10-Year-Old Sammy Teusch Bullied, Mocked For His Glasses & Teeth: Father Speaks Out

  • Sammy Teusch, 10, is the baby of the Teusch family. Now in fourth grade, Sammy loves playing outside with his brothers, his beloved dog Daisy, and best friend, Judah, who lives next door. Wherever Sammy goes, people comment on his big smile that pushes his glasses up his cheeks.
While friends and family know Sammy Teusch as smart, funny, charming, and empathetic, several children at school focus on Sammy’s physical appearance. They pick on Sammy for his glasses and crooked teeth in elementary school and the bullying only intensifies in intermediate school.
On the bus home, Sammy is attacked and beaten with his own iPad. The bullies hit Sammy over the head with the tablet several times, and the boy arrives home with broken glasses, a black eye, and scratches on his face and neck. Days later, Sammy is cornered in the bathroom and beaten up again-with more threats of violence when he returns to school on Monday.
Parents, Sam and Nichole Teusch call Greenfield-Central 20 times to raise concerns about Sammy’s wellbeing and physical safety. They also receive several calls. Teachers report that Sammy is fearful at school and hides under his desk and in closets. The school says they are working to resolve the bullying, but nothing gets better for Sammy.

The mother of the girls and the girl’s brother chased my sister and I home. The mother with swinging a gun out her station wagon window. My Mom called the cops and said there was nothing they could do but they would talk to the mother! A gun! And they could do nothing. It was the 70’s things were a different time then. I told him what was going on and I asked him what he was going to do about it, his response was "Nothing, these kids have problems at home." I ended up telling him off and pulling my kid out of school for the day since he refused to protect him in any way. This is a shocking example of what is happening today in our society. No one wants to take responsibility for the terrible behavior of their children. Schools don't want to be held accountable for reprimanding students who ruthlessly bully other kids. And the people at the candlelight vigil - where were they while Sammy was being terrorized?

Such a beautiful boy’s life is lost because of bullying. I went through something similar with my son. I told him to fight back. He did. That kid never messed with him again. The schools do nothing. There should be harsh consequences for bullies. Period. Parents teach your kids kindness and to fight back.

When my daughter was in 5th grade, she was bullied horrible, to the point it went to hands on... School did nothing.
During the summer of that year I meant my now husband of 10 years, we changed counties and thus School district.
It was a great relief to see her get off the school bus with a big smile on her face.
My grandson is starting to go to the same treatment by students. He is 8 years old... We are now looking for different options for him as well.
    This has got to stop!

I was bullied my whole 9th grade year by everyone, no one would sit with me at lunch or talk to me in class except to call me names because I wore glasses. I would get spitballs thrown in my hair, tripped as I walked. I’d go home everyday crying until I went to bed and wishing I was dead. I would not kill myself for their pleasure. I am 52 now and I have taught my children to NEVER do this to anyone, in fact they made friends with bullied kids. This is so disgusting to happen!!!! Also, I was bullied in school in the 1980s, starting when I was 7 years old. They bullied me b/c of my curly hair, chipped tooth, my weight, my nose. It was the students and teacher. This has been going on. No offense, but these kids are too sensitive these days. Sorry for the family’s loss but this bullying has been going on for decades and decades. Lady, he was a TEN year old. Nothing to do with being "supersensitive". You are just putting blame on this kid by saying that. They had no right to torture him no matter what. These kids would have needed a good... cant say that on here. Now it's too late and instead of blaming this kid or his parents the parents of the kids who did cause this should be removed from their families as they will do this again to another kid one day.

@LUCKSREVENGE the family had clear examples of harsh bullying. They reported it to the school 20 times. Sensitive or "ultra sensitive" as you put it, is all irrelevant. Bullying is completely inappropriate and there should be a true ZERO TOLERANCE policy by the school district. Parents of the bullies, school district and bus driver hold the blame on this! People shouldn't have to "survive" bullying. We can do better!

My son was bullied so badly and beat up so violently for just existing at school, that we had to pull him out and put him in independent study. Even though he had tons of friends and was involved in many of school activities, these kids just wore him down. He’s just a normal boy to me. But to kids at the school he’s fat and bald and ugly. I was bullied at school and psychologically abused at home and not allowed to stand up for myself. This was back before internet and social media. I was brutalized and the school did nothing. I wasn't a popular student, I was kind to everyone even those who bullied me. The school doesn't look out for the social misfits, the awkward kids, the quiet, shy ones. But will go out of their way to berate and tear down the children who are being bullied. I am 54 years old and still suffer from the shit that went down when I was in school and well home was a little different because of my situation. No child should ever be bullied and it all comes down to the school taking the side of the bullies rather than the victims of their cruel, malicious, sometimes evil ways of hurting the so called "weaker". I am grateful to have grown up before the internet and social media. Let's face it, in this case it is the school's fault, in this day and age tormenting children in a school setting should be a thing of the past and not holding bullies accountable for their actions because they are popular, their parents are rich, whatever excuses that are given, should be they way it is. Entitlement of the bullies and their parents need to be called out . I so sorry for what happened to you and your family Sammy
