- Inverness is underrated. Well, it WAS by us. Not anymore. Join us on the morning after the night before for a refreshing walk sandwiched between one of the best breakfasts we've ever had and a hearty pub lunch. Will we feel any better by the end of it? Only one way to find out, enjoy the video...

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You may not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)
I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation and KEEP THE CAMERA ROLLING :)

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is both my business model and a result of doing everything myself. Editing takes time and I also like to schedule videos a bit in advance in case of any problems/illness/cancellations etc. Keeping my uploads appearing every Saturday is important to me, so I don’t want anything to get in the way of it. Also, I occasionally need some time off to recover from trips! But more than anything else, it's about budgets. I generally need to film a number of videos on each trip to break even. And each one of these take a while to fall into place on a Saturday morning.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc. I also have a DJI Pocket 3 (bigger sensor) for nighttime, although I’m still getting to grips with it.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotel prices especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a proper job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free. Notice I don’t have mid-roll ads though!
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links in here for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for CZcams Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Weekends are hard for me since my husband died. It’s nice to watch your video on Saturday mornings. Sometimes I watch twice. Thanks. Anywhere you go is good.
Ah bless you, hope this cheers you up x
So sorry, thinking about you. X
Please make an effort to go for a weekend away, you may surprise yourself how much you enjoy just exploring.
Go for a pub crawl in Inverness! 🤗
Of course not! But: I was working as delivery driver for a medical supplies distributor here in the Cologne-Bonn area. Among my customers were many families with members who were terminally ill. With some, I had the opportunity to have a word in four eyes and would always tell them that, when the inevitable had happened, they should go on a vacation. Just to break up their daily habits and expectations. The ones I met again later confirmed that was a good thing to do.
There's one much overlooked very benign if not sobering fact to coping with the loss of a loved one: Much of the coping is getting used to the new situation. A break from the stream of daily routines and sights is a great help there, and a holiday is a great break.
How I know? Last survivor of a family here. Done my share of grieving.
You win no points for days spent in grief, you deserve a good time and you know your hubby would have said that, too. So do something to help yourself make things easier and brighter for you!
All the bestest to you! 🤗
Steve’s posts are part of my Saturday morning ritual too. Sometimes I just let the videos run back-to-back while I take of things around the house. Heartfelt condolences about the loss of your husband, love and blessings to you. ❤
That guest house is the best I have ever seen for style presentation and excellent food. I think one would say outstanding.
My late husband decorated that hotel! Such a good position for a beautiful place.
The food looks incredible and the puppy is a good host for the house. Reminds me of the guest house we stayed at in Stirling - they had a big Scottish Deer Hound called Kishmul who kept wandering into our room,we loved him.
I belive it’s 2 night minimum and £330 for the 2 nights.
Well how much for the b& b Steve great video thanks
Due to my age and finances, I know I'll never be able to visit Scotland. That is why your videos mean so much to me. I absolutely love them, and actually feel like I'm there when I'm watching your videos.. Thanks you so much for taking the time to share your beautiful country with the world.
18:10 That's a place known as 'Ship Space' - closed since the death of the owner (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShipSpace). The four-funnel ship is a 1:10 scale model of the Titanic.
I'm guessing it's 1:100 scale model?
@@colinmacdonald5732 The Titanic was about 270 meters long, which would put a 1:100 model at 2,7 meters. The one in the video looks a "wee" bit longer than that. 😉
@@colinmacdonald5732 Titanic was 269 metres long (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanic). The model at Ship Space is definitely more than 2.69 metres long!
Used to be a Titanic museum thing on the Beauly road. You could see a big sign for it from the main road.
That should win an award from the Inverness tourist board. Regards Ken.
I don't know how many times I've watched your videos and thought "I must go there"....this one gets added to the list...what a beautiful place.
The model boat is the Titanic. The man who built it, and lived there, sadly died a couple of years ago.
When I saw the four stacks, I thought the same! Titanic. 👍🏼
My husband said straight away that it looked like a replica of the Titanic
It is Titanic. The buff colored stacks, mean White Star. The enclosed promenade deck means it's not Olympic. And the life boat davits aren't the gantry size that they put on the third sister the Britannic. Lovely model. Too bad it's out in the weather.
Wow, he was talented. That must have took him ages.
Cally Canal trip?? Wow! I'm definitely voting for that Steve!
Is Jacobite Cruises still a thing? I'm a bit out of touch with all things Inverness.
Oh that morning hangover look 😮🫣😂
What a beautiful breakfast table. You certainly chose a wonderful accommodation.
