I grew up watching Bjorn Borg play and he hit massive topspin almost exclusively. Every shot of his cleared the net by a huge amount then dropped in. There was nothing like it at the time. But Rafaâs topspin is just nuts. His forehand follow-through takes his arm completely over and behind his head on the other side. It would be really cool to see slow motion camera footage of one of his shots as it clears the net. I suspect the ball is not spherical but ovoid in shape from the spin.
The most effective and dangerous shot in the history of this sport.
Itâs truly one of the most iconic shots in tennis. His spin changed the fundamentals of the sport đ„
The most destructive shot in Tennis history...Nadal's forehand is nightmare for every player including Novak and Roger..
Always love the Nadal content. Or of course, the Fedal content. Hope he can get 23 at Wimbledon!
Well I don't know of anyone else that's willing to run 38 miles around their backhand to hit a forehand (at least when he was younger). I'd consider that the reason his forehand is #1; he can literally hit it from anywhere.
Even now itâs a huge part of his game to run around backhands, although obviously heâs not as quick as he used to be.
Run backwards I mean. Nadal runs backwards faster than most people can run forward!! That sets him up for the inside out or inside in as he sees fit, and when he gets into that position there's almost nothing the opponent can do.
Haha 1:04 "Nishikori actually won the point twice, but still lost it" EPIC ! On clay, you have to play very carefully with Rafa !
3:52 this was the best for me.
Rafa and Roger are similar and also different in many aspects. However, I think we can all agree that they are both irreplaceable and unrepeatable.
Where do you rank Rafa's forehand in the history of tennis?
Top3 of all time. On clay the greatest.
@@ros8010 Yes.
1
1st
in top 3 ..and maybe ,definitely number 1 on clay..When he finds the length ,, he is terrifying
The greatest forehand of all time
Gulbis really spent all of Indian Wells 2013 watching a Nadal forehand clinic lol
It's lethality lies in its unorthodoxy. Nadal can just arm or wrist the racket or slap it flat on the run and still make it without the conventional sequence of setting up his feet and stance. The racket has huge surface area and power and spin and he will make these shots where almost anyone else would never get it past the net.
the difference between Federer and Nadal to me is:
Federer plays all the existing shots perfectly
whereas Nadal is not as much an all rounder, but he created an entire new shot with that crazy topspin forehand
Nadal actually lost a lot of power and spin over the years
I can't imagine any nextgen handling Nadal's topspin between 2005 to 2012
Iâd say Nadal is nearly as much an all rounder as Federer. I mean, what shot has he not mastered outside the serve maybe?
Also I donât think Nadal has lost much spin or power. 2005-2007 was actually when his forehand was at its weakest. Since then, he slowly ramped up the intensity. 2013 is by far his best forehand year imo, and even now his forehand is terrifying. The only thing heâs lost from his prime is a lot of speed and movement, both were at their peak in 2005-07 when his forehand was weaker.
Wait a minute. I thought this was a Federer channel.
