As someone who's thinking of buying a used car, I value this video. As someone who's trying to hock his old beater, I hate this video.

Cool joke

Now that was funny. But absolutely, I would be doing the same thing. Cars are not cheap, not even used and you want to make sure you are getting what you are paying for.
😂😂
If I were the owner, I wouldn't mind spending this much time even if the deal doesnt work out.
Because you basically get a free car inspection, by the best technician you cam imagine!!
lol thast true
Or he can not tell the owner and just say he wont buy it
@@mr.velazquez3079 You have to remember that for a lot of people buying a used car might cost a large portion of all the money they have. I think it's fair to let them at least see if the car is junk first.
@@mr.velazquez3079 if you can't deal with someone not buying your car or inspecting it for a long time, then don't sell it. if i can't fully check out a car im interested in then i wont buy it, and even if i look over it for a few hours and decide there is too many problems, it's not fair for you to get upset at ME for "wasting your time". both of our time would of been wasted, not just yours.
It's the learning experience.
I respect what you do man, it takes balls to run your hands all over some random guys car seats.

+ChrisFix awesome :D
Seller himself said he was about to buy another car, so I bet he learned a lot by waiting and listening what to watch out for on used cars.
I can't understand people having a problem with a potential buyer taking time to correctly inspect..
if you don't want the hassle trade it in to a dealer
People here are complaining about 'if someone did this I'd drive away' . Small things can really add up, and if the seller isn't patient enough to answer questions or let you look over the vehicle then the buyer is the one that should drive away.
*Walk away.
+DoritosDewww 12345 *Run away
+Miguel Tejada Exactly. I dont know about you but I am not spending thousands of dollars on a car I know nothing about. In 30min you can find out so much info about a car and really know if the car is worth buying or not. People who dont want to do this will get stuck with a bad car one day and learn their lesson. There are tons of bad cars out there so it is inevitable!

you are definitely the most helpful CZcamsr I've ever watched. sometimes it seems like cars are incredibly complex and hard to understand, but you really break it down and make the whole process easy to follow along with. this makes the whole learning about cars easier and even fun to be apart of. thank you Chris!

I don't understand the people who want to sell a car and don't clean the carpet before they sell it!

$20??? It's free if you do it at home! Only takes 20 mins for a quick wash and vacuum inside!
+Liam Collister I think he was using it still as he was selling it but that is the least surprising thing you find when looking at used cars. One time I went to see a car and the cops drove by slowly and all of the sudden the car was not for sale and the "owner" wanted me to leave. I think the car was stolen. You see some crazy things lol!
did you not catch that on tape, cuz that would be some gold footage
@@chrisfix that sounds more like a bait car honestly XD
but then again stolen vehicles are a lucrative business. After all a cheap car stolen and flipped can be 2 or 3 grand in your pocket. Of course then again you can also take them to a chop shop for equal the money
If it smells funky check under everything and especially behind/ under the rear seats. I found Fruit Loops and rotten baby formula in one of the cars I bought. It took me about 6 months to figure it out and then it took me 2 days to clean the entire interior.
+1984Porthos Ewwww, glad you figured it out!
+ChrisFix ALso buying a car off Ebay is less sketchy than Craigslist or side of the road. If you use Paypal and you get to the car and it is not exactly what was sold (cleanliness, damage not revealed, or anything like that) Ebay and Paypal will refund you money as long as you file within the allotted time which I think is like 7 to 30 days.

Very informative for someone who does not want problems with a used cars down the line
Bring a music CD with you... Make sure the CD player plays..... Bring your IPod cord with you, make sure that plays.... if applicable...
Otherwise, I agree 100%.....
If you find something, it's not necessarily a dealbreaker, but it's definitely something you're going to reflect in your offer.... If it needs brakes all the way around, and you're not Chris Fix, that could get expensive, to have a shop put pads & rotors all the way around it....
Reflect it in your offer.... If the seller doesn't like it, be polite, thank him for his time, walk away.....
You are ALWAYS 100% ready to walk at any moment....
+Patrick Morrissey That is a good idea! Great tips Patrick!
+ChrisFix Yeah, I bought a car once... turned out the CD player didn't work.... Costs a lot, to buy a new one.... Maybe not so much anymore, but it did back then.... And if the car has factory nav, you're not all excited to pull that head unit, and lose your nav. So yeah, check that before you buy...
+Patrick Morrissey Exactly and even if it doesnt cost a lot. Now you have to spend time to fix something that doesnt work and you payed for one that did work!
Patrick Morrissey brakes and rotors are so easy to change though. You could save yourself $400+ on brakes and rotors. And you’ll be able to buy the performance pads and rotors because you saved so much. The only annoying thing is you have to jack each axel up and take each tire off unless you have two floor jacks and hopefully for safety 4 jack stands. But chrisfix has a lot of diy stuff. I watched his videos for brakes and I did it myself with no problems at all. I was quoted between $380-$650 for brakes. Not even rotors. And I save $400-600.
The worn area on the left side of the driver's seat is fairly common. It is usually caused by part of your body(belt/waistband) rubbing that area as you get in/out of the seat(More evident with "larger" people). The seat belt usually does not rub that area when you sit in the seat to drive. Sit there and try it out. :-) I've changed so many leaky A/C evaporators over the years. Some are really a PITA to get out. Great video!
CHECK FOR MOLD:
When checking the interior, check for mold, dampness, musty odors. If the interior has been cleaned and you can't see any mold on the seats, check the seat backs, underside, back seats, pull the back seats up if it's an suv/van, and don't forget to check the seat belts, pull them out as far as possible to see if they are moldy or if they were cleaned.
Chris, these are great tips!
Quick Tip: inspect for pubes and human slime. Any excessive amount of either of those means you should stay away.
hahahahhaahhhaa good one.

