It's a lateral move this year but Guentzel is *miles* better 5v5. Stamkos has become a PP specialist. And Guentzel will be much better in the later years of the deal.
I agree, but the main problem for Tampa is the psychological effect of not having their longtime captain anymore. It’s just not going to feel the same anymore
@@GWh135 i disagree. Hedman makes a very easy and very obvious Captain replacement, and it works.
As a Tampa fan the way we're treating Stammer is painful
kinda reminds me of how they treated Vinnie and MSL
Listen. I'm as a big a Lightning fan that exists. Vinnie L. didn't finish his career in Tampa. Neither did Marty. Neither did Gretzky (in EDM obviously). You don't pay a 34 year old 4x8. That's just bad business. He's a PP specialist at this point in his career. He'll have his number retired and go into the HoF as a Bolt. They are "treating" him in a way that's best for BUSINESS. I suppose, IF you'd rather be a WORSE team but keep Stamkos...that's your right. Personally? I'd rather be a better team and be in a better financial (cap) situation WITHOUT a given player. Ultimately, a "fan" cheers for the laundry. Not the player.
Tampa has understood that hockey is business first of all... They saw they were falling off the cliff so they're trying to get younger/faster and keep themselves in the hunt... The core isn't that old to need a rebuild... they lost speed/talent after the cups and tried to replace it with size and physical play... that didn't work so now they're trying to readjust and add more skill & speed.
It aint as deep as you and so many others are making it.
He got offered a 8x3. He took a 4x8 in Nashville. Apples and oranges, but the door for him to stay was open. He chose money of potentially winning and retiring here.
Stamkos output on 5 v 5 has declined significantly.....stats are misleading
Nashville needs to consider the Panthers approach: flopping and diving a little more to draw some extra penalties, then Stamkos can keep those numbers up
@@GWh135 he's not playing with Kuch anymore on the pp.. he can get 10 pps a game he's not putting up the same numbers
I dare say I like you guys as much as I like the Tsn coverage. Best quality hockey new /content on CZcams thanks for all your hard work.
Stamkos had a good offensive year but he was one of the worst defensive players in the league and we were consistently outscored with him on the ice.
Like Steve said, with players like him the last thing to go is his shot, but the rest of his game has already started to turn.
Guentzel's spatial awareness + Kucherov's passing is going to be 🔥
Not a bad signing considering he was one of the best goal scorers available in FA
Stamkos had 40 goals but 19 were on the power play. He will always be a bolts legend, but his decline in play at 5 v 5 has been concerning.
Also you cant forget that one of Jake’s best assets is his playoff production
So more than 50% of his goals came 5v5 is what you’re saying.
Guentzel's numbers will improve playing with Kucherov. I love Stamkos to death and am pissed how we treated him but these guys acting like it's a lateral move clearly haven't watched the games.
@@tampabay2214 ok American.
Bolts fan and I agree
Tampa has proven they can go on deep playoff runs and even win it all without Stammer in the lineup in the past, it hurts to say but I don't think he's quite the key player a lot of people think he is. Hurts to lose him, but TB management clearly doesn't see him as part of the Lightning's long term future.
Even in 2020 though Stammer was still in the locker room and on the bench motivating his team to win for him. Now we don’t have that anymore :(
@@GWh135 but we have McDonagh back
It’s probably Hedman, but a Kucherov captinancy would be great content
kuch is an amazing player but there is no way he is a leader haha. Everyone probably loves the guy but I just can’t see him being the strong leader in the room.
Steve was right, Guentzel is a massive upgrade over Stamkos. The reason for Stamkos' high production last season was simple: Kucherov. Don't forget Kuch had 144 points and the main beneficiary of that was Stamkos, especially on the PP. Just to highlight how bad Stamkos did at 5v5, he finished the season with a team-worst -21 despite playing mostly with Kucherov (+6).