Walking around the Inverness islands is a joy. What better way to recharge. 👏👏👍😀
What a great walking tour. It really shows the beauty of Inverness.
oh my gosh! just like your last video you've taken me back nearly 50 years. working as an auditor, my colleague (stephen Higgins) and i started to walk through the islands one evening. we followed the canal towpath until we actually reached the end- the entrance to Loch Ness! with a carrier bag of beer each we stayed all night, wearing suit and tie. not bad for a couple of Manchester lads, we lit a campfire (no tent) and told drunken stories till the sun came up. Maybe 1974. unforgettable.☺☺☺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Sounds great - happy days 👍
Should have popped into Leakys bookstore, stunning wee place
My husband and I LOVE Inverness I was so excited to see you did not one but two videos on it. It is absolutely misjudged which is fine by me because that means less crowds. Also Inverness airport IS THE best airport I have ever flown in and out of. So small and easy you are in and out!
Perhaps your finest work to date, while nursing a hangover even! Or maybe due to the fact. Loved the banter, breakfast and boats.
That certainly looked a wonderful breakfast, just what is required after the night before.
I am glad you gave a shout out to the BnB, looked an awesome place to stay, and a credit to the hospitality industry.
We hired a boat from Caley Cruises. Fabulous trip (we were lucky with the weather).
Do it!
Always wondered what Inverness looked like after reading Rosamonde Pilchers book. Beautiful in warm weather, bet it is cold in the winter. Thanks!!!
Steve and Alicja, very nice vid! Göta is pronounced, phonetically, yoetah. Keep on filming and traveling!
What a beautiful walk! Thank you for taking us with you!
When the craziness of California gets too much for me I always turn to watching your travel videos to calm down a bit. They bring back so many wonderful memories of my 5 summers roaming around this beautiful land, dropping in on small town highland games, island hopping on the Cal Mac ferries, sheepdog trials, bustling Edinburgh during the festival, the music, and friendly people. Not much chance I'll make it back but I have fond memories and your videos to escape to when the news is so grim.. ❤
Alicja is an absolute delight.
Thank you both for the Tour.
My home city, love that you guys have visited!
You make a lovely couple and always go to lovely places keep it up 😊
Yes please a canal cruise
Really good video. If you have a chance, take another walk through that interesting mall with all those stores someday. Nice to see that sunshine. The windy weather added to the video also. Greetings from British Columbia, Canada.
That is some breakfast!
I have to admit the best food I’ve ever eaten is in Scotland i remember a guest house I stay in Oban quiet a few years ago no and it was all homemade and it was just out of this world something I’ll always remember
You cant go to Inverness without visiting the Black Isle. Absolutely stunning and, where my family came from
I have to go there for a break love from Ireland ❤
Your digs looked brilliant! 😁👍🥃
Passed through Inverness when doing John O Groats to Lands End with my 8 year old son last year.Inverness was our favourite destination during the trip.
Fab vid Steve! I’ve been to Inverness once in ‘18 and always wanted to go back, as per the vid I’m now just short of booking my trip. It’s going to happen. Seriously cosy promise with yum beer.
One of the best videos yet, love the entrance to the canal, and what a treasure of a guest house. Thanks Steve
That brought back some fond memories. Bought a brand new home there (well picked the land plot and standard house design) in 1998 on the hill above the exit of the canal called Scorguie. The castle in my day was the police station. The building off front your hotel on the left was just built and was a large Templeton's supermarket. I bought my kilt to left your hotel across the road and about 5 shops down on the south bank. Later in life 1987 I loaded my small 27 foot motor cruiser into the canal and made my way past Fort William and out into the Clyde. Fond memories. Maybe not of the late night trips to station for my weekly commute to Edinburgh. Mind you the dining car back to Inverness was very nice.
correction bought house 1978
Brilliant! Loved your double episode of Inverness. Thanks to both of you for the great entertainment. 😀
1 year ago I finished walking the Great Glen Way in Inverness and it is great to see the familiar sights of the city. ❤
I did the same trek you did in this video but i did it in early August two years ago and the weather was great.
Yes I can vouch for Inverness! The best city.
Leakeys bookshop that you walked past near the end is a lovely place. I highly recommend a visit. They had a wee café upstairs last time I was there too.
Definitely do the Caley Canal we've done it 3 times and well worth it. Caley Cruisers are brilliant easy to maneuver and loads of fun and very peaceful along the canal.
Everyday is holiday for you steve! I wish i could always be on holiday with the seagulls and the seaside and the wind in my hair. Well im going to llandudno north wales soon so ill have a little holiday. It cant come a moment too soon!
Thanks for showing us round Inverness . What a lovely city . It’s great how I notice things more in your videos than when I’m out n about myself !! Watching from Stansted waiting on a cheap flight to Beziers … staying a night there in a prison hotel for my big birthday today 🎉
Oh my goodness, less than a week ago I was staying a couple of streets away from your opening sequence. I wonder if your walk encompasses where I went on evening walks. I loved Inverness.
