- The arc thrower gets put to the test on solo helldive difficulty once again, it was once our beloved king of support weapons, is it still that?
Enjoy!

I love how easy you make this look. I finish your videos feeling all confident then die before finishing two objectives 😅 your killin it bro.
The arc thrower definitely feels stronger with each shot than before, not just because of the extra stagger but also because it feels like it deals more damage and charges slightly faster than before. I just wish they added a feature to toggle an "auto fire" mode so I didn't have to keep on pressing down and letting go over and over again.
Edit: observing just how good this works against bugs is making me wonder if it'll be good against automatons too. If it can stagger devastators that would be such a huge deal.
Edit 2: it can stunlock Hulks. GG.
Use a macro with software which is not blacklisted. You won't be banned
It was great against bots before the update. I haven’t tried it yet after the update.
As an arc main IMO it doesn't work well vs robots due to the lowered distance and bc you have to stand in front of them. During this time you will get a hailstorm of bullets hurled your way, as well as a series of rockets. All it takes is 1 headshot and you just die. I mean it works well vs each bot individually or in small groups, but once two dropships go down in 7+ you are screwed. Bugs on the other hand have no ranged attacks.
It did before the patch
It could already stagger Devastators on a good hit - it's not great when you hit the shields on striders and heavy devs but I've found it useful against everything else, especially clearing bot drops
I'm interested in how much stagger it has vs berserkers...
I'd say it is even more meta now because of it being able to stagger enemies
Really solid stagger tbh
But, it was able to anyway...?
Why would you need stagger on a weapon that one shots almost every enemy. The only enemy it doesn’t one shot, it can’t stagger.
It's not just staggers, it pushes some back, even a charger is pushed to the side sometimes.... or stopped... it's more ridiculous than ever, i don't even understand why people cry.
@@davejohnson8338 the charger is staggered.... you can slow it down, or even push it to the side sometimes... armored enemies sometimes are being pushed back to a ridiculous extent...
It Staggers Hulks... It was a niche pickup for me against bugs before but now I'm using it way more often for bots.
I am so glad you went over these updates , me and my buddy were getting wrecked on the automaton scientist Mission 2x
Always looking forward to your vids Lenda
I actually watch you, because you upload quick and much, keep doing it, great job
Love these videos! Lots of in-game analysis and tips!
Thats why I use the Blitzer. Might not have the best dps against bots, but against bugs, you have a weapon that has inf ammo and staggers. One shots hunters, 2 shots brood commanders, perfect when paired with light armor, basically makes you untouchable
I had my concerns about blitzer early on, but I switched to only using light armor, what a game changer. Powerful enough to bust something head on and think out things chasing you. The extra speed is the greatest buff you can give yourself AND use a shield on top of that.
I've had a pretty good time taking down devastators and hulks with the arc thrower post nerf, I just wish the piles of bodies could arc onto enemies behind them
@@JoeSmashrad good I'll try it later, I was a little salty right off that the range was decreased but if it is viable or better I'm fine. Does it also arc off of corpses? Would be a cool perk to have on armor or even a selectable one for a character to increase arc length or chaining chance.
What loadout u use with blitzer?
@@Pqqul I personally run blitzer with quasar cannon, orbital laser, and eagle airstrike for bot maps only. I typically hug cover around the front lines when peeking on close to medium range bots. It can chain stagger almost all enemies except hulks and tanks, which is what the cannon is for.
Don't stop making content man, have notifications on and loving it right now!!
love your vids, thanks. One thign about the arc thrower, it's an 'arc' thrower, it arcs to the nearest grounded object, with a bias toward organic. When it arcs to something like a rock next to you, you just need to aim away from the rock and it will arc to the enemy. Some say 'aim higher' which is mostly accurate, but it's a simple case of thinking what it will actually arc to easiest. Impressive simulation by the devs of electricity finding the shortest path to ground, tbh. Don't ask me to explain why it arcs to shriekers. ;)
10:45 All I needed to see for my concerns about the range. Arc Thrower got mad buffed this patch imo.
