  • After my drive up, I dive into the reasons as to why I purchased this car and how it resonates with me in my life currently. Being a car enthusiast my entire life, I've always wanted one car to own a lifetime, and I found it. Having to experience a brand new sports car in this way means the world to me, and I wanted to share it. I'm excited for what this journey will bring and hopefully ya'll do also :)

    I feel the same too. My 10th anniversary GR86 is the first brand new sport car I have ever brought. I used to own a few sports cars in the past, but all of them were second-hand. They were all JDM 90s cars. I have always said to myself that I wanted to buy a brand new sport car where I would be the original owner before gas engines were discontinued. I was looking at a lot of cars, but none of them ever triggered a desire for me to want to buy any of them, even when they were way faster and had way more horsepower than the GR86. Speed and power aren't what I'm after because anything can be fast these days. The GR86 is fast enough for me, so when the new GR86 came out, I was sold, especially the 10th anniversary GR86, because I just love the orange look it makes the car look a bit exotic too. It's just something about the first that makes it feel special, like your first love or kiss lol. You get what I mean. Since it's going to be the last of its kind, it has a naturally aspirated engine, manual transmission, two doors, light weight, and rear wheel drive. I'm planning to keep it forever and pass it down to my son as a family heirloom. Even if, in the future, I have other sport cars that are better than the GR86, I would still rather sell them and keep the GR86 because nothing can ever replace the first. That is my story, lol.

      Thank you for sharing your story! I also wanted the 10th anniversary, but the dealership didn’t allocate one until this one came. Congrats on getting one 👏🏽 I totally understand the 90’s nostalgia, as all I’ve ever owned were hand me down 90’s Japanese cars. Nothing wrong with that, but my desire also grew to be an original owner of a car and to keep it for a lifetime. The new car market is a little funky as I didn’t see many sports cars I would want to own. When the FRS came, I knew it was something special. Once this 2nd gen GR86 was announced, I had a feeling it was going to be a car I’d want to purchase. Like you said, big horsepower and straight line speeds aren’t always what makes a car fun. A well balanced machine with enough power and amazing handling gives you so much thrill when taking the turns. Haha, it kinda is like a first love that you never forget. This GR will definitely mark a moment in time representing how great driving machines were meant to be. I think your son will appreciate the story and the meaning of this car. Teach him well 🙌🏽😃

    Congratulations on the car. Please join us at the 86 Cup. Note. You'll need to find 17" wheels up to 8" wide that fit your brembos for stock class. That way you can run the GT Radial SX2 225/45/17 tires. See you out there.

    My dad use to have a red ae86 gts coupe I loved that car so much later on during my teens I bought a 240sx hatch (grandma owned) I luv it so much but this is my second one now and now that I’m seeing these come out I rlly want one because they look amazing and my dad had the older version of this, but idk if I should sell my 240sx 😅

      Oh man, that must have been cool growing up with it. My 1st car in high school was an ‘88 non-turbo Supra. The 2nd car was a ‘90 240sx hatch. I loved that thing. I’m on my 5th S-chassis now lol If you can manage, have both! Each are unique in their own ways but oddly enough, the GR reminds me a lot of the S-chassis with proper suspension and wheel/tire/brake combo.

    Do you notice a big difference on the breaks then the stock 2023 GR86 breaks? The 23 anniversary edition solar shift doesn’t have those breaks stock.

    I just test drove this car 2 days ago. I was very disappointed. It felt cheap, and like a toy, but for young kids who have never had a decent car, it probably feels great, and the price is too high, gas mileage is terrible. I would not buy this car. I would spend a bit more and buy a 4 cylinder turbo charged Lexus RC. Much better quality and much faster.

    • @shift__robinson
      @shift__robinson  Před měsícem +4

      Usually disappointment comes from expectations that are not met. What were you comparing this to? If you’re comparing it to the Lexus RC, that’s like comparing apples to bell peppers. The RC is a touring car, not a sports car. Lexus is a luxury brand, not a performance brand. There are many variations of drivers cars, and its okay that the 86 isn’t your cup of tea. It however definitely isn’t overpriced considering new sports cars in today’s market. With today’s safety regulations and technological advances, it’s really difficult for any manufacturer to keep prices at 30k or below starting msrp. Sports cars are toys, age isn’t a factor in how a car makes you feel, its the best bang for your buck in today’s new car market, and the target audience may not care about gas mileage however the mpg’s might be terrible compared to a hybrid. If you look back in history, what makes a car a great drivers car, is beyond all of those things you mentioned. Costs have to be cut somewhere, but what Toyota didn’t fall short on, was delivering a enjoyable, affordable, and practical drivers car that the masses could attain. Ask any driver from any decade, and they’ll tell you that it isn’t about how fast a car goes to be considered a drivers car, but the journey and the way it makes you feel along the way.