We did the first part along the river. Fabulous walk you went on next to the canal. Will certainly do that next time. BTW it’s a 2.5 hour train ride to Plockton where Hamish Macbeth was filmed. We got the first train out of Inverness and had a couple of hours there. Fabulous. It was the most glorious day with clear blue skies and wonderful views. Next time for you maybe.
Wow 😳🤩😍!
I’ve been yearning for doing one of those famous Boat-/ Houseboat trips in that very area and, of course, Caledonian Canal!
Now that you’ve shown us, your subscribers, a good insight to Inverness, I am really desperate to come 🥹🥰🫶🏻✌🏻🖖🏻!
Thanks Steve, Alicia and Mia. That was a lovely video that brought back so many memories to me. I used to live near Forres and worked in Inverness one day a week. It would make a great video or series of videos if you hired a boat and did the journey through the Caledonian Canal. Don’t worry about the weather though, I was always told “If you don’t want to do it in the rain don’t do it in Scotland!
You two are the cutest! If you haven’t before do a bit on how you two met!
Canal boat videos would be really cool to watch
Interesting co-incidence, I live in Canada, but exactly 2 years ago today we were driving from Fort William to Aberdeen. If I had seen this, we would have had to make time for Inverness.
I’ll definitely be watching this episode more than once! I’ve only driven through Inverness once, but was mightily impressed with what little I saw. Before we were married, my husband spent some time there, and it ranks as one of his favorite cities. I’m going to love rewatching this with him! All your food looked fantastic I hope I get to come back to Scotland someday. Cheers, and ATB!
Your videos are like having personal guides. Great trip thank you. Do the Caledonian canal in a boat with your wife. She really adds to your videos.
Hopefully you do a Mofest pub crawl next year, love your channel moved up here in 2022 from central belt and love it
Again a very nice video!
Caledonian Canal Cruise is a must, a couple of my friends did it, they loved it.
Do it
Do it
Do it 😊😊😊
Thank you for the tour of Inverness. My long gone grandfather lived here until he emigrated to Canada after the end of WW1 but kept returning to Scotland until his death. Even though his roots were Glascow his fave place was Inverness. The walking tour of Alicja and you is the same he took a century or more ago and it made it real for me. Thank you.
Oh Steve you have done it again, what a breakfast at the Castle Guesthouse. After watching your very interesting and enjoyable video had to make a Bacon roll😅 Both hubby and I felt hungry.
Mia certainly knows a soft touch when she sees one.
I wonder how many little bites of sausage were snuck underneath that table
I`m from Swindon, but love Invernesss, my hotel was the otherside of the river to the right of the castle
OOh what a fabulous video! You may have felt fragile but still you excelled yourselves, I loved it. Alicja cracked me up, 'I'm only half your size, I have right to feel more rough' 🤣 The Castle View Guest House...well... just wow! Awesome food, awesome dog, awesome room, awesome view! I want to go! I watched your pub crawl but somehow I missed this one & went straight to Skye 😆 I loved this as much as that one and it's always so much fun when there are the 2 of you 😉 Bless you both x
Usually...especially me...having wifey along can be a drag ...when it comes to pubs and fun...but she rocks it...lucky man Steve!!!!
This video is brilliantly timed! Just what ive been looking for ahead of my trip there on the 27th. As always, great video too!
I was there for a couple of days back in '91. Spent an entertaining evening at the bar near the blue car at 3:30. The hotel I stayed at was close to the one you did. What a beautiful town.
We’ve been to Inverness but now we see that a return trip will have to be made. You two did well on hangover day. :) we vote for a canal video with Captain Alicja at the helm. Ahoy!
The breakfasts ❤
I’m still hung over from watching last week’s video and now you are off walking around on a windy cool morning. Good for you both! Hope you are recovering in Newfoundland!
Great series on Inverness ❤️ I’m sold! Would love to do the loop/islands walk and then head up to John O’Groats (brilliant name!). Your inn was first-rate, and the breakfast, beyond amazing. 🍽️ Thanks for bringing us along!
Beautiful hotel, its been many years since we have been up to Inverness but have fond memories😊
That was a lovely trip to Inverness, thanks for showing us much more than we normally get in a video of the place. Cheers!
This was one of your very best vids,( I like them all!) you two are wonderful hosts with such humour and your B & b was superb. What a charming place Inverness is!❤. Loved the pub with my middle name! B.C.🇨🇦
Thanks Steve Alicia yea my teenage years Inverness you did manage too get Innis bar after all glad you both enjoyed no doubt lovely part of world cheers have a good week
Thank You Both for the Lovely vid of Inverness. I love all the walking you do to show us the hidden gems off the path. I’ve just added Inverness to my Scotland trip plans. ❤ both of yours sense of humor and thanks for sharing it with us!