haha, better safe than sorry!
Hey Chris, I really like all the things you ran through. I wish I saw this before I bought my car because I ended up (and still having to end up) spending a lot of money to get it to where it needs to be. One thing I think you should add your check list is to check both interior and exterior fuse boxes. You don't want to buy a car where the fuse box is melting fuses... like I did...
how does one check for this? Do you see a bunch of blackened/burnt/melted connections on the panel?
Yup exactly, in my case it was a bunch of melted/burnt connections. Had to end up changing the whole fuse box
@@moonlightsurrender Damn, that sucks. Thanks for the heads up though! Much appreciated
@@moonlightsurrender That sucks how much did that end up costing and what car did you buy with how many miles?
Chris your inspection videos are amazing and inspiring brother THANK YOU so much. I’m trying to buy a used vehicle and I was scared to death of falling into a lemon before watching your videos - Now I do feel more confident to find myself a good used car
there are SO MANY different things to remember to check! :o
When testing the speakers for crackling also be sure to adjust the balance on the speakers. Move the balance to the front, back, and sides to test each speaker is working properly. This test has saved me twice on used cars. I enjoy jamming out so the speakers working or being damaged can be a deal breaker.
i might be in love with this man.
Man. I have paid hundreds of dollars trying to learn how to flip cars. But your free content here is the best info hands down. Thanks dude. Your negotiating vid made it all click for me.
Mister, these videos are great. Clear, concise and to the point. I'm heading out to buy a used car in a couple of days and am going to watch your series again. Your help has been really useful. Thank you for taking the time to produce these videos. You're helping others big time.
Thanks for all these videos! You’re like the first person to thoroughly explain how to exam a car! Plus you’re straight to the point. Now I’m confident when I go on my search tomorrow.
As a person who knows absolutely nothing about cars, your videos are very helpful. Thank you!
I must say this is the most useful and well produced channel I've come across with in a while. Congrats Chris!
Dude I really like your videos. Great content, well delivered (no annoying voice lol). Subscribed!
Thanks and welcome aboard!
That is the best thing ever. Calm and speaking in a normal tone! :D
This is a huge one and Chris I hope you reply so everyone can see this. Hose down the car and check the trunk and the engine bay and if there is water in there there was a rear end or some type of crash
Or there's just rust holes or the trunk latch is old so stopped holding as right..
This is a good ass video! I’m a first time buyer and a single female that doesn’t know much about cars and dang I’m so intimidated and had no idea how detailed you need to be to make sure that you don’t throw your money a way!!!! Thank you so much for your videos 😁
worth the time to watch all the parts of this series if you are planning on buying a used car - i even find speeding up the playback speed saves time but can still follow no problem
I remember looking at an S2000 that supposedly had 40,000km on it. There's no doubt the odometer was rolled back. Steering wheel was worn out, switches were so worn out that the dye faded and the seats were brown and the bolsters were worn.
Guy had it for $24K, we walked away then he rang and offered $19K and we said no thanks.
my friend has had his oldsmobile for probably 15 years and judging by the looks you would think it had 200k but it only has 56k. He uses it every day but doesnt drive far
punker4Real you mean 13 years old?
40000 km in the city is completely different of 40000 km in the highway. I ve seen 40000km carswith completely torn insides, and somes in pristine condition. Same for pedals and steering weels. I had a peugeot where the steering wheel started peelong of at 20k. It is difficult to evaluate this stuff.
A great many friends of mine and including myself have owned s2000s for a long time. Some of us for over a decade. I have never seen the seats turn brown and the steering wheels almost never fade. I’ve never so much had the check engine light turn on in mine and it’s been 7 years now. Also the car sees a fair amount of track use which is basically like putting 6-12 months of commuting rounded up in one day. Greatest little car ever. Buy one and cherish it.
u are actually really helpful!! even though i am 13, i help my father do business in used cars..AS he is not thaT educated....btw, who is watching in 2019??!