Agreed. 50 meters is a huge distance. I don't think people even realized how long its range was before because it was hard to get it to actually find its target at its maximum range before. The change is basically a slight rate of fire decrease in exchange for letting it stagger damn near everything. I definitely think it's stronger now than it was before.
I sometimes would hit stuff with arc from an elevated position that you'd normally be using a sniper scope for LMAO.
good looks, i was about to come in here hating on everyone that said the nerf wasnt that bad. im a casual, not trying to spend hours on a mission because i keep dying due to weak weapons
One of the main reason I used Arcs it had sooo much range
I have a feeling they didn't actually nerf it and we are in for a fixing
@takibo to give some numbers (I tested with macro). Old arc thrower had to charge for 775ms. New arc thrower has to charge for 900ms. can be charged with 875 but then it's inconsistent. You don't have to charge it fully. But you need to charge it 100ms more
Now that's 775ms on the half charge right?
@@YourLocalMedic the fun thing about all this is the stagger, it's ridiculously strong, you can stop chargers with it, if you hit them on the side, you push them to the side.... Armored enemy's can't come close, you push them back like insane... The range is not a problem with it... It kills chargers in 10-20sec like nothing, and they can't do shit, you animation lock them, and they don't do the crazy 180 and side movements anymore... It's overall better than it was if you bring with you something that can kill hunters fast if they come close...
@@YourLocalMedic there is no such thing as half charge. It was always working on every shot with same ms. Before the patch you had to charge every shot 775ms, now you have to charge every shot 900ms. First shot full charge is misconception caused by people using hands and not macro/script. With script all shots use same ms
I'm grateful for all your uploads m8. I don't have a machine that can play HD2 so your footage lets me live vicariously through you. lol
Watching this definitely made me feel good about my ability to sniff out the meta with games I’m passionate about. I literally do the exact same stratagems and all my buddies refuse to try it for some reason.
33:03 Watching you play the next 3 and a half minutes without picking up any more stims from a Resupply pod got me on the edge of my seat LOL
I like this nerf arc thrower more because of stagger. Of course range nerf and half charge shot nerf is a little inconvenient for some situations but not so bad.
The range is fine, but the half-charge nerf makes it practically unusable now to clearing swarms. Just sticking to my primary now and saving this slot for Quasar.
The issue you have where sometimes the arc thrower doesn't find a target (and thus doesn't register a hit) is mitigated by aiming _above_ your target instead of directly at them. The reason for this bug is because as you said, it often detects obstacles between you and your target (sometimes even if there is no obstacle actually present.) If you aim above your target, the arc will curve into its target from above, and prevent most issues with obstacle detection.
This also helps you get headshots against automatons, since the arc always aims for center mass, but the bots heads are _above_ their center. Aiming above them can help the arc hit their head.
Another great vid! If you’re not already, you should really look into building an outro thumbnail with a subscribe reminder, and remind people near the start of the video as well. Having such a high view, comment, and like count with so few subscribers is bonkers. You’re definitely deserving of 4x the sub count you’ve got now. :)
That actually looks really nice. Im updating right now. Gonna go see how it feels.
Shorter range but higher stagger to me is a good change that stagger must be good on the changer no clue if it will work on the bile titan
bro the way u talk, the things u talk about, u just keep me entertained from start to end, pls do some livestreaaaams
previously it was easy to keep insects at bay with the .6 second arc charge, the new stagger seems like it helps offset the charge nerf
The Slugger probably took a hit because it was a better "sniper" than the Diligence and the Counter-Sniper Diligence and punched through armor more reliably than the Liberator Penetrator and JAR-5 Dominator. It was a frigg'n pump action shotty that did the jobs of 2 gun types than those gun types could hope to ever do. In a sense it was OP, but it wasn't a master key of it will solve every problem. It's just that the Diligence and CS Diligence were so sub par DMR's and the Dom and Lib-Pen were so underwhelming that neither really felt worth taking. If you took one, you'd be hurting for that mission because of the lacking those guns had in every area. The Slugger bridged that and now it's been nerfed. Soooo they need to keep buffing both Diligences and the Lib-Pen and Dom to make them as desirable of choices to take as the Slugger was before. They've only just started those changes.
this makes a lot of sense to me.
