Steve Nicol is a defender, and would largely be pragmatic. If you compare his comments to a striker (i.e. Michael Owen or Robbie Fowler) they are largely more positive.
Nicol made a fair comment, but you are asking someone with a pragmatic perspective to give his opinion.
So it stands to reason that the more attacking player (Burley, was a midfielder) has a slightly more optimistic viewpoint .

Messi carried them in the first leg and Liverpool's loss was very bad luck. I still had hope because I knew barca could bring a poor performance, Liverpool a good one and then also a bit luck and Liverpool still had a chance.

Remember when Brendan Rodgers was in the group stage I think against Real Madrid away and needed some scoreline and instead of believing in his team dropped Gerrard to bench to concentrate on the league. That worked out well.

I know they'd say parking the bus is not dignified, but they learned the hard way and with Liverpool, they did Park the bus. They were only attacking on counter chances. Sure. We came back from 3-0 against a milan side with less talent than we have now and less minutes remaining than we do now. I think we could pull off the impossible in both competitions, but knowing our luck we’ll lose out on both. Regardless im so proud of what this club has turned into since i became a fan in 2011.
