- 4K City Walks - Inverness Scotland Walking Tour - Virtual Walk Walking Treadmill Video takes you around Inverness Scotland
Inverness is known as the capitol of the Highlands and is surrounded by historic and natural attractions and activities. Some of the best things to do in Inverness area are actually day tours into the surrounding country side. One of the advantages of Inverness is that they have a train station and so there are many hotels and B&Bs as well as day tours running out to the more famous locales.
We had great weather for our Inverness walking tour. Inverness Scotland is much smaller than I expected and Inverness tours are easy to do. For the best hikes in Scotland, many people head to the highlands but I do enjoy exploring all the wonderful cities and towns. For me, they provide some of the best walks in Scotland.
I'd love to get back to show you the parks down by the river and some of the more residential areas on the other side of the river Ness. We had a sick kid this day so had to quit early.
Walking Scotland is easy as trails are well mapped and marked. Cities are easy to walk with google maps.
From Wikipedia:
Inverness from the Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Nis, meaning "Mouth of the River Ness"; Scots: Inerness) is a city in the Scottish Highlands. It is the administrative centre for The Highland Council and is regarded as the capital of the Highlands. Inverness lies near two important battle sites: the 11th-century battle of Blàr nam Fèinne against Norway which took place on the Aird and the 18th century Battle of Culloden which took place on Culloden Moor. It is the northernmost city in the United Kingdom and lies within the Great Glen (Gleann Mòr) at its north-eastern extremity where the River Ness enters the Moray Firth. At the latest, a settlement was established by the 6th century with the first royal charter being granted by Dabíd mac Maíl Choluim (King David I) in the 12th century. The Gaelic king Mac Bethad Mac Findláich (MacBeth) whose 11th-century killing of King Duncan was immortalised in Shakespeare's largely fictionalized play Macbeth, held a castle within the city where he ruled as Mormaer of Moray and Ross.
The population of Inverness grew from 40,969 in 2001 to 46,869 in 2012. The Greater Inverness area, including Culloden and Westhill, had a population of 59,969 in 2012. In 2018, it had a population of 69,989.[5] Inverness is one of Europe's fastest growing cities, with a quarter of the Highland population living in or around it, and is ranked fifth out of 189 British cities for its quality of life, the highest of any Scottish city.[8] In the recent past, Inverness has experienced rapid economic growth: between 1998 and 2008, Inverness and the rest of the central Highlands showed the largest growth of average economic productivity per person in Scotland and the second greatest growth in the United Kingdom as a whole, with an increase of 86%. Inverness is twinned with one German city, Augsburg, and two French towns, La Baule and Saint-Valery-en-Caux.
Inverness College is the main campus for the University of the Highlands and Islands. With around 8,500 students, Inverness College hosts around a quarter of all the University of the Highlands and Islands' students, and 30% of those studying to degree level.
In 2014, a survey by a property website described Inverness as the happiest place in Scotland and the second happiest in the UK. Inverness was again found to be the happiest place in Scotland by a new study conducted in 2015.

👍
Thank you for the quiet. No music.😊😊
You're welcome 😊. My newer ones have a fair amount of talking but hope you enjoy those as well. -H
Born there in 1932 and left for Australia in 1961. This excellent video lets me see the changes (some of them not for the better!) in my home town now a city. Many of the places shown on the tour I remember well with great affection.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for chiming in -H
Yes, so many fine Victorian (and earlier) buildings ripped down and replaced by modern rubbish.
Amazing place thank you so much for bringing us to a place we've never been before special video💚💚💚💚
Znematic Travel so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment and for watching 😀😀😀 -Henry
Shame he didn't go down to the cathedral and the Ness Islands. That's the prettiest spot in Inverness.
We actually went down there but I didn't film it, unfortunately, as I ran out of time but I totally agree with you on how beautiful it is. Thanks! Hopefully, we'll be able to get back and film that area and others. -H
I'm 8 min walk from the islands since I was a wee girl I have loved going down the islands I'm now 34 & love it just as much.
Thank you for the amazing video from you.We will visit the Inverness in july 2022.we are 20 visitors from Athens from Greece.Thank you again.