Why would you take a 128 dmg sniper when you have a 250 dmg sniper shotgun which effectively never reloads ?
Still i think they should buff the other weapons rather than nerfing the slugger
Yeah slugger nerf hurts. I tried it out today and not being able to consistently stagger has removed its main purpose. Sad times.
Yeah I tried playing the snipers but they couldn't do their job reliably, it was so underwhelming. I dont even wanna start on the JAR-5 or lib-pen
What I always say. Make bad weapons fun/good and not good weapons bad
@@Jimov not staggering chainsaw guys is kinda stupid, i don't know why they went this hard.
I'm fine with not stunlocking brood commanders, but not these
your concern means a lot bro ✊
-former slugger user
I love the DMR and how it one shots and few shots almost everything except bigger monster or automons. my only hope is that they add burst to the dmr making it the new meta for low levels.
It seems like it spreads its arcs more reliably among the closest enemies to you when swarmed.
That was one huge weakness for me for the previous version. It worked great until you got swamped. Then it was useless. Often this was due to arcs going off into dead bugs and ending.
But now? And with the stagger?
I think it's much improved.

@@istealurskin9261?
@@istealurskin9261 he is right... It's ridiculously strong now... You literally stop chargers or anything armored with it... You push back armored bugs like crazy... You can even push a charger if you hit it from the side.... And it's not much slower than it was... It's like 100-150ms ... You can still shoot it faster than 1sec... And it kills a charger by itself in 15-20sec didn't messured it, but if you hit it right... It dies fast...
@@istealurskin9261 shut up terminid Charger you are just mad you get staggered everytime you want to charge an Arc user
@@UmbraWeiss Incorrect. I programmed macros to test this, before it shot at 750ms, so firing at 751ms or above was fine. Post nerf firing at 1000ms or less does not work; it must be above 1001ms or above. Also, a charger takes 6 headshots - so pre nerf was just a tad over 4.5 seconds to post nerf being just a tad over 6 seconds.
slugger enjoyer here, i use it all the time. it did not deserve the 30 dmg nerf, but stunlocking hulks to death was pretty stupid, and i believe it doesn't do that anymore.
It feels the same overall, i feel like ?
Also love your videos, they're fun, keep it up !
I wish they didn't nerf the stagger as hard as they did, though. Yeah, stunlocking devastators was a bit much, but the stagger is barely worth mentioning right now. It's still good, and I still like using it, but it would've been nice if they made you really have to focus that one single big target with a rapid fire for a stunlock, rather than removing the ability to stun them all together.
The Slugger was the only reliable weapon that could kind of deal with devastators without a lot of pain. Staggering hulks was not even worth mentioning as picking Slugger to kill those was pointless.
I really hope they get a proper backlash for nerfing things that are barely decent. They look good only because all the other options are worthless.
@@BlazingDarkness yea i just saw that it doesn't stagger chainsaw dudes anymore. that hurts the weapon too much
I'll still use it for bugs but not automatons
@@HengerR you kinda make a point, actually, a lot of the main weapons are straight up awful.
We got limited choice, that's between the scorcher, las-15 and breaker for good weapons and that's pretty much it now.
maybe the incendiary breaker ? i tried it and hated it so idk
@@mgiacmierhns8755Jar is now good, diligence is a menace on bots if you have good aim. Defender is still good. Punisher is good on bugs. Plasma is good in a team situation. Spray and pray is good against bugs. Liberator is okay. Liberator penetrator is good against bugs, okay on bots.
You have a few options.
I think the arc throwers targeting makes perfect sense as is, since it is electricity it wants to be grounded so its gonna take the shortest route down which means the corpse that's in front of what your targeting. it makes you have to play around the corpses that your making as you kill bugs or bots.
Keep it going bud. Great work.
I think it's intentional for the arc thrower to not work at very close distances, unless im completely wrong lol. I just remember hearing that its meant to be a medium range crowd control weapon.
Love your content, keep it up !
