen to him. Thank you for your excellent music, a true master Rip
👍
Thinking about using some software to remove the violin. That's the only thing I don't like in this whole album.
22 thumbs down. What is going on in this world.
❤❤❤

The greatest bluegrass picker and singer that ever lived. Long like Tony Rice.
this album has stood the test of time... It's just great timeless music. I got my copy of Manzanita in 1979 and it is still as great as the first time I heard it. Same with 0044, the Grisman Quintet albums, Skaggs and Rice, Bluegrass Album Band vol 1-6 and the list goes on and on. I have a playlist on my CZcams channel of Tony Rice live performances - both video and audio recordings. czcams.com/video/z2gXSee9EUs/video.html
was a rover, on land and on sea 'til a good woman's love she made a new man of me Life had no meaning, it was so incomplete 'til a good woman's love put me back on my feet Still a-roamin' I go home in the evening and she's waiting there and I know that no matter what happens she'll always care and when night falls and the moon shines above I'm a man with a dream and a good woman's love I was a rover, on land and on sea 'til a good woman's love made a new man of me Life had no meaning, it was so incomplete 'til a good woman's love put me back on my feet 'Stead a-roamin' I go home in the evening and she's waiting there and I know that no matter what happens she'll always care and when night falls and the moon shines above I'm a man with a dream and a good woman's love