It's a beautiful little city with lots of historical points nearby. Have a great trip! -H
Just finished watching this video, awesome.
Glad you liked it. Thanks!! -Henry
Thanks for the upload, great quality.
So glad you liked it. These are fun to make but even better when people enjoy them and leave comments. Thanks - H
Thanks, I dream about the day I can visit UK and lots of its most important and iconic cities, meanwhile, videos like yours allow me to imagine what's like to be there. One of the things that impressed me was how clean the water of the river looks like (among other things obviously, like its architecture). How beautiful it is to see that people have taken such good care of the river in their city. Greets from Puebla, Mexico.
Scotland is an amazingly beautiful country (though so is Mexico). I hope you get to visit someday. -H
Out of the few walking tours I watched, this is my favorite channel so far. We hear what's going on in the streets and you make commentaries. Yay! 😊
So glad you liked them. Cheers. -H
Awesome. Thank you
You are most welcome. -H
You make amazing videos 😊
Everything is very beautiful 😊
When you walk we are thinking, that we walk with you 😊
Very beautiful streets and architecture 😊 So peaceful atmosphere 😊
Thank you, Henry 😊

Love reading your kind words. So glad you enjoy these walks and keep coming back. Thanks! -H
Very nice walk - favourite getaway for my silly brother, Silly Billy.
I can see why. It's so beautiful in summer. Not sure how much so in winter, but I'd be willing to give it a try. -Henry
@@CityWalks I'm sure it would be magical with a dusting of snow - about all that's needed, it seems, for our councils to be unable to cope.
@@philwification That's a good point. It would be beautiful for sure. -H
Absolutely love this type of video. Well done. Feels like walking there in person, which is what I normally do.
Thanks. So glad you enjoyed it. Take care. -Henry
Inverness is the capital of the world!!
It's a very cool city and I'd love to go back to spend more time there. -H
I just found this channel and really enjoyed this walk. Thsnk you for taking us along!

This was great for me to watch. Thank you very much for sharing. I am visiting Inverness for a short time (7 hours) and this was perfect for me to view! Fantastic
Hi Belinda, thanks so much. If you get a chance, there’s a park on some islands down at the river that is beautiful and the bookstore we passed is wonderful as well. Have a great trip.
@@CityWalks Thank you 😊 that’s very kind
Thank you so much for this. I am about to be on my first trip to Scotland and I am starting in Inverness.
Hi Susan, I'm envious. Scotland is fantastic. You can check out our Things To Do video as well: czcams.com/video/o7b7r8I60hk/video.html
And of course, we have other walks in Scotland from Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and smaller locations. Have a fantastic Trip!
Thanks for another wonderful Video! I coincidentally visited Inverness 4 weeks ago for the first time and it was fun to see the city again and in such nice weather. Looking forward to your next Inverness walk since I missed to investigate the other side of the river. Have fun traveling and all the best from hamburg. Oh, and I LOVE your Edingburgh walk. My all time favourite.
So glad you got to visit yourself. We'll be heading to Edinburgh later in the week and I hope to do a few more there in different parts. Glad you enoyed it and thanks for leaving such a lovely comment. -Henry
영상 잘봤습니다 좋은 영상입니다 You're video very nice good!!! See you!!!👍👍👍🌹🍀🤗
Thanks so much. See you! -Henry
Wow so awesome. I love how there is so much cool historic architecture, but it somehow feels more authentic and less touristy than than usual. Great work.
👍
Really amazing video. Inverness is really good for walking tour.
It really is! I wish I'd made time to do a couple more. Such a beautiful place .-H
@@CityWalks Indeed such beautiful place
I really wanted to see this. Thank you.
One of these days, I'll put myself on camera. -H
It's good that you point out important places on these walks. Not seen anybody else do that! Cheers !!
Much appreciated. Thanks for the comment and support -H
great video of my home town
Glad you enjoyed it. We loved Inverness and I wish I'd had time to do another walk along the river. So beautiful. -H
Cool video i enjoyed it
So glad to hear it. -Henry
Very nice walk, beautiful city!