Also I have a question : you said a few times that the Quasar loadout (probably with shield, airstike and cluster) was now probably the best one. It is indeed really strong, and I can reliably solo 8 for now with it. appart from when I get the Bile Spewers variation, there are often 5 or 6 of them per breach, maybe more. And nothing in the loadout can really deal with them but the airstrike, which is still not a lot. How do you deal with them ?
I like the changes to the arc thrower but the -15 meter range can be felt. At least it won't go out of its way (or at least less often) to hit a teammate lol
im actually most curious about how arc thrower handles bile spewers, since that's the medium enemy i find trips people up the most, and since they're ranged the reduced range on arc might actually be a big deal. quasar cannon is kind of just a better railgun against chargers and titans now, but it can't rapidly clear out spewers like the autocannon
I'm pretty sure I killed a bile titan with 2-3 magazines of the Incendiary Breaker using the fire tik DMG.
Didn't have time to test this, looking forward to a video on it
If the arc thrower continued to target bodies but arced behind them I think that would be a cool solution that might be easier to implement
haha yeah that would be fine so they definetly will not doing it
At release patch it DID do this. but that allowed it to arc BACK to the one firing if you had 2 bodies on you (arc to one, arc to second, back to you), so.....
slugger nerf hurting really badly on automaton side.
what used to be a fistful of stagger is now fistful of disappointment.
solid slugs lacking the impact of one, they should send SEAF investigators to do an search on the munitions suppliers, there must be clanker affecionados amongst them..
Sickle and incendiary breaker would like a word against the bots.
Use the JAR, its always been good against bots but now is slugger 2.0
@@MagikarpPower aight I'll give it a go. hope the stagger values enough against devastators.
@@TheBlueraid if it cant stagger devastators and chainsaw men, what can it really even stagger?
@Takibo People were always massively overblowing the speed of partial charges. The first charge was always 1s. The fastest partial charge you could fire was 750ms. You could not fire faster than that. Confirmed by using macro software. Partial charges were at maximum 25% faster. People are ridiculously hyperbolic.
Exactly . But what can you expect? Ppl see nerf and they start crying and whining even when it’s very minimal
Your acting like thats still unnoticeable.
-25% charge is huge, that's a DPS increase of 33%
The Slugger was such a fun weapon. I don't like that nerf but the rest of the Update is pretty good. Some weapons still need more love
As a current Level 7 I'm here to learn... (45 minutes later) I have A LOT to learn.
Breaker incendiary should be your go to, especially now with the fire tick increase
saddest part of the slugger change is not opening canatainers anymore 😢
arc thrower is even better now the stagger is crazy
It’s going to struggle more against bots now. Kinda needed the range to deal with devastatirs. But use the shield and it will probably still work.
devastator btw
The range is still plenty good enough. I don't know if you ever properly tested it, but the arcs used to be HELLA long range. 50 meters is a huge distance, and 35 is around where you probably thought its range limit was _before._
And now you can stunlock devastators with it, while still killing them in 3 shots. It even stunlocks the heavy devastators, with the shields, and most notably can stunlock hulks!
Hey takibo been watching you for a while, can you do a stealth playthrough using a different set of light armor ???
Takibo id love to see you test out the new dominator! I’m away from home for the next few days so I have to wait to get my hands on it. How good is its stagger?? Does it feel good?
Would appreciate info from anybody
Haven’t unlocked the Arc Thrower because I’m only level 11 but I’ve found it in the wild and it still feels solid. It is versatile because you can kill swarms and also larger units with it. Also the 1s delay for a full charge on each shot made it consistent which is somehow kinda practical IMO.
I always fully charged the arc thrower anyway so not a big deal. The stagger increase means a buff so I’m cool with it.
Very odd they nerf a gun that barely anyone uses anymore. Every lobby is full of quasar canon. The charge and the distance was great impacted 😢
The quasar’s probably gonna get a unessessary nerf or “change” because of this. It felt like it was balanced enough, I don’t think it’s the best solo, especially when swarms appear on bug planets. But it’s perfectly balanced trade of power vs. speed.
