Tipping does not make customers experience better but worse..
It really needs to come to an end. When Europe can do it we can. When Japan and S Korea can provide better service without tipping, i think we can.
What’s most ridiculous about tipping is when we are asked to tip for a take out and at kiosk. This is nothing but guilt tripping cusotmers
Excellent comment expecially about take out ( example Starbucks/ macdonalds etc ) and kiosk
I'm tipping less. I just say no when prompted. This is crazy.
i did not know people usually tip at Shake Shack. Granted, we don't have a Shake Shack locally, but we do have a 5-Guys & i figure they're similar. I'm not sure how common it is to tip folks at 5-Guys, but i don't really tip at 5-Guys since i only order takeout from them.
10% that’s that..
If it's a shame, why are you waiting for the government to do anything and pay what's not shameful instead of tipping?
I like to stop local businesses, but when you put tipping suggestion % for pickup coffee order or buying a bagel at the counter is wrong. The menu is already over price.
Tipping is out of control
They’re making $50 per hour! I don’t even make that much. Why should I tip them?
nagging tax
The make $50 WITH tips
They came to my house to install some shades the other day, and the installer, was like; If you want to tip it is optional.
I am like… what? I paid you for the service. STFU. Bye.
50cent - 1€ euro is fine in germany! we say round it up, sometimes just a quarter, best you can do.
Some restaurants refuse creditcard because of tipping, thats shady
i had a better experience at Shake Shack HK than i ever did in SS San Mateo during the Pandemic
SF bay area tipped earned min minimum wage $15/h
i never drink alcohol
chinatown restaurants always had tipping for all. in fact when i went to Harris's Steak 2018 or 19, i asked the waiter if tipping served the other restaurant workers & he replied yes
Don't think the service boom will continue for much more than a year. People still have savings, but credit cards are starting to max. Americans won't be able to live beyond their means forever.
Is it me or is this guy ridiculously un-selfaware. Mr Rich Guy becomes the spokesperson for not tipping. Here is an idea, dont be a cheap guy and dont complain about throwing a hard working person a buck or two. I will never go Shake Shake again.
Ever wonder why we pay SALES TAX for the business ? The biz gonna pay tax anyway
Did he get his lube before bending over for illegal actions? Just because someone in a suit tells you to break law and you do doesn't mean you won't go to jail. Oh well, guess he's one of those spirit cookers ready to give it up for Joey. Wait, he cooks so is he going to start working for Barri?
I tip pizza delivery drivers, that’s it!
I don't agree with this at all, maybe in some parts of the country but in other areas that are hard hit by inflation and increased poverty, people do not have disposable income to go to a restaurant or bar, commonly people would use credit cards but many people are tapped out now and interest rates are going higher and they haven't paid off their Christmas credit card debt like they did in the past.
Costs for restaurants really cuts the profit margin especially the mom-and-pop and single-entity restaurants more so than the major chain restaurants, that buy in bulk.
Somebody's gaslighting the public with the voo do that they do do numbers. I can assure you, inflation is worse than ever, in every aspect of life, nobody's kidding anybody.
Didn’t he fire non vaccinated workers 😂😂😂
Don't be a "crusty tipper"!
Fine dining should never, ever be part of the “tipping fatigue” discussion. It is imperative that folks tip VERY WELL at these establishments, because the service, the food, the ambience has ALWAYS been the elevated experience that people leave their homes for. If any diner has any problems with tipping at the fine dining establishments, they should should have some class just stay home! Union Square Cafe has always provided the kind of fine dining experience that those of us who love that restaurant and others like it; we truly cherish the memories we have from eating there for many, many years. Always a favorite!
Where some patrons like myself are having an issue is at the fast/casual/coffee/gelato/sandwich/croissant/bagel/takeout spot level. Post-pandemic, at ALL of the various chains we love so much in the 5 boroughs, the service and the quality are uneven; the prices are much higher than they were pre-pandemic when tipping didn’t exist for these types of eateries; and in some of them, the customer is the cashier; and we are competing with mobile orders that get prepared before the in-person ones; and we are expected to tip after the self-checkout; wait for the food items, and then double check the order after waiting for it, while with the delivery guys who are clear their order is THE priority barge in to snatch up their orders; and often the order is not up to the standard of the pre-pandemic versions. What exactly is the customer tipping for?
We know NYC is an expensive place to live. We get it. We want all of our favorite eateries to be around providing our favorite food items so we can brag about which one is best to each other and to visitors. But we will not accept that tips are an entitlement for subpar service, okay food, with no ambience. If that’s what is going be offered when that tip option appears on the POS screen before checking out, the business is going to suffer in the long run. There shouldn’t be any “tip tension” when buying street/ casual food items while roaming around the streets of this city.
You are arguing against yourself. The whole concept of tipping is ludicrous, I’d rather those restaurants just do a 25% price increase instead of forcing an ambitious guilt tax. No other country except Canada has this kind of stupid system.
What’s next? We going to start tipping doctors, dentists, self-checkouts? Why am I being asked to tip at subway or when I’m picking up my own pizza.
It’s time businesses set their prices as actual prices.
I have been asked to tip at self-checkout! For real! 😂
@@holyscytheShe is not arguing. She is explaining 1. Only top tier level restaurants deserve if any the tipping due to the fine dining.
2. She is against the BK or McDonald’s like restaurants or Coffeshop be tipping.
Bro we get it. Your family is rich and you can dine there and tip highly for many many years and it's your favorite. Stop boasting on the internet.