Oh shit, that was meatloaf. One of my favorite songs by them. "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" 6:55
Frank has some damn good taste!
Your knowledge is AWESOME bro! I am impressed! learnt a lot from your videos....
Just one thing..... in this exterior inspection video from 12:12 to 12:55 you missed one thing (I'm not an expert as you) that is, the door rubber seal or gasket. If you pull it down/out you get to see a factory seal where two metal sheets are spot welded together. And if the seal isn't perfect, the car might have been through any accident...
Thanks you so much for this series @Chris Fix. I grew up in London and am moving to the US with my fiancee. I never had a need for my own car due to the fact that there was always public transport, but I'll definitely need one in AZ where I'm moving. Hands down the best DIY automotive channel. You saved me a shit load of money doing things myself. Granted I had to buy a lot of equipment but well worth it long term if I were to buy my next car. ☺️
I've sold a car once where the guy didn't even turn it on or sit in it, he looked at it and handed me cash. I'd hate to have Chris show up. Which means you're doing a great job!
If its an older car, stop obsessing over the paint or little scratches. Since your buying an older car most likely for your daily driver, Worry more about the engine.
Yes so true.
+Michael Hinchey Talking to yourself are you? lol
+Mozzie guess someone deleted their comment
+Michael Hinchey paint and scratches can indicate if a car has been wrecked by the previous owner. I mean, it's okay to ignore little bumps and some scratches if it's going to be a daily driver, but if it was part of an accident, there may be some more serious problems to deal with and it may not be worth it.
+Michigan Dashcam Hence why I said an older use car. I mean older like 10 plus years. Its gonna have dings on it.
Excellent video, I would add just a couple things. If you can look under the car front to back in a safe manner it can reveal hidden damage. Also if it has the owners manual and the cigarette lighter works that is usually a good sign when the rest of the car checks out. It is best to check out a car when it is stone cold. That way you can,1) look at the coolant(usually) 2, check for cold start issues 3) listen for piston slap or lifters. If the owner meets you at the local mini mart, be wary. Observe and listen to them and go with your gut instinct. Please take a friend.
Thanks for the tips.
This might be the most honest, comprehensive and helpful video series on buying used cars.
Thx!
This has been the most informative in the series. Thanks Chris!
Also, it's a good idea to grab the interior panels and rattle them to see if they are loose find broken mounts. Great video!

David G "It never happened to me, one guy in one place, therefore it is impossible for it to happen."
Every make and model ever built wears out and can be abused. People are very capable and willing to lie, especially if money is involved. They also may not be the original owner. They may have owned it for all of two weeks, and bought it with the intention of selling it to someone else. They may have inherited it, or were given it.
Take a look at my own comment I made yesterday and see what can go wrong when you don't know what to look for.

Chris, I open all doors and try to lift each door with my Index finger. If I can lift any of the doors, that tells me that that particular hinge is shot.
Thank you soooo much for the checklist. Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Liked, subscribed, downloaded, all that jazz. Good work!
Chris is really thorough and methodical, wish I had him along in the past, could have avoided lot of hardship. Just one thing I got to say, tire alignment is like tracking in or out of wheels, but what he is talking about when rear wheel is tilted in at the top is camber not alignment.
Cup holders. Check your cup holders, I bought a vehicle and I can't get a large (american size) cup from McDonald's to fit when I go into first gear.
My wife had an Audi A4 and the cup holders consisted of little half inch tabs between the seats and wouldn't hold anything for more than a few seconds. Crazy for a 41,000 dollar car !!!
Yeah, the BMW 2007 and later have terrible cup holder designs. Sticks into the passenger seat area and often get stuck closed. Plus only hold teensie drinks. Damn euro weenies
nowdays you can buy on amazon a cup holder in the pit of doom for a few bucks

Nice job with the video series. Alot of very useful and important info is provided here. It's not easy to get that all done effectively in a fair amount of time. Your lists are an awsome idea to help shoppers NOT make a bad purchase. Sharing that knowledge is an excellent way to use the internet. It seems some people are not mature enough to appreciate your efforts as much as a person with a basic education does. Unfortunately those individuals are not likely to bother reading this since many of the words I used contain more than five letters. But who knows maybe if they continue to view informative videos such as yours and attend school they will one day become useful members of society. Keep up the good work.
+Shannon Kuechenmeister thanks a lot and I am glad the series was helpful!
Just to much invaluable car buying information that will hopefully save you lots of money in the end. Thanks Chris Great Work!
I always learn something by watching your videos, I am surprise to see in many of them so many thumbs down, the only thing I can think of why is that. I can it think of any other reason that they are jealous. I personally thank you for being very meticulous in the way you do your videos. That help us a lot to many of us. I will keep watching your videos, I like that you go right to the point, never show your face, that tell me that the video is not about you, is about what you want to teach, and that tell me that you are a good humble, modest human being. I pray for you and as God to bless you and all your love ones. Sincerely from my heart. E

Awesome! Now you can be confident now matter what car you buy!
Absolutely!
i never learned enough in my engineering college than i learnt in your vids !
When looking it the trunk I always like to pull down the carpet trim on the sides to inspect the shock towers/inner fenders. Also look along the seams where the panels meet. This area is a prime location for rust to develop. Especially true for cars in the salt belt.
Your video is super detailed and helpful. Can't believe the amount of work you put into this. The quality of your video is outstanding.
Thanks Tony!
FANTASTIC video! thank you sir!
GOOD GOD!!!! I love watching all his videos!!!!
Thanks Tim!