👍
Wonderful video, really nice lighting and looks like a lovely place. I liked the bit when you came out of the shopping mall after the cam was pointing upwards ;) - I filmed with the OP and for part of the walk it suddenly decided to point downwards, and I didn't notice until a while later, as it's hard to see the direction of the camera head and the screen is so small it's sometimes hard to see. Keep up the great work!
Yeah, I've had some issues with that and tilting. I've started trying to film mostly in follow mode now so it stays level. Makes it hard to show tall buildings though. Thanks for watching and commenting. -H
@@CityWalks It was in tilt-lock mode when I had the issue of it suddenly pointing down, so since then I've filmed in follow mode. And I've just got it back after it stopped working, and now I can't update the software - I've never had so many issues with a device tbh.
@@watchedwalker Oofdah! That's a bummer. I've luckily had very little technical glitches with it. -H
Thank you😊
You are very welcome. So glad you enjoyed it. - H
Lovely video nice and relaxed, have you seen the CZcams videos of flash mob performances in and around the Eastgate Mall. Thanks for sharing loved the video. Will try and catch up on your others.
I haven't but I'll have a look. Thanks for the comment and suggestion and so glad you enjoyed the video. -H

I'm glad. Thanks. -H
Wonderful video. You can walk really fast! I was amazed at how much ground you covered. Thank you so much for sharing this. It is a high-quality picture and it helped me really get the feel for the town.
Thanks so much. Yeah, I’m 6’6” so I have long legs. 😁 -H
Couldn’t even cross a street in the UK when I visited Inverness in the Summer of 1991. Skei Sweater and Light Leather Jacket, too hot@, too cold always wet. Ah Scotland!
Hah. -H
Thank you so much for your walk, which was fascinating.
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed it. -Henry
WOOOOOOOOOOW 🤗🚀🌎
Thanks Linda. -H
i have been to inverness at 2 years ago, its such beautiful city in scotland. hope I have the chance to come back this lovely city
I hope so too! I'd love to go spend more time there myself -H
The walks are most always great. This one is no exception. Lovely area. Not sure when this was originally walked, but I walked it today. I think it was my third Scotland walk in three days. It is harder for me to comment because I have to find it on my computer, but I take the walk on TV (Firestick). I love all the walks and appreciate your providing these trips for us to experien.
Hi Victoria, so glad you are enjoying these. It's such a beautiful country and hope you enjoy the rest of the Scotland walks. Cheers. -H
Home sweet home
Such a great town. In summer at least. Loved walking along the river. -H
Thanks Henry! We hope to go to Inverness May 2022!
Wonderful. Beautiful city. Thanks. -H
Nice city
Very, thanks Ad El. -Henry
I live there 😄
Very cool. Love the area and the small, laid back vibe of the city. The walk along the river was just beautiful. We loved our time in Scotland. -Henry
Aiden Smith same I’m watching these to see if I can see myself
Ayyyy I live there
Very cool town. I'd love to get back and give it more time to explore. We only had the day. -Henry
I super enjoyed it. I'm planning to attend a workshop in Hill Street very near the last spot of your video. I even saw the hostel that I'm planning to book into just behind the tavern. Thank you for this! Now I have an idea of what the place the look like. I'm following the street map and your video at the same time. Sometimes I get lost like when you were at the Rainings Stairs and whenever you do short cut along an alley. It would be helpful to note the street when you're turning so that we could track the map as well. Love from Dubai!
Great suggestions that I'm doing more and more now. Hope your trip goes well and I'm glad you found this helpful. Thanks for the comment. -H
My hometown 😊
Cool place. I'd love to go back and film more of it. -H
Excellent hike! Thank you very much!
Our pleasure! -H

Welcome to Inverness!
Thanks! Such a great little city in a beautiful country. Can't wait to get back -H
@@CityWalks always welcome
Do you do any other scotland or uk walks? I'd love to visit inverness. Edinburgh is my favourite city though!
Hi Tom, Great. Here's a playlist of Scotland walks: czcams.com/play/PLYbTOisuKKIBMJOWLgGfjFVLPArspALx1.html
I was hoping to get a glimpse of the IYH hostel where I stayed in 1992. I think it was close to the center but I can't swear to it.
