- Hours after leaving her 2-year-old son, Giovanni, with friend McKinley Slone Hernandez, Stefanie Reichert gets a text message from Hernandez telling her she needs to rush to St. Anthony's Hospital. The hospital contacted her as well. Reichert rushes to the hospital to see Giovanni surrounded by nearly 50 doctors. Then the decision is made to airlift Giovanni to a hospital for an emergency operation to treat a bleed on the brain. The brain swelling ultimately necessitated the removal of part of the skull to reduce pressure.
Emergency surgery saves Giovanni Reichert's life. Doctors tell Stephani Reichert that her son has suffered blunt force trauma injuries to his head and body. As Giovanni fights for his life, McKinley Slone Hernandez refuses to tell anyone what happened. The only thing Hernandez will say is that she was drinking and he got hurt in her care. McKinley Slone Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and cruelty toward a child nearly three months after causing serious injuries to the boy’s head, neck, and arms. She is now officially charged with felony child abuse.

My heart breaks for him and his family. I’m 36 yrs. old. I was beaten into a coma when I was his age by a boyfriend of my birth mom’s. I was adopted by an amazing family. I’m thankful I don’t think of my past at all. Gio is a fighter for sure.

My father did this to me at about the same age. To this day, as I face a soon approaching seventieth birthday, I have excruciating pain all over my body every day.
This breaks my heart so much that I just want to bawl my eyes out for little Giovanni. I'm so glad to hear that he received the medical care he needed and that he is recovering as well as he is.
I'm going to pray for this little guy and his parents. The psychological wounds cannot be seen with the physical eye, but they are there. I pray that the wounds to his little spirit will be healed.
I just don't understand how some people can be so wicked. I hope the appropriate justice comes to the person who did this. Otherwise, we cannot call ourselves a civilized society.

I was blessed by a wonderful neighbor who offered to watch my five year old son when I had to go back to work when i was divorced in 1985. She was a Saint and had a little boy Tony's age! A Christian woman who became my little ones caregiver. It hurt so much to leave him everyday Monday thru Friday ! But I knew my little guy was safe. I was a single parent in the Air Force. First thing my commander told me was even if it was a base daycare center to just show up unannounced. I actually caught a woman at the base daycare center abusing my son verbally racially. No one would stop her and they had multiple complaints - people took their kids out of that day care center at Scott Air Force Base. The biggest advice I can give to anyone is to show up at any time. If the daycare provider tells you you can’t just show up then there’s a HUGE red flag. So sad & sorry this happened ♥️💜
I would also show up unannounced to my son's daycare. I also would mark his diaper he was wearing before drop off and kept count of the ones in his diaper bag to see how often he was changed
Usually give mom a No Tresspass in Colorado if a mother complains.

I'm in the UK and only just found this channel a few days ago, the emotion I can hear and feel in Nancy's voice make me feel like she really care about these poor victims.
She really does because she was a victim herself when her fiance was murdered years ago. So the emotion is 100% authentic as she knows what most of the victims families are going through.
It goes so much deeper than being drunk. I think she had intentions when she asked to have her son stay over to give her a break.
Exactly! She thought she could explain away his injuries by claiming they were from camping etc. The child actually stopped breathing and thru a wrench in that plan.

Also they said he was cooperating and you would think if it were him that once they got her away from him that she would tell it was him. Plus, the father said that Gio had said the babysitter had pushed him before. It’s scary to think this might not have been the first instance of abuse or even the only child she has abused. It also makes me wonder if the babysitter was jealous of the mom and took it out on her child because I can’t think of any other motive. You don’t lose your temper and beat a 2 year old half to death I think she had a motive. With that said, Idk how anyone could do this to a child but she’s clearly a monster.
This is horrible! I work with Gio’s Aunt Suzie and she told me what happened from the beginning. I’m so glad that he has recovered physically. I hope the babysitter gets locked up for a long time.
She needs a life sentence because I call what she did to Gio attempted murder..LIFE SHOULD MEAN LIFE.

OMG! Any time my friend asked me to watch her children I was so honored and careful. I almost took better care of someone else's children than my own! These stories are the absolute worst for me.

I run an inhome daycare and I am so careful with these children. It breaks my heart to know that there are evil people like this in the world.

it took many years for my girls to get pregnant,& when it happened I was over joyed.
When they talked about daycare my heart hit the floor .
My own children never had a babysitter .
I was scared to death of anyone caring for my owe children.
I understood both of my girls liked working had great jobs .& wanted to go back to work.
So daycare came up many times .
Well I didn’t calm down until I found out the daycares had cameras in them & had video cameras you could look at anytime of day .
We could watch the little ones playing eating snack making friends .
The care givers would send pic to the parents. & is the grandparents still photos of the little ones sleeping .
Thank goodness for the care these daycares have given to my grandchildren.
I feel so much better . & I know they are safe & receiving the best care.
My heart is broken for this family , I can’t believe this happened to your baby.

There are cases that go unreported. There are deaths that go unreported. You shouldn't say things like this, because you may lead someone to choose a caregiver based upon their sex; overlooking red flags that this person is an abuser. People do your homework. Research your possible caregiver. Dig deep. Look for their flaws.

