    Glad to hear a professional doesn't consider the GR86 "slow."
    225 hp in a RWD 2800-lb coupe is not "slow."
    Drove me crazy when reviewers dogged on the first-gen's power. Not everything is a drag car! Some of us like to enjoy corners more than straight line speed.
    My Honda fit has just over 100 hp and it slays in the corners. I would never consider it "slow." I feel the same about Miatas.

    I've owned a 2018 86GT for about a year and a half. Bought it for a daily driver to augment my 2003 Tundra I bought new and has been basically trouble free... I just wanted something newer to drive to work. I'm sixty years old and I LOVE my 86 (33mpg). It has just enough power to be a LOT of fun but won't get me into too much trouble. I do have an Open Flash tune in it and I may do headers eventually but that's down the road. I really like the second Gen GR86 but I just don't want to take on a longer car payment plus Kentucky's yearly tax on newer vehicles is criminal.

  • @stms4411
    @stms4411 Před rokem +5

    Excellent video - thanks. As for the manual, I definitely feel a difference (for the better) in my 2022 gr86 vs the 2013 or 2017 brz I owned. Better engagement and feel than the quite notchy gen 1 cars. As for durability, I’m only 4 months into ownership but I think the problems come from owners beating on the cars and not possessing the skill to drive quickly and avoid adrenaline causing needlessly hard shifting. Being smooth makes you faster.
    As other reviewers have mentioned, the fundamental upshot of the bored out motor is that the “torque dip” of the old 2.0l model is all but eliminated. In real world driving, it makes this a much more enjoyable sports car to own.
    Wonder if this thinner cylinder walls make for long term reliability concerns.
    I also don’t have any problems triggering the armrest opening, but I agree that it could have been designed more intelligently.
    Most importantly, I learned technical things about the generational comparison that no other content provider has shown me….thanks!

    I love how well detailed and thorough you are! You go deep into the details! Down to the small ones. Actually that was my second Toyota car! When I heard that Toyota and Subaru where on a joining venture to produce a rear wheel drive back to basics sports car! I had to own one, mine was the first edition 2013 blue Scion FR-S. What a great little sport car that was, the car wasn’t a super fast car! But it was fast enough and it handled very well on the twistiest roads of willow springs road and country side Illinois. The only thing I couldn’t drive it during the winter months, way too dangerous for my taste! So the car sat in the garage parked during the winter. I only drove it in the summer and on nice dry sunny weather. So I used to drive my wife’s suv at the mean time, So when my wife had to start driving to north shore for her job, I had no choice but to trade my car for something I could drive in all weather. So I ended up trading it for a Jeep Wrangler. I really didn’t want to trade it! But had no choice. Boy now that I moved to Arizona I’m looking for a low mileage great condition one! But the prices for a great used one with low mileage are to the roof!! Great video my friend!👌😎👍

    The 2017 facelift of the 86 included some of the 'new' interior features he describes. Also, I heard no mention of the significantly increased fuel consumption, which is not merely a question of cost, it reduces the old car's 'adequate' range. But for sure, the GR has a much improved overtaking ability and is significantly more refined (less cabin noise and without odd extraneous noises).

    • @AntonHu
      @AntonHu Před 6 měsíci

      @@twhalenI'm not convinced that the road noise is greater in the GR than the GT. It is certainly more noticeable because other noise sources have been damped out. Great video. Can I retro fit the sound tube in my GR86? I loved the intake howl of the old car.

    Wonderful video. Thank you very much. I am curious about something more generally, you said direct injected engines don't have much vacuum? I'm trying to understand why that is. Can you explain one day?

    Hi, I know you did a Supra video already, but would you be able to do another one for the '23 manual transmission please, and maybe long term engine issues/updates on previous videos re: B58?

    it's a mod to retro fit the forester turbo oil cooler on the old engine. both used similar engines and nearly all the parts fit.

    I read a article that said that Toyota was experimenting with putting a turbo charged 3 cylinder in the GR86. Sounds pretty cool.

      Toyota have indeed fitted the GR Yaris / Corolla engine in to a few GR 86 but there not production prototypes, there just testbed vehicles for synthetic fuels & racing development.

    I own a 2016 scion frs and everytime I take it out somebody asks me if I want to sell it. The frs looks nicer than the gr86 but that's just my opinion!

    AMD, what is your opinion about the RTV issues the GR 86s are experiencing? I just got my 2023 GR 86 and am thinking of having the oil pan dropped for a thorough inspection at the 1K break in oil change. I know I may be on the hook for the cost but am willing to absorb it for peace of mind. Will ask the dealership though if they'll cover it under waranty/goodwill claim if there IS RTV blockage of the oil pick up tube. Your thoughts?

    Great video! I loved my 13 BRZ in dark grey metallic. It was the slowest and most fun vehicle I’ve ever owned. I bought it out of excitement that Toyota was dipping its toes into bringing a exciting vehicle back to the market. I went to a Toyota dealer and looked a a FRS w/o keyless and found the key to be in a poorly placed area with the ergo of the handbrake. So Knew I needed the keyless that the brz premium offered. Had a blast picking the car off of a car hauler with some wrapped brzs. Even had a infant and the small seats made have a baby in car easy because we just could reach back anytime my daughter needed anything. She also loved riding around in it and would fall asleep in the car all the time maybe because it’s so bumpy. Either way it was a great car and even made for a good car with an infant.

      2013-2020 BRZ Premium doesn't have keyless entry and push-start. It has the same turn-key ignition as the FR-S. Only the BRZ Limited has keyless entry and push-start.