I don't remember seeing it but I think I found the place I stayed back in '96. All the best and thanks for watching -H
@@CityWalks I remember that day specially because I missed the last train coming back from a town outside Inverness and had to pay a taxi to take me back to the hostel, which was costly. I also recall that although the temperature was only in the 40s, the humidity was so oppressive that it felt like a summer day.
I live here and just don't know how anyone can like this city
I loved it. -H
22:22 you should have turned left. An historic site worth seeing If you come back.
Can't wait to get back to Scotland. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out. -H
There's a city I wish I had known.
It's a lovely place, in summer at least, and the surrounding area is stunningly beautiful. -Henry
@@CityWalks I believe that. Thank you, Henry.
Come pay us a visit were a beautiful welcoming city 🏴😀
Is it possible for you to export the gps map file from your GoPro, this looks like a walk others going to this city to follow, just wondering.
I haven't figured out how to use the GPS with Video on the GoPro 8 but this was recorded with the DJI Osmo Pocket which doesn't have GPS. -Henry
Absolutely beautiful and serene!, I wish I would have born in those places and enjoyed simple life
It's definitely and interesting town. -H
Simple life? Try living here.
Hi....if only you had met a local to accompany you on your walk...
That would have been awesome. I'd love to go back and film some more. -H
There’s no information is taking you to the bus station or a mall there’s so many beautiful things and interesting things in cemeteries
Ok. thanks. -H

Thanks for taking me along. My dream is to travel from the US to Europe. My ancestors have been traced to the Scottish lowlands...Edinburgh. I would love to see it for myself one day. Great video. 🇺🇲❤🏴
Oh wow! I hope you get to visit. It's an amazing country. So many great places. -H
I love to lived in scotland simple life in a beautyful country
It's a beautiful country -H
Population is actually 70,000 but that's cause city boundaries are outdated
Great. Thanks for the clarification. I do try to get my facts right but seem to make many mistakes. Great to hear the correct info. All the best -Henry
@@CityWalks You're very welcome
Reading some negative things about Inverness. If you don't like it & you currently live in this beautiful city then leave go back to where your from then if it's that bad or don't bother coming back to visit, & if your a local (By local I mean born here) then shame on you!!! Yes we have some building that aren't the prettiest but so do most city's it's about the history & the people. 🏴🏴
I loved Inverness and wish I could have filmed more down by the river. Beautiful area and city. I'm sure it has some rough edges but wonderful in my book. Thanks for your comment. -H
Tiny village, google says, population is 50 thousand
That’s one of the things I like about it. Though, in Montana where I live, 50k is a big city. Thanks for watching and for your comment. -H
Inverness, my favorite town of Highlands. I want to leave France of Macron.
It's such a beautiful city and not too big either. Thanks for watching -H
bros calves are massive
Cool. -H
The woman from this town are amzing
I have to admit, I haven't really met anyone from there other than people on the street. Thanks for watching and commenting - Henry
Aye we don't take any crap from anyone. Proper Scottish women 💪
I'd have made your walk so much more interesting...
Next time! I'll try to remember to look you up. -H
It's no wonder that wearing a ball cap makes you stand out as an American tourist. No one is wearing a hat of any kind!
Thank you JR.
people are very quiet there.. you should come to israel youll be amazed lol
I would love to come to Israel. I've heard such good things from friends that have spent time there. -Henry
im a local so maybe i cant see the good things ...
@@miki219 Yes, it's difficult to see our own homes through the eyes of others.
No thanks...I hear Palestine is beautiful though.
If you don't like it go back to Israel 🤨
I’m surprised to not see masks
This was pre-pandemic. 2017. Thanks for watching. -H
Got ya saying shit....you couldn't shoot the mall interior properly I guess!
.
An ugly, dreary, bland town with not one attractive building. A place to avoid. Very disappointing.
To each there own but I thought Inverness was quite beautiful. Unfortunately I didn’t even get a chance to walk down by the river. -Henry