Love JBB's guts! PP specialist is right- No Backchecking-Passes to nobody when pressured- fumbles passes often- Does not check until the playoffs- I used to run the Blog Lightning Hockey Central and contributed to the Southeast Shootout blog- Been a Bolt and Stamkos fan since he was drafted. Holding on to the past robs you of the future. Simple as that.
"Make the argument that it's enormous"
Steve has had plenty of practice at that in sure.
Guentzel is so much better 5 v 5…Stamkos is basically a PP specialist. Guentzel-Point-Kucherov is probably and arguably the best line in hockey
As a Tampa fan, stammer also played with kuch. And we will miss him.
Stammer had become a liability 5v5. It needed to be done.
Let's go Bolts! He wasn't gonna sign for $4 million, he got double that.
Stamkos and lightning is exactly like kane and blackhawks
The Predators are to Tampa what the Red Wings are to Chicago
You guys just completely fail to mention that Stamkos was playing with Kucherov, now imagine what can Guentzel do with Kuch
@@MedineBABA they talk about Stammer's goals, but Jake had 77 points in 67 games, came off an injury and joined a whole new team and was killing it.
I Agree. Stamkos without kuch doesnt put up nearly as much points. Feel his drop off is going to be pretty decent with Carolina.
8x8 wasn't enough, huh? Damn.
Stamkis was playing with Kucherov and Point! Hence his goals!! Played with them for all those years!
Ryan McDonagh was one of the best defensive d in the league. tampa just needs better goaltending now
Hate how he was treated is literally an icon in Tampa Bay.... and in no way am I defending this move btw....but the underlying numbers indicate that he got his goals and assits of late by benefiting from playing with Kucherov. He himself was a Kucherov merchant the past two years, hurting the lines plus minus. The logic is get someone who can score at the same rate but also better defensively and you're better. Almost Half of his goals were on the power play
McDonagh > Sergachev
Come on Steve wake up
as a penguins fan the best fact about Jake is that he helped us win 2 cups before he stopped basically eating chipotle every night for dinner.
He helped us win 1 Cup.
I was about to say he was a rookie during the 2017 cup 😂
The Lightning being unwilling to give Stamkos $4m/year is criminal.
They dont know what the offer was. I guarantee that wasnt what stamkos was asking for lol
Necas is better for Carolina imo
The relationship is broken beyond repair… even if the Canes fail to trade him, he’s gonna want no part of the organization going forward. Worst situation to find the team in
a little surprised Guentzel got more than Reinhart
UFA vs RFA Reinhart would get $11 mill on the open market.
@@jaythompson5102Reinhardt was a UFA
@@jaythompson5102 They were both UFAs, and also both benefit from lower tax brackets playing in Florida, hence the comparison
@@alexmouton1010 Ya my bad I thought Reinhart was an RFA. I really can't explain it he should have gotten way way more.
Consistency. Reinhart won't score 50 again
Tampa saw what Vegas did to fleury and they were like hold my beer lol
Thank you for saying his numbers out Jesse. Stamkos deserved better. For his current age, its amazing he's producing the amount that he is.
His numbers are misleading. He cant bring Kucherov with him to Nashville so those numbers are not even close to sustainable. I would be shocked if he had a 60+ pt season.
No class by the Lightning. What shame it really is....
It's a business.
@@hydedrjekyll Loyalty should still be valued in any business
@@GWh135that 8 mil a year should ease the pain🙄 its hockey dude
Terrible signing! This guy only benefited from Crosby. Major trash without.
I hope Tampa just starts to fall apart and realize how much they miss Stammer.
Can't think of anyone on here that rates your hopes, troll. 👍
@@hydedrjekyll I don’t know what that means, but I’m assuming you like to call yourself a Giga-Chad. Have fun in grade 9 this fall!
As a Lightning fan I can’t help but to agree with you. Guentzel is great but letting Stamkos leave was a huge mistake
@@ML-my8qq It feels weird to say you're old and out of touch considering I'm old, but hey.