I don't understand why these types of evil people are in the industry to care for anyone or anything, like pets. Nursing homes, hospitals and daycare centers are constantly talked about because some monster is abusing or un-aliving innocent people. Even some boarding places for dogs have been guilty of hurting and beating innocent animals.
When my daughter was little, I was changing her diaper, as soon as I reached for her wipes, she rolled off of the bed. She only had a small bruise from it. If baby Gio fell like my daughter did, there’s no way he would be on the brink of death with that many injuries. God bless this baby boy and his family for all they have been through. I’m so glad to see he’s doing better and healing well ❤

My brother adopted a little boy who went through the same thing. He was beaten by the mother’s boyfriend. Little Jordan will never be the same. He is paralyzed on one side of his body and has to wear a helmet to protect his head. They had to remove part of his skull due to the swelling of the brain. Sooo sad. I LOVE that you reassured the Dad and making sure he knows he did everything right- because we as parents carry so much guilt when anything happens to our children on what we could or should have done differently to protect them from anything and everything and I’m sure he truly needed that reassurance. He was truly brave to open up and let other parents know that no matter how big or small whatever it may be that your child is trying to tell you- to pls listen to them. One thing I always wished I had done more of raising my sons was ask more questions because there was so much I didn’t find out about until they were grown that I wish I could have been there for them Thru. So; my advice would be to be that nosy parent and know there’s not enough questions in this world that u could ask your child and learn more ways to help them. - they are truly a gift from God- and my Heart truly goes out to these parents who obviously love their children and could have never imagined this happening. I think it was really kind of Nancy to make sure this Dad heard those words of reassurance during this time; and I’m sure that helps him so much more then we could imagine. A little reassurance goes such a long ways- esp to a parent who just went thru a trauma with their child. My prayers are definitely with them during their recovery and this whole court process ahead ❤🙏🏼

That psychiatrist is right. There are times and traumas in your life that will be permanently etched in your brain. I walked in last year (my son's senior year of HS) and found him dead. I did CPR and could not save him. I have his face, eyes , everything down to the smell in my mind and I have never gotten it out of my head. I see it daily, I have nightmares about it, I open his bedroom door and have flashbacks. So bad I haven't been able to go into his room for longer than 4 minutes. The terror and trauma it causes a person who finds their beloved child in bad condition or dead NEVER gets better and the memory NEVER dulls. The pain is always there to be cried by turning your head away when with friends or hiding at times that are supposed to be "fun". Life is never the same.

I'm a nanny currently. I have been a daycare teacher my entire adult life. It's a tough job, but a great one. I'm so sorry my friend. You are a good mom.
This is nothing but sheer cruelty. The bite mark proves what a hateful evil animal she is. She babysat for her friend because she needed (what she thought) would be easy money and later realized she could make a lot more money by posing as a loving caregiver to trusting parents. It wasn’t an accident. It was brutal. It makes me wonder how many times she got away with hurting this precious child and others before this incident. It takes a really evil heart to do what she did to a baby who can’t even defend himself 😢

This made me tear up and my heart is breaking for little Giovanni. This woman is so evil. I cannot imagine hating a CHILD! He had to have a shunt placed. This woman should be behind bars for the rest of her life. I can't even express how this breaks my heart. I'm at about 30 minutes into listening. I'm pretty sure if I had any contact with this "friend" I'd be in jail myself. Then I heard how little this woman had to say about what actually happened. A defensive someone may tend to over-explain. I'm seriously wondering if the woman knows what happened in her drunken stupor, or if she may be protecting her man......just a gut feeling.....horrific either way. Bless Giovanni and his mother 🙏🙏🙏

I am in tears over what happened to this sweet baby. I am praying for a COMPLETE recovery for this sweet little boy. He reminds me of my baby boy who is 40 years old now. Gods blessing to this sweet family.
I am old now & my children are in there 30's I never needed a baby sitter since I didn't need to work I only had my parents or our relatives to watch our children if we were going out for a bit . But now I would tell people have someone watch your children at your own house & MAKE SURE THERE ARE CAMERAS EVERYWHERE IN YOUR HOUSE SO you can see & watch that everything is ok !!!!! I'm the kind of person that I Do Not trust people !!!! Its the only way to make sure you babies are safe ❤

Looking after a child is a huge responsibility - especially toddlers because we need eyes in the back of our head.If anyone asks to take your small child overnight despite you not needing a sitter - say no thanks and make sure they are never alone with your child again.Some folk with 'issues' need a helpless victim to abuse and don't have the guts to pick on someone their own size. I send all my best wishes to this little boy for a full recovery from the injuries and trauma suffered..and his mom.
I will never understand how anyone let alone a caretaker can ever hurt such a innocent little one they are so innocent and rely on us it disgust me There's not a powerful enough excuse I'm sorry. Absolutely heinous your right Nancy it a mother's number 1 responsibility is to love and protect our babies but I fortunately there is to much evil in this world it's sickening. Amazing how ONE person does and can change the course of so many generations: forever.
It’s stories like this, which is why I stayed home and never ever put my daughter in daycare and have never hired a babysitter. She’s 9 now and has only been watched by family members to this day. I’m so sorry this has happened with a trusted friend.
Same girl. When I first got pregnant I made a promise to do whatever I could to make sure I was the one to raise my kids. No one besides my mom,grandma and aunt have watched my children and they are 5 and 3 and I didn’t even let them alone with their other grandparents until they were old enough to talk
Hell I haven't even allowed family . I've always cared for my child. But again not all families are safe or responsible I just didn't want to chance because honestly even the best person could be dealing with stressors we are not aware of. I'm not saying your guys family isn't trustworthy or I'm better because I haven't taken chances. I'm just explaining why I feel the way I do ❤

I left my son with a family member, luckily the abuse was not anywhere near to this extent and I realized it quickly and got him away. Propel like this should not walk on this earth. I hope little Giovanni makes a full recovery. His parents sound like caring and honest people. I wish this hadn’t happened to them. 💜

...it’s fractures my heart every time I read about the abuse of babies/children and those adults now that were subjected to it. For those who are reading this, I pray that you are all happy and in a much better place, surrounded by love from that terrible past. I’m so sorry this happened you.