Have you tried the incendiary breaker since the change its actually hella good now
Love the content! I was wondering if you live stream your games? If not already, it would be a nice addition! Keep the good work for democracy
Great video loved it 😆
You loved a 45 minute video that was just uploaded 2 minutes ago? Bot alert
@@drmiglyHenz why I put laughing emoji 🤦♂️
The quasar cannon I feel like is too slow for group play (unless another player has it and you travel together)
The breaker incindiary feels a lot better for crowd control now that fire tick damage got buffed as far as primary weapons go
Not only devastators, it stun locks HULKS
the funniest interaction i've seen while using the arc thrower myself against bugs is the bolts constantly pushing the brood mothers back with every hit till they leave the 35m range of the weapon..
Video with buffed fire breaker would be nice
The nerfs are honestly pretty minor compared to the stagger buff. Staggering berzerkers, heavy devestators, and even hulks makes it actually LEGITIMATELY better than it was before.
NGL I really liked the fast charge feature. It rewarded practice with the gun, arc thrower being inconsistent in general. My favorite weapon though, I always tried to have good positioning and engage as far as possible from anything. I'm really worried about the range nerf but I have not tried it yet. Imo they should have never touched it. I really enjoyed the way it was, it was essentially learning how to manage heat with lasers, a mechanic that rewards practice. On top of that it can't open containers now, and I don't have a grenade with me usually either.
@@SolidNitroxThe Problem is it was a bug and while intuitively it sounds reasonable to get a reward for learning a exploit, its that exact mentality that killed games before
@@little_lord_tam did they say it was a bug? I saw it as after building charge it had a greater difference of potential and easier to arc again, like the Tesla coil.
@@SolidNitrox It was a bug
@@little_lord_tam well it mirrors real world properties of the science behind it. God forbid anything works that way.
Now thar fire damage is increased is the Napalm Eagle a good choice?
What's up you legend.
Also I think the music play a big part of the late extraction stress.
taki how do you get your minimap like that? I've been going through my settings and I can't figure it out
The extra stagger makes it a superior support item. If you leave the need to do the dmg, the crowdcontrol is insane. The amount of players being chased from bersekers I saved from dying is crazy.
This why I bring stun grenades to stun crowds (except for titans now) and shut them down from getting close to you. Or cluster them up for bombs or eagles.
Long live the arch thrower
I've got three of the modules left. Three of the ones that take 10 super rare samples.
Question. How would you have dealt with the shrieker nests if you didn't have the EATs?
I wonder if muscle enhancement wouldn't be a better choice against bugs than stamina enhancement, since it makes you immune to bug poison slow
I didn’t even know you could half charge the arc thrower so i don’t even have to adapt to fully charging shots
Thanks Takibo! Play a round with me and my 2 squad mates!!!
I always assumed flamethrower was for bugs and arc for bots. I also feel like these changes and flame buffs just reinforce my belief.
LMAO, " Ahhhh the Shriekers detected me, thats a bit of a problem." Truer words have never been spoken.
I don’t think the targeting on the arc thrower is broken at all. That’s how electricity works. It goes to the nearest conductive item. I think it adds balance to using it. I hope they never make a one gun does it all! I enjoyed your video!
Pls try the Pyromancy build again after the insane 50%dmg Buffs
It’s funny that they didn’t nerf Blitzer at all, I’ve been having a great time Jumpjetting around with that think
How do you deal with hoards when you use the q cannon instead of the arc thrower
If fire damage per tick has increased, does that include the 500kg bomb fireball ?
I miss the "rapid fire" that I could do with it, but the stagger is nice. Staggering hulks is great
I wonder how much the arc nerf is a design decision versus code related. Maybe spamming it more than 1x/ second had an impact on performance that led to crashing. Just a thought.
i believe other arc weapons and stratagems also led to crashes so idk if spamming the arc thrower itself is the source of the crash.
How are you running and doing stratagems at the same time? I know a couple people who’s done it but I never figured out how to do it
Remap stratagems from wasd to arrow keys
Q Cannon definitely the best strat to run imo , it closes nest/holes , takes down spores and shreikers nest from range with ease . Not to mention 1/2 shotting chargers and even titans .
What your specs cause wow seeing u have over hundred of fps is crazy, on a RTX 3090 and only get around 90 fps at most.