Really great video . I enjoyed it a lot. Yes ! You should try the Caledonian canal trip !
I absolutely love Inverness and would move there in a New York minute if I could. I’ve even stayed at that very hotel!! ❤❤
Wonderful video. I want to go to Invernvess now.
oooh, this was a home run for me, living close to Inverness... I know all places & walks that you did (not all pubs though) ...I didn't camp on the river islands, but on the town side there is an official camping ground, where I once camped in the 90s... can't remember what I dreamed that night, but the next morning I made a decision, which eventually lead me to come and live up here, and I still do (Morayshire)... back to you guys: you certainly showed some sturdiness, facing the brisk wind on your hangover day... Alicja & Steve, you're a win-watch every time - hangover or no... PS. Castle view guest house looks awesome 😎💖
Awesome video lovely tour I miss doing tours around Scotland with my partner before I lost him over 5yrs now but really enjoyed your videos 👋🏻🤗😍🥰👌👍🏻💯🤍🩵💙
Coincidentally watching this with a hangover myself. I think I have unfairly written off Inverness in the past, havnt been there since I was a wee lad. What a lovely town, I'll have to make an effort to visit it soon.
City,sorry for being pedantic.😊
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. Thank you for always taking me along.
Great video! We had a weekend in Inverness last year. We travelled up on the sleeper. We didn't sleep a wink, nice bed tho!
We stayed in the hotel next to the station. Did you know that the grand staircase on the titanic was a copy of the one in the station hotel. Hootenannys was one massive party house!
I've been to Inverness a handful of times and never knew about the islands or the lovely walks the town affords. Thank you for the tour.
Please, please, please come to Sweden and do a video about Göta Kanal! I’m sure you would love a trip on the canal! The scenery is fantastic!
"Don't expect breakfast table like that at home, it's not happening!".........Cheers Steve!
My home !!
What an awesome guesthouse, so impressive!
Oh my god, Mia is so cute! 😍🥹
Another great video guys keep it up
Very nice. It’s beautiful. I didn’t spend much time in Inverness when I visited, because we did some tours to Skye and other places from there, but if I ever get to visit Scotland again, I’m definitely going to spec time in Inverness. It’s lovely!
Cheapest price I could find online for 7 nights to go full length of the Caledonian canal was £1058 which is pretty good considering it can accommodate up to five people all the best to you both, mark
Caley Cruises are very good. Did a long weekend in one of their cruisers last year, very enjoyable. Slow pace of life, lots of places to stop, admire the view, have a drink/eat. We made it as far as Laggan Locks before turning back. Eagle Barge is worth a visit at Laggan Locks, good beer, good food, good company.
Gladyou enjoyed Inverness Steve and Alicja. If you go back you must go to Fort George it's army barracks that is open to the public its brilliant
Definitely go for the canal trip, but expect a bit of hard work on it. The locks at Fort Augustus make you manually tow the boats through the locks, no motors allowed. If you want some good ice cream then go to the Stewart Tower Dairy between Bankfoot and Murthly. A good trip along quiet back roads from Coupar Angus.
Hey Steve, this beats the hell out of the other video you made last week. Thanks for a great tour of Inverness. Good to see something other than Pubs! 😵💫
I moved to Inverness from Stonehaven my home town. I absolutely love Inverness. The scenery in around the city still amazes me even after 10 years of living here. It is so friendly too, even just walking into town people will always say good morning or hello. It still has the small town feel. Ness Islands is fabulous all year round. They even have the trees lit up at night time, and at Halloween the islands is all set up with special effects, actors etc. in the summer it’s a nice place to cool down in the shade of the giant trees, in the autumn the leaves are stunning..
Thank you for another great video, I can't go exploring at the moment my illness got worse so I can't make journeys but watching the both of yours has really gotten me through some difficult times, I know that might be said a lot on CZcams but genuinely the relaxing nature and exploring and your personalities just truly helped me through some tough times. Thank you.
Loved it !!! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thanks again for the tour Steve, Its been 42 years since I've been in Inverness.
Wow - its a long, long time since I have been there!
Fabulous! Another great video. The Castle View Inn is superb, especially with Mia holding court!
Not too bad for winter - I can see there's no leaves on the trees.
But Scotland is still so much better when you can do that same walk even in the evening.!
Yet another great start to a weekend. Thanks, Steve and Alicja. Your videos are always a great lift. That thought got me to thinking about the fact that nothing lasts forever. Someday you may want to retire from video creation and making travel connections. We fans will need to come up with a plan for handling withdrawal. 😅 (Watching reruns will be good for awhile. In fact, I already do that when waiting for my Saturday morning fix feels a bit difficult. 😊) Best wishes...