The Blitzer is what needed tuning
I don't buy that it's "about the same". Brood Commanders were never an issue to begin with, so at least as far as bugs extra stagger doesn't matter. Neither does it really for what it does to Chargers. Instead it's clearly weaker against what it already struggled with - large number of small shit up close. Hunters in particular getting within your minimal range (I always considered it as a mechanic, not a bug), corpses obstructing chaining etc. You whip out breaker way more often than you'd have to do previously.
If only this gun had alternate firing modes. Would be pretty cool to have a continuous line of electricity tethered to a charger.
Overall, I quite like the rebalance. It doesn't just feel like a plain old nerf, but rather like a small rework.
i hate how its "skill gap" aka the right timing to fire faster was removed. i guess it was overtuned but fun.
Give it 2 firing modes: one for how it works now and one I'll call "unsafe mode"(real original). unsafe mode will work just like the old version but you can't hold the charge and if it reaches 100% charged you get electrocuted and stunned for a long time
22:35 I tried out the newly nerfed Slugger today on bots.
It still 1-hits Devestator heads. Didn't notice any stagger. (expected) But it no longer shoots the container doors off! 😭
I just swapped to the Dominator - Does basically the same thing as old Slugger xD
I know its a test with only the arc thrower, but if you pair it with a guard dog rover instead of the shield, you could've held back many of those hordes. The rover gets the little ones that you cant hit with the arc.
Have you tried the revolver vs bots? I've seen it one-shot most small bots, i dunno if that's a big change, but i'm curious what you think. Maybe try it out as a secondary in your next bot video?
That’s always been the case with anything against the smaller automaton enemy types.
Revolver wasn't buffed, it just had the tooltip updated to reflect what it's been doing this whole time.
@@AintNobodysBusiness correct.
Senator isn’t optimum against bots. I love using it but it’s a handicap because of the reload and despite its medium penetration it bounces on tank and cannon vents.
Hey takibo, me and my friends are struggling with the sample farm you suggested, especially with the spewers. We get so overwhelmed with the amount of bug breaches and even though we try to keep moving we always get tied down. If we move too fast we miss samples bc every POI also has chargers so we even struggle to clear those out before the breaches come in. I am level 27 and my friends are 16 ish, and since they dont have shields they get destroyed by the overwhelming spiters. Any tips are appriciated, i watched all your solo tips videos and tried to use the stratagems you used, but it really feels much much harder for us even though you make it look easy
go stun grenade and stun orbital, you can launch a stun grenade before going in and a stun orbital when you leave and that's an easy steal (stun grenade doesn't leaves a lingering slow while the orbital does)
then just run away forever, that's what i did anyway, and it worked well
@@mgiacmierhns8755 so kill nothing (or only small mobs) stun on entry and orbital stun when leaving?
Arc thrower is still king if you just simply don't feel like aiming. Cannon or EAT is probably more valuable in the hands of good players but sometimes mindlessly clicking hordes away is fun too.
A dev mentioned on discord today that some issues they are working on are arc thrower shots not registering, spear targeting difficulties, and Anti Material Rifle scope being off. So wait Democratically, Divers, positive change is coming!
This patch was a big W overall, imo. And a new free cape today too, yay!
I have to agree now. The arc is not killing chargers fast enough for me (especially when there is more than 1). making it difficult to clear the trash. I tested it with the thrower and the QC and things went much smoother with QC. The arc could/does work very well in a group but solo is more difficult since e you don’t have a teammate helping with charger or trash clear.
they changed the seaf shell colors, red: explosive, orange: high yield explosive, black: mininuke btw
The supposed "half charge" was 0.77 second so more like 3 quarters of a second
What are your top 3 armour sets?
I've seen the arc thrower break the shields on heavy devastators now.
To be honest I rather trade the stagger for the faster dpm cuz pre patch it wouldn't matter if you could stagger chargers since you could kill them before they came close while charging
it was damn near a 50% dps nerf, but that stagger is nice... maybe a small charge rate increase, like 5% and it prolly feels waay better
how do you run so far from shuttle landing and not get the shuttle aborting timeout...?
